Legacy Duelist X

Chapter 3: First Day of Classes

LDX/LDX\LDX

"Well done, Mrs. Rhodes, I expect nothing less from one of my Obelisk Blues," Crowler praised, after having asked Alexis probably the easiest of easy question, an explanation of the types of cards. Of course Alexis, being the grade A student she was, didn't give the answer Jaden or, even Austin, would've given the disliked doctor. She gave an in-depth explanation of the cards, and then each of the categories a certain card could fall into.

"Now then, who to ask next," Crowler said to himself, as Alexis retook her seat between her two friends Mindy and Jasmine. His eyes first went to Melanie, but decided to not ask the girl a fifth question. He then looked to Jaden, who was happily snoring away in the row directly behind Alexis, with Melanie to his right. A cruel smirk came to his face at the prospect of humiliating the boy, but realized with how loud the brunette was snoring, he could sneak in a cheap shot on a Slifer or two before. Which is when his eyes landed on the form of Syrus. "Mr. Truesdale, why don't you tell us the use of a field spell?" Crowler asked, a facade of kindness and empathy on his face.

"Um, well...you see...a field spell is...um," Syrus mumbled and stuttered, feeling the eyes from above on his neck as his face tinted in embarrassment.

"Even a pre-dueler knows this, Slifer Slacker!" A random Obelisk Blue called out, making the class burst into laughter at the horrible excuse of a joke.

"Hm, I suppose the dueling trait skips a generation in the Truesdale household, take your seat," He demanded, knowing full well that his remark stung the boy deeply. Of course, the comment brought another round of laughter down on the poor Slifer.

Melanie growled at the Doctor's jab, it was obvious the boy was nervous, and it was Crowler's job to help with things like that. It didn't help that the rest of the class had laughed at the poor kid, even some of the Slifers laughed. She turned to Jaden, about to complain about the mistreatment of the boy and wake him up. But, when she looked, his head was already picked up and he was staring at the Doctor in boredom.

"Whoa there, Doc," Jaden called, stopping all the laughter and making eyes turn to him. "There's no need to be picking on the guy, besides didn't I beat you partly in thanks to the effect of a field spell? Maybe, you should stop picking on Slifers and study up on what you're teaching so you don't lose to a..." He grew thoughtful, his finger finding his chin. "Oh, what was it he called me, do you remember, Mel?" He asked, earning a smirk from the girl. "That's what I thought; So, you won't lose to a 'upstart' like me," He goaded, making the class burst into laughter. If it wasn't the low blow they laughed at, it was the face of the Obelisk Head Master; because, Crowler's face contorted in pure rage and embarrassment as he bit on a handkerchief he pulled from his coat.

Alexis looked back at Jaden from the corner of her eye, a small smirk on her face after she had reigned in her giggling at the boy's joke. She already knew how the boy felt about bullying and someone mistreating another, she learned that much from his duel with Chazz. It made her heart warm that someone could care so much for someone he'd just met, or someone he hardly even knew. It just intrigued her even more.

As Alexis silently examined the mysterious boy, Crowler fumed at Jaden's jab at his dueling skills. He would not take such insolence, even if it was coming from his top freshman recruit for the year. Crowler knew just how to show the boy who was boss, he would not only get him demoted straight to red dorm, he'd have expelled from the school. "Oh yes, just you wait, Mr. Yuki," The Doctor thought, smiling evilly as his class left at the sound of the bell.

LDX/LDX\LDX

"That was pretty cool of you back there," Alexis said, even as she diligently copied the words Professor Banner was currently saying. Jaden, who it was directed to, raised a brow at the attractive blonde quizzically.

"What do you mean?" He asked, not entirely sure that had been directed towards him or not.

"What you did for Syrus back in Crowler's class, that probably meant a lot to the little guy," She smiled, stopping in her notes to briefly look at him.

"I guess, but I mean, I'd do that for just about anybody," He said, smiling back before he returned his head to the desk.

He was on his way to nodding off when her voice whispered to him, again. "Do you ever stay awake in a class?" Her voice had a teasing hint to it, as she looked at him from the corner of her eye and smiled. He was fixing to make a smart-ass comment at the little jab, but Banner calling out to them nearly gave both a heart attack.

