I felt sick. Sure, it was impossible due to my quirk but at the moment my body didn't know that. I was currently standing outside of class 1-A sweating up a storm and feeling like I was going to throw up. Why did it feel so hot all of a sudden? Damn it, it's thanks to that text earlier that I'm feeling like this.
Flashback to earlier that morning...
My phone buzzed in my pocket as I was waiting for the train. I pulled it from my pocket and checked my texts.
(The way I formatted the texting is based on images so for example Bubbles would be Uraraka.)
[Bubbles] Good morning, Shimura-kun! :D
[First Aid] Uraraka-chan?
[Bubbles] Yeah!
[First Aid] Oh. Then good morning.
[Bubbles] You don't sound too excited to hear from me...
[First Aid] That's not it! You've just never texted me before.
[Bubbles] I know. I'm just joking with you. :P
[Bubbles] But I didn't text you to tease you. I wanted to ask you something?
What does she want to ask about? Maybe she wants to ask me about Midoriya? They seem close. Wait, then why would she ask me? I have no idea what she could want.
The train came to a stop and started walking from the station to Yuuei. I scratched the back of my neck. I really couldn't think of what she could want to talk about.
[First Aid] Shoot away.
[Bubbles] Never mind.
I audibly groaned, gaining me a few glances from the people exiting the station with me. Geez, I couldn't ever get girls to be straight forward with me.
[First Aid] You've got me curious now. If you don't tell me now, I'll just ask you at school and you'll have to tell me in front of Iida and Midoriya.
She didn't respond right away, probably trying to weigh out if I would bring up the subject or not. I was totally bluffing of course. It was probably something embarrassing if she was hesitant to talk about it. I would never bring up something embarrassing in front of her friends.
[Bubbles] Are you doing anything this weekend?
I stopped walking, looked up at the sky, then I looked back down at my phone to see if what I read was really there. I saw that I was not hallucinating and yelled at the top of my lungs, startling a couple students passing me in the process. "Huh?!"
I clamped my hand over my mouth and started to mumble to myself. "A cute girl is asking me what I'm doing this weekend. Where is she going with this? She's not asking me on a d-date is she?"
[First Aid] I'm free this weekend. Why are you asking?
[Bubbles] Well... if you want to. Would you like to meet up this weekend?
This isn't happening. What the hell? I'm being asked out by a cute girl. I must be dreaming. Someone pinch me.
"Pinch."
I felt a pinch on my shoulder, jumped up, and nearly dropped my phone. "Jesus Christ!" I yelled as I turned to see Denki's grinning face.
"You're so jumpy, it's not healthy."
I punched him in the shoulder. "I'm not jumpy. I'm extremely sensitive to my surroundings."
He rubbed his shoulder and scoffed. "Whatever dude. You were looking at your phone with some dumb look on your face." His face broke into a sadistic grin. "Whatcha looking at?"
My face warmed and I shoved my phone back in my pocket. "Nothing. Nope. Nothing."
He reached for my pocket and I grabbed his wrist. "You reach into my pocket and I'll kill you." I threatened.
He put his hands up in the air and stepped back. "Is it something to do with a girl?" He questioned.
I crossed my arms and started walking. "It's none of your business." I said, while putting on a nonchalant face.
He jogged to catch up with me and grinned knowingly. "Yep, it's definitely a girl. It's Yamazaki right?"
"Huh?" I looked at him in confusion. "What are you talking about?"
I heard him mumble something under his breath. Something about being dense.
"What?" I asked.
He waved his hand dismissively. "Nothing." We walked in silence for a minute until he spoke up again. "So definitely not Yamazaki, right?"
I glared at him. "I'm not telling you, so you might as well give up."
"Man, you're such a buzzkill. I guess I'll just have to ask Toru or Ashido. They're good at digging things up."
I gave an indifferent shrug. "Whatever. As long as I'm not telling you I'm fine with it."
I stealthily pulled my phone out and replied to Uraraka.
[First Aid] Sure. If you want just give me the details after school.
[Bubbles] Okay great! :D
I glanced beside me to see if Kaminari saw me. When I saw his attention was fully on his own phone I put my phone back in my pocket and smiled. I was meeting up with a cute girl this weekend. What were the chances of that ever happening before I came to Yuuei?
