A story of love, confusion, magic, family and betrayal… this is Mermaid Tears.
I felt some bad feelings from all you readers after telling you that this story isn't that long, but things aren't set in stone yet. This story might be longer and shorter than I said it would be, it all depends on how much story there needs to be between now and the ending I have planned.
Well let's get to those review responses I'm sure you look forward to.
God Of Music and Songs: I'm glad you think so, who knows maybe after this one is done I'll write another.
WinterKnight2104: Well we'll find out in this chapter… possibly.
Draconus S: Was that your version of a PotC reference, the whole 'bugger' thing, things will get interesting between you and her, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Guest: And you should I mean after all she has saved your ass twice.
Stylin80: It could be longer I have absolutely no idea… so you'd rather have the story end with an ending people would probably hate me for than see Elsa get injured? *chuckles* Looks like someone's in love already.
Shawn Raven: Well actually the parody is called 'Raging Sea' another Frozen parody brought to you by W. R. Winters… one of these days I need to record them and post them so all that want to hear them can listen to them.
CraighouseDOG: Hm, well that's good news, and I plan to. I can't make any guarantees though.
Smashy70: Really? Well I'm glad this idea is a good one then, I think it's halfway done, but I may be wrong.
Chinsangan: I'll leave my plans for Hans a secret for now, but they will be revealed eventually. It pleases me to know that an Elsa X Reader story writer like yourself is reading and enjoying my own ideas in this fandom.
Cloud4012: I'm glad you liked it, considering I came up with in in only like an hour or something close to that.
PissedOffKristoff: Thanks for the compliments… and what was with the perverted comment? I mean we all have our fantasies, but seriously.
Tomahawk2812: Sort of like that, has the elements of PotC, but not enough to make this a crossover fic.
NAZARIL21: I'm glad you think so, hopefully this chapter is one worth waiting for.
Okay those are out of the way, I don't own Frozen, and probably never will.
Okay, reader responses… check, disclaimer… check, now all that's left is to GET THIS CHAPTER STARTED!
-*X*x*X*-
You were sitting at the desk in your captain's quarters, you were holding the notes the Courier Falcon had brought back. It had been almost a week since you had captured the mermaid. You were about halfway home and still needed to send a report back to Prince Hans. The Courier Falcon arrived this morning and you didn't hesitate to read them.
Captain (Y/N),
I am very pleased to know that you are close to the Seas of Arendelle, I wish you good luck on your quest and hope you are successful with the rest of your mission.
You almost smirked thinking of what Hans' reaction be when he heard of your success, you went on to the next note, the one that was from Olaf and Anna.
Hey (Y/N)! I hope you're doing alright, things have actually been great for me and Olaf. We're getting the royal treatment and Hans has been a real gentlemen. I think he fancies me a little, but don't worry I won't let him try anything. Not until you approve of him of course. We really miss you (Y/N), both of us do. I hope you come back soon, as much as I enjoy living in the castle. It's just not the same without you around. We love you.
You smiled reading the note, you put it down, but saw something on the back. You turned it around, it was a picture of you sailing on your ship, slightly poorly drawn, but it was still cute. It must've been from Olaf, the small message under it proved that theory.
Hi (Y/N) it's Olaf I'm having Anna write this for me since I can't write yet, but I can still draw, I hope you like it and remember to bring me back something cool!
You chuckled, it was almost a tradition that every other trip you went on whether it be planned or not, that you would bring Olaf some kind of a souvenir. Something you still needed to get. You wrote down a response to both notes in a single letter saying you had what you came for and you were on your way home. You heard something coming from inside the ship, it sounded like laughter. You rolled up the note and put in in the container on the Courier Falcon's back and sent it on its way back home. Then you stood up and left your quarters to see what was going on.
The mermaid had always wondered what it would be like to be out of the Seas of Arendelle, now she wasn't sure that was what she wanted. She was in a glass box and she was surrounded by the men that captured, they were mocking her, if the cage wasn't partially open to let in air she wouldn't have been able to hear them.
One of them laughed, "You should've seen how we grabbed this sea bitch out of the sea in our net. She was almost begging for mercy as we locked the cage, we also saved the captain's life as well. She was about to rip him to shreds." The man bragged.