"Oh forgive me, I'm not interrupting you am I?" Banner cheekily asked, making both teens blush and look away from the prying eyes of their fellow class mates. "If not, Jaden, maybe you could tell me what a Shadow Game is," He asked, trying to gage the boy's knowledge.

"A Shadow Game is something that was believed to have originated in ancient Egypt, and it's a type of duel where two people will bargain their souls on the outcome of the match," He answered, only having to think of the words he wanted to use to describe one of his favorite subjects.

"Very good, Jaden, most don't now even that much about the Shadow Games; and, I have a bit of a feeling you know much more than you've mentioned so far," Banner complimented, a knowing smile on his face. His head suddenly turned straight to Syrus, and for a moment Jaden was beginning to think he'd have to help the guy out, again. "Syrus, can you bring me Pharaoh?" He asked the bluenette, making Jaden sigh in relief and Syrus look at the professor strangely.

"Pharaoh?" Syrus asked, not knowing what Banner had referred to.

"Yes, my cat, unless you plan on minoring as a scratch post, of course," He joked, a kind smile on his face as the mentioned cat mewed happily while running it's fur along Syrus' leg. The class continued on as usual after that, Banner proving to be the favorite teacher of most, so far.

While this was going on, Crowler had been scheming and plotting on a way to rid himself of Jaden Yuki. He was currently sitting in his personal office laughing to himself as his plan came together. "All I have to do is leave this note from Alexis in his room where he'll find it, snap a picture of him entering the girl's dorm, and he'll be on the next boat out!" He cackled, not noticing the misspelling of Alexis' name. Hastily, he folded up the paper, pushed into an envelope and sealed it with a...*writer shutters*... kiss. He energetically bounded from his chair and over his desk, before running out of his office with the note in hand.

LDX/LDX\LDX

"What're you talking about?" Jaden asked, looking at his surrogate brother like he was crazy.

"Jay, I'm telling you, she's completely into you and you'd be a complete idiot to not take the chance!" Austin repeated, for the umpteenth time in the twenty minute walk to Jaden's dorm room. "I would bet half of my deck on the fact that you have a shot with Alexis, she's been starring at you funny and everything. Like when we were weight lifting in gym class, she couldn't take her eyes off that little body of yours, and your dumbass didn't even notice!" The Kaiba raved, shaking his head at the apparent density of his friend.

"Look who's talking, how long have you been crushing on Mel, and how far have you gotten in asking her out?" Jaden retorted, making the sandy brunette haired boy roll his eyes.

"Don't try turning this around, you know exactly why I haven't taken the chance to ask her out," Austin scolded, a look of remorse coming to his face as he thought of his reasons.

"And, you know exactly why I'm not taking a chance with Alexis, besides, we just met yesterday," Jaden sighed, making a smirk spread across Austin's face. "What?" Jaden asked, not liking that smirk one bit.

"Do you remember back when you were nine and I was ten, and we had a tag duel with Zane and that Red-eyes user?" Austin asked, making the two-toned brunette raise a brow questioningly.

"You realize you've gotta be a little more specific when you say Red-eyes user, we happen to know a few of them," Jaden pointed out, making Austin sigh in disbelief.

"Atticus Rhodes, her older brother, and the guy that was so insistent about getting you to meet his sister?" Austin tried, doing his best to jog the Hero users memory.

"You mean the guy that kept calling me Jay-man, and proclaimed himself to be the Master of Love? That's her older brother, and she's the one he was saying I needed to meet?" He asked, in slight disbelief. He and Atticus, despite that the boy could get on his nerves with some of his antics, had become pretty good friends that night and had somewhat kept in touch. A forgotten fact suddenly hit him and he looked at Austin in disbelief, once more. "Wait, didn't he go missing last year? During the Shadow Game incident?" He asked, earning a slight nod from Austin.

"I'd be careful bringing him up with Alexis, it's an extremely raw subject, it doesn't help that she doesn't have a clue about the full story behind his disappearance," Austin said, just as they had finally reached Jaden's dorm room. The brunette, currently processing what he'd just learned, quietly went to unlock his door. But, his mind cleared when the door creaked open when he just barely touched it. "...That's odd, I'm almost positive I locked this thing," He muttered, pushing the door open.