The chances were zero at my old middle school. I had grown up with all of them and they knew what all of my classmates at Yuuei didn't. I was orphaned at seven years old and forced to live in a run down orphanage for most of my childhood.
I had no more family and the other kids thought I was strange because of it. They treated me like I was contaminated with some rare disease. Especially after I started fighting the monkeys nearly every day. They would always pick on the kids with the weakest quirks or kids that were grades below them.
One day, I got sick of it and I attacked them. They beat me to a pulp and left me on the playground, broken and defeated. Even so, after that day if I ever saw them pick on another kid, I immediately ran in and tried to stop it.
At first, I went easy on them because I thought maybe they had family trouble and needed to let out their frustration. Then one day I learned that their family lives were perfect. They had mothers who loved them. They had fathers to provide for them. They had siblings to play with them. And I had nothing.
I would always ask myself. Why? Why do they live to hurt others, even when they have everything? I never found the answer to that question and I'm still searching for it. The reason why evil exists even when everyone has such unique powers. The reason that an orphaned kid is treated like dirt his entire life. I'll find the answer and fix it. No matter what.
"Hey man, you okay?" Kaminari asked and I turned to him, a concerned look was on his face.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just sleepy I guess."
He didn't look convinced but he didn't bring it back up. He looked at his phone and put it back in his pocket. "I've gotta get to class early to finish homework because I fell asleep while doing it last night. You okay walking by yourself?"
"Jeez mom, I'm fifteen years old I think I can walk to school by myself." I replied, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
"I'm just worried about my little boy." He made a voice like an older lady.
I shook my head and laughed. "You need therapy."
"For your information, I've already had therapy and it didn't work." He ran ahead and waved goodbye.
"Is it me or should you not be bragging about that!" I yelled after him.
Flashback over...
And that's how I ended up outside of the classroom feeling like I was sick. How is Uraraka going to act if she's behind the door? Will she come up and try to talk to me? I don't think my brain could handle it.
Don't psych yourself out. You've got this. Just walk in like it's a normal school day.
I opened the door. "Good morning." I said as I walked in. I noticed that everyone was already here and Aizawa was standing behind his podium with a disinterested look on his face.
"Oh, Shimura. It's nice for you to finally join us." A glint passed through his eye. Why was everything Aizawa did terrifying in the most covert way? "I do hope you have a good reason for being late."
I racked my brain trying to find a good excuse until I remembered that there were multiple reporters at the gate. I didn't quite catch what they were there for because I was inside of my own head. With what information I had, I concocted a lie. "There were a ton of reporters at the front gate. I had to push through them to get into the school grounds."
Aizawa shrugged and pointed towards my empty desk. "Sit down and pay attention. I'll excuse your tardiness this time due to the media." He said media like he wanted to say a less flattering word to describe them. "Please refrain from being late again."
"Yes, sir." I bowed before heading to my seat.
I sat down and Kaminari turned to me with his trademark mischievous grin. "Wow Shimura, coming into class so late and getting away with it. Never pegged you as a delinquent. Maybe that's why the girls like you so much."
"Kaminari! Stop talking and pay attention!" Aizawa threatened from the front of the classroom.
"Sorry!"
Snickers could be heard around the room before all attention was focused on Aizawa.
"You're going to be choosing a class representative today." Aizawa said without enthusiasm.
"A normal school activity!" Everyone yelled out.
Multiple people started to saying that they wanted to be class president before Iida stood up and spoke. "The class rep should be chosen from popular vote, not by people yelling that they want to be the rep."
"However you choose is fine with me. As long as you get it done. I'm going to take a nap now." Aizawa said as he climbed into his sleeping bag.
Kaminari turned around and grinned at me. "Can I count on your vote, Shimura?"
I started to laugh. "Yeaaaahhhh... no. Never in a million years."
"Geez, my own apprentice doesn't want to vote for me."
"Don't take it personally Kaminari. It's just I care about the stability and safety of our class."