The mermaid wanted to say something to tell them that he was lying, but she didn't speak. She could only think about you. At first you were just prey, but after she say that scar she realized exactly who you were. She couldn't just let you fall prey to her sisters. Her tail had healed, but she could still feel the pain from when you stabbed it with your sword. Did you even remember her? If you did, why didn't you let her go?
One of the crew members put his face next to the glass and the mermaid hissed at him, he only laughed and tapped the glass, "What are you going to do, drown me? You're utterly helpless now." He said then he smirked, "Perhaps we should let you out of that box so you can dehydrate." Now the mermaid felt a little scared.
"What the hell is going on here!" a voice boomed everybody turned around and saw you standing there, and you looked pissed, "Get away from that coffin and get back to your stations."
"Captain we're not needed at your stations," one said. Your eyes narrowed and you growled, the scar making you look even scarier.
"Get above deck and make yourselves use full, and I better not catch you harassing her again or I swear I will personally send you to Davy Jones' Locker in pieces." You threatened and they nodded and ran out of the room.
You sighed and rubbed your brow with your hand. You dropped your hand and walked to the coffin. You looked at the mermaid, "What did they do to you?" she didn't speak and you could understand that. "If they mocked you in any way I'll make sure they never do it again." You said before sitting on a barrel next to the coffin. "So do you have a name?" The mermaid was silent, but you could feel her eyes on you. Knowing that she wasn't going to talk to you, you reached inside your coat pocket.
The mermaid was somewhat surprised when you pulled a flute out of your coat, "Been playing this ever since I was eight, my little sister was five and wanted to learn how to sing. My parents were hesitant, so I told them I would be with her the whole time, my parents interpreted it wrong and the next thing I know I'm learning how to sing." You said and you could've sworn you saw the mermaid smile, "One of my lessons I was bored and saw a flute. It was shiny so I picked it up and tried to play it. My teacher looked ready to scream at me, but she stopped when she heard the noise than came out of the flute. She said it was surprisingly beautiful for a boy that had never touched a flute in his life." You explained, "So while teaching me and my sister to sing, she also taught me to play the flute. It's helps me let go of my anger when I play it." You said before raising the instrument to your lips and began to play the mermaid melody you heard all those years ago.
The mermaid's eyes widened as she heard the music, she knew it all too well, but she had only sung it to someone else once, and it was to heal you. Did you really remember it, to the point that you were able to play it on your flute.
"Where did you hear that?" a soft voice asked and you stopped playing. You looked at the coffin, then you opened the lid a little.
"What did you say?" you ask, you had heard her, but her voice was so beautiful you just had to hear it again.
The mermaid's head left the water, "Where did you hear that song?" she said.
You backed away from the coffin, "I heard it a few years ago, after I nearly died and was lost at sea forever. A mermaid sang it and healed a large gash on my face, and put me to sleep. When I woke up I was on the shores of some kingdom. Every time I play the flute I play that song to make sure it's still in my memory, and the only thing that convinces me that I didn't dream the whole thing is this scar." You said.
"You really remember?" she asked softly, she didn't seem to be talking to you and then you knew this was the same mermaid.
"Captain!" You turned to see your first mate, "You're needed above deck, the crewmen have started another brawl." You sighed and stood up.
You began to walk away, "Elsa," you stopped and turned around, "you asked me if I had a name. My name is Elsa."
You smiled, "A pretty name, it fits you." you said as you tipped your hat, "Pleasure to meet you Elsa, I'm Captain (Y/N)." you gave her a small smile and it looked like her cheeks turned a little pink.
You walked onto the deck to find that the crew made a circle around two of your crew members engaged in an all-out brawl, mostly a battle between egos that went totally ballistic. As you approached the cheering was slowly silenced and they parted when you walked through. The two seamen continued to fight and when they noticed you the fight abruptly stopped.
You looked at them, then at the crew surrounding you, "Get yourselves organized." You said and immediately the crew gathered themselves like a squad of soldiers waiting for orders, "We have what we came for and I want to get this ship back to the Southern Isles as soon as possible. Which means I can't have all of you acting like a bunch of sea monkeys." A wind whistled, it was strong enough to almost blow off your hat. You turned around and saw that the area ahead was stormy, judging from the wind it was going to be a rough one and it was moving towards you and fast. You turned to your crew, "Get the ship ready for a storm, the winter storms in these seas have been known to send the largest ships to the depths, but this ship won't go down so easily."