When they walked in, Jaden was surprised to find his room just the way he had left it. But, not one to assume anything, he quickly walked over to his desk and pulled the top drawer open revealing several deck boxes with combination locks on them. "Hm, their all still here, even my extra cards are still here...and, everything else is on me still," He said, making Austin raise a brow at him. The Kaiba heir walked over to Jaden's bed and raised his brow at the envelope placed neatly on the foot of the blue bed.

"Hey, Jay, I think this was someone leaving something instead of taking," He said, holding the small envelop up for the brunette to see. "I think you've got a secret admirer, and I know exactly who I'm putting my money on," Austin chuckled, pointing out the lipstick kiss that sealed the note away.

Jaden easily snatched the note from Austin's hand, rolling his eyes at the annoying grin on the Kaiba's face. He opened the note and nearly gagged at the over powering scent of cheap perfume. Holding the note at arm's length, he read with squinted eyes as the perfume burned them. "'I love you, Alexis Roads?" He read, rolling his eyes at the misspelling of the girl's name.

"HA! pay up!" Austin cheered, not hearing the tone of Jaden's voice.

"Nice try, not only is her name spelt wrong, but I highly doubt Alexis would wear a perfume this cheap. Not to mention, she's definitely not the type of girl to tell someone something so important in a note," Jaden debunked the Kaiba's theory, making the boy sigh in defeat. "Give me a sec and I'll call her over the DAP," He said, almost slapping himself when he saw the grin on Austin's face return with fever.

"Already got her number, huh, you, old dog you," The sandy brunette teased, nudging Jaden with his elbow.

"Will you drop it already!"

LDX/LDX\LDX

"Hey, Alexis," Mindy called into the room Alexis and Melanie shared. "You two want to join us out in the wading pool?" She asked, her and Jasmine standing in the open doorway of the room.

"Sure, sounds fu-," She was cut-off by the ringing of her DAP. "Huh, Jaden's calling me?" She asked herself, slightly surprised. She pressed the accept call button, and had to suppress her giggle at the scene she saw on Jaden's camera.

"Damnit Austin, don't make me knock some sense into that head of yours!" The two-toned brunette raged at a seemingly teaseful Austin.

"Well, hello to you, too," She said with a smile, bringing the attention of the brunette to her.

"Oh, um, sorry about that," He said, sheepishly rubbing the back of his head, making her giggle slightly.

"It's okay, what did you need?" She asked, smiling at him.

"Well, I think someone's trying to set me up using you as a tool, and they can't even manage to spell your name right," He chuckled, holding the note up. "I found this in my room after Austin and I got back from the weight room, I'm guessing someone was trying to get me to the girl's dorm so they could get me in trouble. Or, they just wanted to try and embarrass me," Jaden said, making Alexis roll her eyes.

"I'm guessing we're on agreement with who did it?" She asked, earning a small nod from the brunette. "Then, why are you calling me if you already know it's a setup?" Alexis questioned, not that she minded him calling her.

"Well, there's only really one person I've really wanted to duel since we came to this island, and that's you, Lex," He said, that confident smile of his coming to his face. "And, I know you've been wanting to duel me, too, so what do you say?" He asked, earning a small smile from Alexis.

"Oh my God, did he just call her 'Lex'?" Mindy asked, rather gushed. "That's so cute!" She and Jasmine gushed together. Alexis ignored them both and happily agreed, telling Jaden she hoped he brought his all.

"Don't worry, I will, you girls meet Austin and me at the center of the Girl's dorm lake, see ya there!" He smiled, winking before he cut the feed. He may have missed the blush his winking gave Alexis, but Mindy and Jasmine sure didn't.

"Shut up, or I swear you'll regret it," Alexis threatened, seeing that both were about to squeal giddily.

"Did I hear Jaden in here?" Melanie asked, walking out of the restroom with her violet night gown on.

"He just challenged me to a duel on the lake," Alexis answered, making Melanie snicker.

"Ah, Jaden, he can be such a romantic," Melanie teased, her smirk mimicking one her mother would've used when teasing Tea about Yugi.

"Really?" Alexis deadpanned, making Melanie laugh happily.