I looked over to Ami and she didn't look particularly excited for the elections. I couldn't say I was looking to them either, it sounded like a tough job if Aizawa was going to be the one dealing out the work. I decided to take a pass and vote for someone else. Midoriya seemed like a good choice, he struck me as the responsible type so I voted for him.
When the poll came in Midoriya had the most votes, with Yaoyorozu in second. Bakugo stood up and yelled at the class when he realized Midoriya was the rep. "Okay fuck heads! Which of you voted for him?!"
I raised my hand and smirked. "I did. Do you have a problem with it, Bakugo?"
Bakugo grumbled something about killing before slumping back into his desk. I guess he didn't feel like fighting today. It suited me fine I didn't feel like dealing with him anyway.
After class I spent lunch talking with Kaminari and Ami. His obsession with girls aside, he was a pretty cool guy to hang around with. We were in the middle of our lunch when a voice came over the speaker announcing that their was an emergency and to evacuate the building immediately.
Students started to panic and caused a traffic jam in the hallway. I looked out of the window and saw that it was only the media outside. Geez, there was a fine line between getting a story and trespassing. At least this made my lie even more viable. I looked to Ami who had gotten pressed up against me due to the amount of people in the small space. "Its just the media, so don't panic like the rest of them." I said in her ear.
She nodded and said something but I couldn't hear her over the crowd. Suddenly Iida soared over the crowd and landed above the exit sign. Everyone's attention came to him at once and he yelled into the crowd. "Everyone please calm down! It is just the media! We are not in any danger!"
I had to admit that it was a pretty cool way to get the attention of everyone. Everyone else in the class agreed with me and we decided (since Midoriya wanted him to be class rep anyway) to make him class rep. After we officially decided on Iida as our class rep, Aizawa announced that we would be participating in a rescue exercise and we needed to either put on our gym uniforms or put on our hero costumes.
Five minutes later we were on a bus riding to where the exercise was going to take place. I was wearing my gym uniform due to the fact that my costume restricted my movement too much. I really needed to head to the support department to see if my costume could be altered. Maybe I'd ask for lighter armor plating. I still needed to ask for a real katana. Running around with a wooden one was sort of embarrassing to my image.
Due to the seating arrangement, I wound up sitting next to nobody I knew, while Kaminari and Ami wound up on the other side of the bus. There would be no way to talk to them unless I yelled across the bus and I'm not the rambunctious type. I settled for sitting there and listening to the conversation of the people around me. Most of them were silent types, but there was a couple of students who were talking near me.
"I'm so excited!" Toru gushed and from the look of her hands, (which was the one of the only things you could see since she was wearing gloves and boots) she was moving around a lot. Much to the discomfort of Ojiro who was the color of a ripe tomato. I understood from what I could gather about Toru's quirk it was only viable when she was naked so he was sitting beside a completely nude girl.
I heard someone murmuring beside me and I turned to see Mineta glaring at Ojiro. I hadn't personally talked to Mineta but from what I heard from Kaminari he was a super pervert. From what I was seeing, he could explode at any moment and either attack Ojiro or sexually assault Toru. Neither of which, was something I wanted to happen.
I tapped him on the shoulder. "Mineta."
He pried his eyes off of the scene in front of him and turned to me. "Eh? Oh, it's Shimura. Kaminari told me you would come to talk to me soon."
I don't like where this is headed.
He motioned for me to come closer and whispered into my ear. "He said you might want Yamazaki's measurements."
"How did you even get those? I know she didn't straight up tell them to you. That's super shady!"
Apparently that offended him. "You don't have to be that rude! I know I'm not exactly a model but you could tone that down a notch!"
"All right. All right. Don't get your panties in a bunch. I was just being honest."
He crossed his arms. "Honesty's for plebs. Now do you want the measurements or not."
I shook my head. "Tell me how you got them first."
"What are you? Some sort of boner police?"
"Are you some sort of boner enthusiast? Whatever. Just tell me how you got them and I'll drop it."
"Nope."
"Why not?"
"It's called business. If I tell you how to get the measurements and you get them on your own, the worth of my intel goes down." He said this like he was some sort of economic genius.