An hour later the storm hit, there's wasn't any snow or sleet thank goodness, but the seemingly endless amounts of rain still hit hard against you, the wind was making it hard to keep a firm grip on the wheel, "Derrick!" you shouted, a large muscled man ran up to you, "keep us on course and whatever you do don't let go of this wheel." Derrick was the strongest man in your entire crew, if anybody could keep a ship steady in a storm it was him.
"Aye Captain." He said and you let go of the wheel and Derrick immediately grabbed the wheel to steady the ship. You jumped the rails and onto the main deck to help the men secure the ropes. Waves of all sizes crashed against the sides of the boat tossing it back and force rocking it back and force. This storm was rivaling the storms the Seas of Arendelle would destroy ships with.
Thunder boomed and lightning lit up the sky, you had seen and lived through some rough storms, but you had never seen anything like this. There had to be something that could be done, a large wave slammed against the side of the boat rocking it severely. In the howling wind you could hear the sound of something made of glass breaking. You turned to the sound. What was… the coffin. The glass coffin, and Elsa… wasting no time you rushed to the cargo hold.
You found the glass coffin completely shattered. You saw Elsa on the floor and rushed to her side, her tail was starting to disappear. You took off your sea coat and wrapped it around Elsa slightly surprising her. She turned her head and her light blue eyes stared into yours. She looked away and pulled the coat tighter around herself. The coat was slightly big on her so it easily covered her. She finished buttoning the coat to guarantee that she would be covered.
You gently put your hands on Elsa's arm and helped her up. She was a little wobbly at first, but she was able to stand firmly, "Are you okay?" you asked her.
"I'm fine," she said, "the storm sounds and feels powerful." She said.
"It is," you said, "if it doesn't settle down this ship with surely be sent to the bottom of the ocean." You said. Elsa heard what you said and almost felt happy, if the ship sank she would be free to go home, but whenever she thought about it. Her mind would always turn to you, you wouldn't have a chance of getting home without your ship, and from the way she heard you talk about your little sister, you wanted nothing more than to get home to your family.
"Bring me above deck," she said slightly surprising you. "Just trust me." you were hesitant, but you nodded.
It took everything in Elsa's willpower not to revert into her mermaid form when she felt the rain on her skin. She walked across the ship's deck until she was at the front staring at the stormy sea in front of her. She closed her eyes and began to concentrate.
You looked at Elsa having no idea what she was doing, but then something about the air around her seemed to change. You had no idea what it was, but then you felt something different, the rain wasn't coming down as hard as before and the boat wasn't being tossed by the waves like a ragdoll. Was Elsa… stopping the storm?
There was a noise that sounded magical and without warning Elsa's hands shot forward and a blast of ice blue magic was released from her and it went straight into the clouds. It was only a couple seconds later that things started to change. The wind picked up again, but this time it was blowing in their favor and the waves were longer tossing a turning and the downpour ended.
Elsa's stance stumbled and you ran up behind her just in time to catch her when she fell. She look like what she just did took a lot out of her, she looked at you and gave you a weak smile before she fell asleep from exhaustion. You picked her up bridal style and turned to the rest of the crew, "Get back to work and make sure we stay on course." You commanded as you walked back below deck.
You put Elsa down on the bed you usually slept on while at sea. She seemed to almost snuggle into it and you found the sight very cute. She kind of reminded you of Anna, but it was slightly different. You gently brushed some of her loose hair out of her angelic face. She did look very beautiful, even for a mermaid. You stepped away from her. You turned away and felt your heartbeat pick up, what was wrong with you? This never happened before, well not this much anyway. Was it because of Elsa? Were you possibly… falling for her.
"No," you said shaking the thoughts out of your head, "you can't think like that, you need to deliver her to Hans. You have a mission to carry out." You said as you left the room. You were dead set of completing this mission, so why did your heart feel heavy when you thought of handing her over to Hans?

Okay and that's a wrap, I hope you all enjoyed it. If you did, be sure to leave a review telling me how much you liked it and what you liked about it.
Well I don't have anything more to say, so until next time Captain.
This is W. R. Winters signing off.