LDX/LDX\LDX

It seemed like only moments later when the two stood across from each other, both at the bow of their respective boats. Austin and Syrus stood behind Jaden, the bluenette having been invited when they'd run into him being picked on by Obelisks, that Austin had personally handled in a duel. Mindy, Jasmine and Mel all sat behind Alexis, while said girl stared intently at the face of her opponent.

"So, you ready to get things started, Lex?" He asked, slotting his deck into his Duel disk.

"More than ready!" Alexis answered, activating her Duel Disk.

"Then, get your game on," He cheered, activating his gear as Alexis activated her own.

Alexis: 4000

Jaden: 4000

"You know the saying, ladies first!" Alexis said, drawing her sixth card. "And, I'll start by summoning Etoile Cyber. Then, finish it up by setting one face-down," She finished, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Nice start, and now it's my move!" Jaden said, drawing his first card just as Alexis had. "Sweet, I'm starting things of by playing Spell Book Inside the Pot, allowing us to both draw three cards from our decks," He said, taking his three as Alexis took her three. "Next, it's meet and greet with Elemental HERO Voltic!" He cheered, as a monster burst onto the field like a surge of electricity. "But, he's not much unless he's holding his trusty tool, Voltic Spear!" He said, as a spear appeared in his Hero's hand and raised his points to two thousand.

"Looks like Jaden's not holding back, be careful, Lexi," Melanie warned, earning discerning looks from Mindy and Jasmine.

"I'm not worried," Alexis smirked, enjoying the obvious fact Jaden wasn't taking her lightly.

"Then, you won't be worried when Voltic attacks your Etoile Cyber!" Jaden called, his monster charging forward with its spear poised for an attack.

"Sorry, but I activate my trap card, Doble Passé!" She countered, surprising Jaden when his monster instead attacked her directly. "It turns your attack into a direct attack, protecting my monster," She cringed as the spear electrocuted her.

"What?" Jaden said, shock clear in his eyes.

"And, it allows my Etoile Cyber to attack you directly, and when she attack you directly she gains five hundred extra attack points!" She called, shocking Jaden, again, as he monster's attack grew to seventeen hundred and she attacked him with a mighty kick.

Alexis: 2000

Jaden: 2300

Jaden cringed at the loss of life points, "That Alexis, she's something else, sacrificing herself to protect her monster and inflict some hurt on my points," He said, starring at her with respect in his eyes.

"So, you impressed yet, Jay?" She asked, folding her arms as she smirk confidently at the two-toned brunette.

"Impressed?" Jaden asked, standing tall as that winning smirk of his came to his face. "I think I'm in love, you're really something else, Lex," He smirked, Alexis getting so flustered by the comment that she missed his light blush.

"You're sweet, too bad I've got to crush you," She countered, reigning in her slight embarrassment.

"Well, if that's the case, I'll set two cards and let you show me what you've got!" Jaden said, two face downs appearing in front of him.

Alexis drew her card, and smiled at what she got, "I activate polymerization, to fuse the Etoile Cyber on my field with the Blade Skater in my hand to summon my Cyber Blader!" She called, a woman wearing a grey and purple leotard briefly appeared next to the red headed monster before both spun in a huge whirlwind to create a new more powerful monster. (ATK:2100 DEF:800)

"And, I'm not done there, because I'll be normal summoning my Cyber Tutu to the field!" She called, a ballerina with a pink bob appearing next to her fusion monster. "Tutu's got a mean effect, too. When you've got monsters on the field but none of them have equal to or less attack points than her, she can attack you directly," She called, her monster beginning to spin towards Jaden.

"Sorry, but I activate my trap, A Hero Emerges!" Jaden countered, pressing a button on his disk. "This trap makes you pick a card from my hand, and if it's a monster it's summoned directly to the field," He said, holding his hand up for Alexis to see with the cards facing him.

"What's this going to change?" Mindy asked, not understanding the activation of this card.

"Knowing Jaden, he's either got a monster in his hand with less or equal attack to Tutu, or he had been planning to use that to summon a high level monster before his second turn," Melanie answered, watching the duel with great interest.

"I'll chose the one on the far right," Alexis finally called, having paused to listen to Melanie's insight.

"And, that means the end of Tutu's attack, because you just chose Avian!" He called, his loyal feathered Hero appearing in defense mode next to Voltic.