"Stop talking like you have a legit product. You aren't even asking for money." Suddenly my brain caught up with my mouth and I facepalmed. "Why am I arguing with you over something I don't even want?"
"I think you actually want them. Come on, you hang around her all the time. Tell me that you're not the least bit curious."
Why did this purple freak suddenly seem very persuasive? Maybe I was slightly interested but my image of being a gentleman kept me from admitting it.
"Nope, not at all." I lied.
"Then our conversation is over." He said before going back to staring at Toru. Which was curious in and of itself.
Note to self- Stay away from Mineta. He's super shady.
We arrived at a domed structure and got off the bus. The dome was gigantic when you were standing at the base of it. It was easily the largest structure I'd ever seen in my lifetime.
A hero in a suit almost like an astronaut's came out of the building to greet us. "Greetings, Class 1-A!"
"It's Thirteen!" I heard Uraraka say before a couple other students started to talk about Thirteen. I honestly had no idea who Thirteen was. I was more into the villain fighting heroes. Apparently he was one of the heroes who rescued people from natural disasters, cave ins, and stuff of that nature. No wonder I didn't hear about Thirteen.
I wonder what his quirk is. It has to be pretty good to be able to deal with natural disasters.
"Come on in students!" Thirteen waved us forward and we walked through the doors. "Welcome to USJ!"
At that moment, I said what we were all thinking. "Universal Studios Japan?"
Thirteen chuckled. "We need to change the name. Everyone who comes here nowadays always thinks that." Thirteen shook their head. "But we're getting sidetracked. First things first, my quirk is Black Hole. It can suck anything in and destroys it. The nature of my quirk is volatile and dangerous but I use it to rescue people. That's what you'll be learning today. How to better control your quirk to rescue people."
Thirteen clapped their hands. "Okay now to separate you in grou-"
Thirteen stopped talking and I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. A purple mist started to appear in the center of USJ and multiple people started to appear out of the mist. There was only one thing that these people could be.
"Villains!" Thirteen said before turning to Aizawa. "Is All Might not here?"
"He got caught up doing something. That man sure does slack on his work. I guess we'll have to handle this on our own." Aizawa pulled his goggles over his eyes. "Thirteen, protect the students. I'll go and take out those villains."
"Understood. Everyone stay behind me!" Thirteen ordered.
"Aizawa-Sensei!" Midoriya yelled. "Your specialty is one on one battles where you have the surprise advantage. You can't take on that many villains!"
"Midoriya." Aizawa pulled a bit of his scarf loose. "A good hero isn't only good at one specific thing. He always has an ace up his sleeve." With that, Aizawa threw himself towards the villains and started to fight them.
"Which of you is the fastest?" Thirteen asked.
Everyone pointed to Iida and he stepped forward. "I am."
"Good. I need you to run to Yuuei and get as many pro heroes as you can."
A chilling laugh suddenly cut through the air followed by a deep voice. "Sorry, but I can't allow you to do that."
The purple mist pooled behind us and formed into a figure with yellow eyes. "Our plan cannot allow you to escape. Unfortunately, none of you will be allowed to leave here until we complete our objective."
"And what is that objective?" Thirteen asked.
"The destruction of your precious pillar of hope. We will kill your beloved All Might."
I looked to my side and saw Bakugo and Kirishima. We looked at eachother and in that moment we made a mental agreement.
"As if we'd let you get away with that!" I yelled as I charged the figure with Bakugo and Kirishima. My fist went through the figure and the mist started to cover me. I saw a glimpse of metal before the mist enveloped me.
When the mist cleared, I was in a ruined building on my back. The room seemed to spin even though I was laying on the ground. I stayed there trying to get ahold of myself in my woozy state. The teleport had almost made me lose my lunch.
I suddenly heard the clink of metal on stone as a knife imbedded in the concrete beside me. My eyes widened and I scrambled out of the way of my attacker. A knife versus my fists I didn't like my odds so I looked at my surroundings.
Bakugo was currently blowing villains away with explosions while Kirishima was karate chopping them with his hardened limbs. I didn't have any time to observe since a knife was currently being pointed at me. I scanned the ground and found a piece of rubble that would fit in the palm of my hand.
