Chapter 4

"How may I help you sir?" Serenity said as she tried to remain as polite as possible to her new customer, even though she was still upset by the little stunt that Kaiba had pulled earlier.

~Flashback~

"Thank you! Come again!" Serenity exclaimed. She figured her boss would want her to be super enthusiastic with the CEO to make him feel appreciated; like he really needs anymore of that, she smiled none the less. Her eyes drifted over to the table to see that she only got one measly dollar as a tip.

Seto noticed her gaze towards the table and smirked. "Be grateful I'm at least giving you that much. I was only going to give you fifty cents, but I decided to be nice about it and give you a more generous tip."

Serenity couldn't believe the nerve of him! She mentally was blowing all kinds of gaskets and if possible, she would've had smoke coming out of her ears like a cartoon character when they're angry with someone. On the outside, she remained calm and polite, though it took a lot of patience and practice to behave in this kind of manner with customers who acted like this. "I am very grateful sir. Thank you very much!"

~End Flashback~

"I'll have a coffee...black."

"Sure thing, coming right up. Wow those are becoming popular today; this is the second one I had to make. As Serenity handed the customer his drink, and he paid for it, he suddenly noticed that she was upset.

"Miss...uh Serenity, (he saw her name tag) are you okay? You seem upset." Serenity knew it was unprofessional to talk to customers about other customers, so she decided to just avoid talking about the situation.

"I'll get over it. Sigh. Do you like your coffee?" There was an awkward silence as the mysterious customer took a sip of his coffee.

"Oh, it's delicious, the best black coffee I've ever had." He gave a soft smile and Serenity blushed. "I have to go, but in case you ever need to talk, here's my card, it was nice meeting you Serenity." Derrick grabbed his cup of coffee and turned towards the door to leave.

Serenity regained her composure, took a quick glance at the business card she was just given and saw that her mysterious customer's name was "Derrick Gordon." "Have a nice day, and thank you for coming Derrick!" She gave a soft smile as she watched him leave the coffee shop and he waved upon his departure.

For a second Serenity felt like she was on cloud 9, up until Talorina came up and burst her bubble.

"Stop wasting precious time Serenity, we have customers waiting!" Serenity could feel the anger bubbling inside her, but she knew that retaliating against Talorina wouldn't end in her favor so she let out a deep breath and returned to her duties. Serenity placed Derrick's business card in the pocket of her jeans and greeted her next customer with a smile. The coffee shop stayed busy until 12PM when Serenity took her 10 minute break. As soon as she saw the clock hit 12, she grabbed her coat and bolted out of the coffee shop as if her pants were on fire. She headed straight for The INSERT NAME HERE Park. When she arrived she headed straight for the lake, stood in front of it and just screamed.

"What's with the racket? You do know that people come to the park to enjoy the quiet, and not the noise." When Serenity heard the voice she became even more infuriated when she recognized who it belonged to.

When Kaiba left the coffee shop he headed down the street to his meeting. When he entered the building he was greeted by his receptionist, but he didn't bother to greet her back. Yumi didn't take it personal as she learned the hard way, working for Seto Kaiba for the past two years; however she was more concerned about how tired and upset her looked, she even felt a bit worried. Kaiba took the elevator and went to the 9th floor of the Kaiba Corporation Building to the Board room. When he entered all the Board of Directors were already seated and waiting on him. He took a deep breath and took his seat at the head of the table. A senior board member Mr. Takinaka who's been with Kaiba Corp since its inception saw the look on Kaiba's face and also felt a bit concerned, this was becoming a trend.

Mr. Kaiba are you feeling okay? You don't look to good".

Kaiba stared at the board member with his blue orbs full of anger, but when he replied, he simply said "I had a rough night."

"Now that Mr. Kaiba's here we can begin." The meeting's main focus was about finalizing the deal with Fushiki Industries to increase the production rate of making Kaiba Corp Duel Disks. The meeting was almost concluded when Mr. Fushiki himself burst into the Board Room, a representative from his company kept him updated on the happenings in the meeting.

"Before I sign anything Mr. Kaiba and I must have a little chat first". He then motioned with his fingers for Kaiba to follow him. Kaiba rubbed his temple; he could feel his headache suddenly getting worse, he took a deep breath and followed Mr. Fushiki into an adjacent office and shut the door behind him.

"What is this about?" Mr. Fushiki could see the rage in Kaiba's eyes, along with hearing it in his voice.