"Nice move, Jay, but thanks to your second monster my Cyber Blader gets double her original attack points and, they're all aimed at your Voltic!" Alexis called, pointing her finger at the monster. "Cyber Blader, attack!" She ordered, her monster attacking obediently.

"Wrong, again," Jaden intervened, pressing a button on his custom duel disk. "I activate Hero Barrier to block your attack!" He said, a force field appearing in front of his two monsters.

"You really come prepared," Alexis smiled, enjoying the challenge Jaden was happily presenting her. "Since, I've already used my battle phase up, I'll play my own Spellbook in the Pot, allowing us to both draw three cards," She said, confusing Syrus, Mindy and Jasmine as the dueling pair drew their cards.

"Austin, why would she play that at the end of her turn giving Jaden more cards to use?" Syrus asked, looking at the Ra confused.

"She's probably got nothing in her hand to defend her from Jaden's next turn, it's a calculated risk that was worth taking. Jaden may get some cards, but she gets a last chance to make a defense for her and her monsters," Austin explained, eyes still not leaving the duel.

"Before, I end my turn, I'll set one card facedown," She finished, refolding her arms to watch Jaden's move.

"My move," Jaden said, drawing his card. "And, I'll start by playing Pot of Greed!" He smirked as he drew two more cards, bringing him to nine cards. "Then, by playing Polymerization I can fuse Avian and Voltic, to create Elemental HERO Great Tornado!" Jaden yelled, a whirlwind bursting onto his field and stopping to reveal one of his strongest fusions. "And, since there's only one monster on my field your Cyber Blader's attack goes back to normal. But, it gets worse because Tornado's special ability cuts the attack and defense of every monster on your field in half," He smirked, as Alexis' eyes widened in shock, she could see why this was one of his strongest fusions. (ATK:1000500)(ATK:21001050)

"Not good, Jaden's really taking this up a notch if he's pulling Tornado out," Melanie said, looking at the fusion monster with a small amount of fear.

"Now, Great Tornado, take her Cyber Blader down!" He ordered, a smirk coming to his face when his attack was successful.

"I activate the spell card, Residual Reflection!" Alexis called, making Jaden understand why her points didn't fall any. "By banishing two of the monsters in my graveyard, I can make all the battle damage I would've taken zero!" She said, a smirk on her face as the girls behind her cheered her on, even if her Blader had been destroyed.

"Nice move, " Jaden said, looking over his hand. "I'll set two cards and discard two," He said, considering the hand limit was six and he couldn't hold more than that at the end of his turn.

"Meaning it's my draw!" Alexis said, drawing her card. "I'll start by summoning Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands, which allows me to choose a ritual spell or monster from my deck and add it to my hand!" She declared, adding said card to her hand before she continued. "Then, I activate Quick Summon to summon Senju of the Thousand Hands, and his effect allows me to pick one ritual spell from my deck and add it to my hand!" She did as she had before and picked another card from her deck. "Now, it's time to even the field a bit, and it all starts with me playing my Machine Angel Ritual spell! With this, I can sacrifice the Manju and Senju on my field and summon, Cyber Angel Dakini from my hand!" She called, as a woman with four arms, two holding swords and the other pair holding a lance, appeared in front of her.

(Cyber Angel Dakini Atk: 2700 Def: 2400)

Jaden looked on confused as the Angel's attack halved, silently wondering why she would do all that work for this monster. But, he didn't comment, he knew she was good enough not to waste her cards like that.

"You see, Dakini has this special effect, that when she's Special Summoned one of your monsters is destroyed!" She said, a proud smile on her face as Tornado was cleared from the field. "Now, drain his life points ladies!" She declared, her monster preparing to do just that.

"Hate to burst your bubble, but I play my own copy of Residual Reflection to zero out all the damage I would've taken!" He said, banishing two monsters from his grave to save his life points.

Alexis smiled at his counter, she really was enjoying this duel, it had been a while since someone had pushed her so hard. "I guess that's the end of my turn then, your move," She noted, smiling slightly at the brunette.