I backpedaled to avoid the knife and grabbed the piece of rubble. I wound my arm back as my quirk started to course adrenaline through my arm. I threw the piece of rubble at breakneck speed and it hit the villain in the chest. The villain flew backward and crashed into the wall, the impact knocking him out cold.
Another villain grabbed me from behind and put me in a head lock. His arm started to push on my windpipe. I started to panic as the air started to leave my lungs and I tried to pry the villain's arm off my throat. I was unable to move his arm and his grip tightened as I struggled. Without any other options, I took my elbow and thrust it backwards into his stomach.
He groaned as let go of me just enough to where I could slip out of his grasp. Once I was out of his grasp, I ran towards the wall and kicked off of it. He had unwisely ran after me. As I sailed through the air towards him, his eyes widened as my fist came down and crashed into his nose. He reeled back grabbing his bleeding nose, his eyes a painting of anger.
I channeled my quirk as he threw a punch at me. I caught his fist, brought him closer, and started to knee him in his chest. When I finished kneeing him in the chest, he looked up at me with fear in his eyes.
"What kinda kid are you?" He asked.
"The kind that has a vendetta against villains like you who like to hurt the weak." I wound my fist back.
"Say hi to the inmates at the prison." I said before I drilled him in the face with my fist. He went limp and fell to the ground unconscious.
With my fight over, I turned to see how Bakugo and Kirishima were doing. Bakugo was standing over about seven villains, all of which were smoking from his explosions. While Kirishima, had taken out five villains that were all unconscious on the floor. Bakugo kicked one of them and growled. "These guys weren't too tough right. If I had to guess, these guys are just a distraction from that guy in the center."
"We should head back to where the rest of the class is." Kirishima said.
"Pssh, fuck that! Let's go and cut the head off the snake. If we take out that mist guy, they'll be at a disadvantage. You two with me?"
I nodded. "It'd be dangerous for us to split up, so let's try to stay in a group, Bakugo." I said.
Bakugo's eye started to twitch. "You trying to pick a fight? I'll kill you!"
"Guys, we don't have time for this! We need to get going!" Kirishima yelled as he pointed out of the window of the ruined building.
Bakugo and I both ran to the window. We watched as Aizawa came closer to the main villain. The villain ended up grabbing Aizawa's elbow and Aizawa jumped back, his arm now limp at his side. Suddenly a monstrous purple villain ran forward and started to slam Aizawa's head into the ground.
"We need to go now!" I yelled as I headed for the exit to the building.
We got down to the plaza as Kurogiri teleported back to the villain covered in hands. We eavesdropped on their conversation. "Tomura Shigaraki. I have defeated Thirteen but one of the students have escaped."
Shigaraki started to scratch his neck and groaned. "Any minute there's going to be pro heroes swarming all over this place. Maybe we should retreat before-"
He turned towards the flood zone and chuckled. "Since we can't get the symbol of peace himself. How about we knock his pride down a notch by taking out his students?"
Shigaraki suddenly lept towards the other side and grabbed at Asui's face. At the last second, Aizawa activated his quirk and rescued Asui from the villain's quirk. The purple villain quickly slammed Aizawa's head back into the ground, knocking him unconscious. Then all I could see was a purple blur as the large villain put himself inbetween the villain covered in hands and Midoriya's fist.
The villain absorbed Midoriya's punch and suddenly a loud bang was heard from the entrance of USJ. A tall figure walked trough the door. "Fear not! For I am here!" All Might yelled before plowing through a group of villains.
He rescued Aizawa, Asui, Midoriya, and Mineta before the villains could do anything. Suddenly All Might appeared in front of the purple villain with his fists raised. They started to trade punches but it seemed as though the purple villain wasn't effected by All Might's punches. All Might realized this and tried to suplex the purple villain before Kurogiri intervened. Kurogiri opened a portal and the purple villain started to squeeze All Might, causing him to yell.
Shigaraki chuckled. "Nomu was never going to be the one to defeat you, All Might. He was just the binder to keep you in place for Kurogiri. Nomu will pull you into the portal and Kurogiri will close it. Ending your life in two pieces."
"I'm sick of this shit." Bakugo grumbled before blasting onto the plaza and subduing Kurogiri.
