Sorry in advance for the messed up medical information. I'm a high school student who did a 5 minute google search.
When I woke the next morning Edward was gone. Turning to look for him I noticed Carly was also missing. My mind immediately jumped to the worse as I ran out the room and downstairs stopping only when I heard the familiar voices.
"So your mom has a whole collection full of Bella's baby videos?" Edward said with a mischievous smirk.
"Oh yeah!" Carly exclaimed matching his scheming tone.
I burst into the kitchen to find the two. Edward making pancakes and Carly sitting at the table devouring them.
"Morning love." Edward said with a smile.
"Morning Bellsie!" Carly cried.
I was amazed at the sight in the kitchen, Edward even seemed to be wearing an apron. I sat down cautiously.
"Carly woke up as I arrived and asked if I knew anything about pancakes." I quickly caught on to the fact that Edward was lying knowing the little girl was still watching.
He slid a plate in front of me, put a fork in my hands and stared expectantly.
"I wasn't going to come until later but everyone at the house is really excited to meet Carly. They basically shoved me out the door telling me to hurry you along." Edward added.
He was working his way around the kitchen cleaning up the mess he'd made. I ate quickly so I could pack a bag for Carly. Soon enough the 3 of us were on our way to the Cullen Mansion.
I beamed as we pulled up. Even though it had only been a little over a week since I had seen the Cullen's it truly felt like a lifetime. I realized I missed them even more when I finally walked in and was immediately engulfed in arms the arms of my family. Stepping back they all stared down at Carly waiting for her to do something.
"SHE'S JUST LIKE A TINY BELLA!" Emmet screamed before rushing to the little girl, lifting and twirling her high above the ground.
As he threw her higher than humanly possible he swiftly caught her. Carly laughed as he repeated this motion a few more times. That was until Rosalie began to scold her husband put Carly down.
"I'm Rose." She said after Carly was safely deposited on the carpet.
"You're really pretty!" Carly blurted out and then snapped her hand up to her mouth.
Alice squealed unable to contain herself for much longer.
"I'm Alice!" She squealed jumping up and down.
For a second you would've thought she was the 5 year old. Soon her husband came from behind and put a hand on his wife's shoulder nudging her to calm down in a much quieter way than Rosalie had chosen.
"Jasper." He said simply with a small nod.
"And I'm Esme." Esme said with a warm motherly smile.
"Carlisle." Carlisle said to complete the family's introduction.
"Carly, Carlisle's going to be your doctor." I said informatively.
I hadn't noticed but Carly was pressing her back up against me somewhat shyly. I guess I forgot it wasn't normal to feel welcome in a room full of vampires
Giving a small wave to the family. I ushered my sister over to the couch. The family then scattered themselves around the house.
"Bella why don't you and Carly come with me into my office so we can discuss Carly's medical plan" Carlisle suggested.
"Sounds good." I said.
For a second I forgot that she was even sick. Still s tuck on a high from this morning, catching Carly's contagious good mood. As the door to his office shut behind us I became fearful knowing it was now time to discuss the logistics of the next few months.
"Now as you both know Carly has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia…" Carlisle started pulling out a chart from what seemed to be thin air.
He continued to rattle off the facts we already knew about. Such as the information from her last checkup, and stats of other cases we'd already heard before. I zoned out mostly nodding when I knew it was appropriate.
"I have spent some time going over the work of your previous doctor, and feel that we should stay on her treatment track." He finished.
My head snapped up.
"But that's not working…" I said confused. "Can't you up the rounds of chemo? Attack the cells even harder?"
"I'm afraid that's not an option." Carlisle said. "She's already receiving a lot of radiation and I fear more chemo would do more harm than anything else."
"But it's terminal!" I said so harshly it came out as almost a whisper.
Glancing over at Carly she seemed to not be paying attention anyway.
Carlisle remained calm as I began to become more and more riled up "I understand this is not what you want to hear but-"
"Not what I want to hear? I brought Carly here to Forks so you could fix her! Not maintain her own treatment plan!" I yelled.
"It's normal for someone in your situation to be upset." Carlisle said.
His doctor composure was starting to piss me off. "Don't talk to us like we're just another one of your patients!" I spat.
Carlisle seemed surprise by my outburst but let the shock show for only a few seconds.
"Bella, you do understand Carly has cancer?" He questioned softly. "I'm very well trained but surely you don't think that I can cure her?"
And with that nothing else needed to be said. Tears welled in my eyes as I looked back ay Carly. She had squished herself into the edge of her chair clearly uncomfortable. My throat tickled and I cursed at any tear that threatened to fall. Because yeah, I guess that is what I thought. I thought that somehow Carlisle would magically be able to save her. That he would do something that seemed so obvious once it was done. That Carly didn't have the number 6 hanging over her head. That she would get to live the long and happy life that she deserved.
And because I thought that; I ran. Out the office, past a stunned Edward, and out the front door. I took off towards the forest not caring as the tree branches slapped my face, if the dirt got on my clothes, or if the tears in my eyes decided to fall.