Jaden drew his card, and a big grin crossed his face. "I've had a lot of fun dueling you, Lex, but this is the end of our duel; because, I use Polymerization to fuse Burstinatrix and Avian to summon Elemental HERO Flame Wingman!" He called, the fusion HERO from his duel with Crowler appearing at his side. "And, I'll be discarding the Elemental HERO Captain Gold to bring Skyscraper to my hand from my deck!" He called, slotting said card into the graveyard and plucking the other from his deck. "Now, I'll activate Skyscraper, and you know what that means!" He said, a city growing from the water of the lake.

"That Jaden's Wingman will have more than enough to take out her Dakini, and his effect will end the duel!" Jasmine stated, surprised that this would be the end.

"Flame Wingman, use Skydive Scorcher on her Cyber Angel Dakini!" Jaden ordered. His is HERO did as it had in the duel with Crowler, flying to the highest point of the city, before it burst into flames and dove at the Angel. Alexis had nothing on the field to counter, so Dakini was destroyed.

Alexis: 1600

Jaden: 2300

"Don't forget his effect, because when Wingman destroys a monster, that monster's attack points are dealt to you as damage!" He noted, as Wingman appeared in front of the blonde with the dragon's head on his arm wide open. Alexis cringed as the holographic flames assaulted her, dropping her life points to zero. "And, that's game!" Jaden cheered, that confident smile on his face as he gave Alexis his two fingered salute.

LDX/LDX\LDX

As the duel was ending, Crowler was still waiting in the bushes of the Girl's Dorm as he waited on Jaden to show. His patience was wearing deathly thin if the random twitching was any indicator. Frankly, he wasn't sure if the boy would even show, but he was holding out hope that he would.

LDX/LDX\LDX

"That was a great duel, Alexis, I really can't wait for the next one," Jaden complimented, smiling at the dishwater blonde who had pulled the motorboat next to the boy's paddle boat.

Alexis smiled at Jaden's words, "Thanks, I had a lot of fun, too," She smiled, arms folded.

"Well, I guess we'll see you girls tomorrow in class," He smiled, before sitting down as Austin began to paddle the boat to the "safe-zone" for the boy populous. "Oh, and if you see Crowler, tell him 'Jaden said, nice try,!" He called, chuckling to himself.

"Happily," She called back, watching him go with a smile.

"You are so totally into him," Jasmine finally squealed, making Alexis blush and sputter.

"If you deny it, you'll only make it worse," Melanie advised, trying to get the answer out of her roommate. But, sadly, Alexis just 'hmph'ed and took a seat; obviously not willing to budge on the matter.

"Jay and Lexi, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-"

"Don't make me do good on my threat from earlier," Alexis interrupted the group sing-a-long, her cheeks red, all she did was make her friend giggle giddily.

LDX/LDX\LDX

Hours later, nearly time for the sun to rise, Crowler still sat in the same bush he had all night. Though, steam could be seen coming from the bush as he glared through the little hole in the foliage. "WHERE IS THAT BOY!?" He finally yelled, unable to keep quite any longer. "I GIVE UP, BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD!" He ranted, storming from his hiding place and to the gate he had 'unlocked' last night. "YOU TRY TO GET RID OF ONE KID, AND THE ENTIRE WORLD TURNS AGAINST YOU!" He raved, before diving back into the water and beginning his swim to the other side.

LDX/LDX\LDX

A/N: Alright ladies and gentleman, what did y'all think of my return to writing? It may be a little bad, namely because of how long my break was from writing; again, sorry. But, I am determined to finish this story from entrance exams to graduation with my own arcs added in during what would be considered summer breaks. Though, even with my determination, I'm not quite sure as to when the next chapter will be released. Tomorrow morning, I'm starting classes back for my second semester of college (Becoming a Welder is tough work) and I'll be going to classes from 8am to noon on Monday and Wednseday; which, isn't bad at all. But, Tuesdays and Thursdays, I'll be going to class from 8am to 9pm(yes, you read that right, 8am to 9am). So, as you can guess my devotion to writing for you guys, while there, may suffer slightly. But, I refuse to abandon my story, and there is no way in HELL someone is adopting my baby (no offense).

Well, I think that's enough from me, tell me what you guys thought in the reviews section, follow to keep up to date on when 4 comes out, and favorite because you love me...I know you do! Lol, later guys, HAPPY 2015!