At the same time Todoroki froze half of Nomu and All Might manages to slip out of his grip.
As all of this was taking place, Kirishima and I attacked Shigaraki but he dodged out of the way.
"Don't try any funny business." Bakugo growled at Kurogiri.
"Nomu! Save Kurogiri! He's our gateway out of here!" Shigaraki ordered.
Nomu's arm shattered as he got off of the ground but it regenerated in seconds. Nomu rushed towards Bakugo in a blur and at the last moment All Might threw Bakugo to the side and took the punch. In the chaos, Kurogiri managed to get away and return to Shigaraki's side.
"You realize it don't you?" Shigaraki started. "Violence is what heroes and villains use to protect their comrades. Your 'Symbol of Peace' is nothing more than an oppressive form of violence."
"That's rubbish!" All Might yelled before he engaged Nomu in a fist fight.
A yellow and purple blur was all I could see as we heard All Might yell at the top of his lungs. After minutes of punches, All Might sent Nomu flying through the glass dome of USJ. Steam started to billow off of All Might as he turned back towards Shigaraki. Shigaraki started to scratch his neck even faster. Maybe it was some sort of nervous tick.
"Are you not going to fight me?" All Might asked Shigaraki, who was looking like a deer in the headlights. "Is it not your mission to defeat me?"
Shigaraki started to breath hard and fast. Kurogiri came up beside him and talked into his ear. "Calm down, Tomura Shigaraki. Look closely at him. Nomu did enough damage that we still have a chance to succeed in our mission."
Shigaraki started to calm down and he nodded. "Let's finish what we came here to do."
Shigaraki and Kurogiri rushed All Might as he stood there unmoving. Suddenly Midoriya zoomed forward to intercept Shigaraki. Shigaraki's hand was almost at Midoriya's face before a gunshot went off. Blood spurted from Shigaraki's shoulder and he fell backward.
We all turned towards the entrance to see all of the teachers from Yuuei at the entrance. "It's game over." Shigaraki mumbled.
Suddenly Thirteen, was who's back looked like it had been ripped off started to use Black Hole on Kurogiri. "Tomura Shigaraki, we must retreat. We will kill All Might some other time."
"Yeah." Shigaraki said flatly before looking at me. His red irises seemed almost familiar as he was engulfed by the fog and disappeared from USJ.
At the end of the USJ incident, two teachers were left in critical condition and only Midoriya out of our entire class had sustained injuries. It was needless to say but the battle that we had fought had left everyone emotionally and physically drained. Nobody in the class celebrated our victory against the villains the only thing we did was go home and try to wrap our minds around the situation.
I was laying on my bunk contemplating what would of happened if one of my friends was hurt or killed when Sister Gertrude came in. "Are you okay, Kenta-kun?" She asked.
I sighed. "Yeah. Just sort of stressed out about the whole incident today. I feel like I could've done more to help."
"Well I'm always here if you need to talk, Kenta-kun."
"Thanks, Sister. I'll keep that in mind but I feel like I'll just feel better after I get some sleep." I said.
She nodded and left the room. I lay there for minutes until I drifted into an uneasy sleep.
An apartment fire. Screams of pain. The laugh of a maniac. The scared eyes of my brother looking at me in worry. The charred bodies of my parents being pulled out on stretchers. A faceless man with some sort of armor covering his torso.
I woke up in a cold sweat. My throat felt raw like I had yelled at the top of my lungs. I could feel the remnants of tears on my cheeks. I coughed and laid back onto my pillow. I hadn't had that dream in six years. Why did it come back to haunt me now?
Was the stress from the incident today what triggered it? Or was it something else?
A vision of red irises passed through my mind but I completely dismissed it. It just wasn't possible. He had died in the fire all of those years ago. There's no way that Tomura Shigaraki is Tenko. Tenko wouldn't hurt a fly and he was such a cry baby. It was impossible for him to become something like that.
It's impossible, I thought as I drifted back to sleep.
A/N: How'd you guys like the chapter? I honestly thought I did a decent job on it but feel free to call out anything that doesn't seem good. (I can take it guys, bring the heat!)