"Why so upset?" Kaiba just stared at him, he didn't bother to reply.

"Me signing this business deal that will allow Kaiba Corp to increase the production rate of duel disks."

He didn't even bother to smirk, "that's what it's always been about; please don't tell me you brought me in this office to tell me something I already knew".

Mr. Fushiki smirked, and then chuckled. I have something to add on to our little business deal we made two years ago. I would like you to show me that you and Analia are in it for the long haul". Kaiba's eyes widened.

"I want you to show me that you and my daughter have a future together and then I'll sign."

Kaiba felt the pounding in his head reach and all time high, to the point where his head was pounding in a staccato rhythm.

"That's not what we agreed on." Mr. Fushiki smirked again, "let me remind you of something, you need me, I don't need you, so basically I call the shots".

Kaiba tried to hide his disgust with this new proposition, but he couldn't. He couldn't believe that Mr. Fushiki had just proposed such a deal. "If I decline our previous business deal about the duel disks become null and void…"

"Correct".

Kaiba knew the decision he was about to make was going to change his life forever, but he felt he had no choice. "You have a deal." "One question though, why are you so hell bent on Analia's spending her future with me?"

"'Cause I know that she'll be well taken care of, and as I father I couldn't ask for more".

"Some father you are, that you have to black mail someone in order for that to happen, I think that speaks volumes on your daughter's character. And I beg to differ; you do need me, who else would put up with your daughter?"

"You have a point, but she's not my problem anymore, she's yours now".

Mr. Fushiki left the adjacent office and returned back to the Board Room and signed the contract.

We'll see about that. Kaiba thought to himself as he saw Mr. Fushiki depart the office after their little conversation. He was too tired to smirk. He felt as if his head was going to explode. He took another deep breath and let out a long sigh and then returned back to the Board Room.

Mr. Fushiki turned to him, as he reentered the Board Room "It's always a pleasure doing business with you Mr. Kaiba". He extended his hand for Kaiba to shake it, Kaiba did, and as Mr. Fushiki turned to leave with his representative that was at the meeting, he said "Good day" and left.

Kaiba turned and faced the Board of Directors, "I have to leave immediately, but someone over to Fushiki Industries to see how our duel disks will be produced at that factory". With that he basically ran out of the office and ran into the elevator, where he was in complete silence and solitude. As the elevator descended to the first floor, he could feel his headache starting to subside. When he departed the elevator, he went directly to Yumi's desk "hold all my calls, I'm leaving for the day, I don't feel well".

"Yes sir, I hope you feel better sir". Kaiba nodded and left the office, he left and went to the nearby park and sat on a bench situated in front of the pond. He was enjoying the peace and quiet, until he saw Serenity come up to the pond and ruined all that when she opened her mouth and screamed.

"I'm screaming because of you!" Kaiba stared at Serenity with a blank look on his face.

"What did I do?" Serenity didn't even hear his question, she just continued ranting.

"I don't know why I ever thought you'd change, you exactly the same as you were in high school, cold and heartless; you only care about yourself!" Kaiba continued to stare at her.

She actually looks cute when she's not screaming to the top of her lungs.

He knew that she was going to say that he was a jerk next, so he decided to beat her to it; "I'll admit I was a jerk this morning, but I had a rough night."

"You took the words right out of my mouth." But on a more serious note, are you okay? You don't look so good."

"I'm fine." He started to regain his colour but he still looked a bit unwell. "To make it up to you for how I acted this morning, I would like to take you out to dinner to apologize."

Serenity smirked. "I'm pretty sure you've never heard this word from a girl before, seeing that you're the almighty Seto Kaiba, but no, I will not go out with you".

"I never said anything about a date". Serenity quickly regretted what she'd just said, but had a quick rebuttal.

"Neither did I, I have to go now". As she quickly turned on her heel, Kaiba could see the redness in her cheeks.

Kaiba smirked as he saw Serenity hurry back to the coffee shop, and an idea popped in to his head, he was the Seto Kaiba and he always got what he wanted and he had his eyes set on a new prize.

Serenity rushed back to the coffee shop as fast as she could, because she knew that Talorina would be on her case, if she was a few minutes late. Serenity took a look at her watch, it was exactly 12:15PM "Shoot, I'm late…" As Serenity re-entered the coffee shop Talorina was right there to echo the same words Serenity didn't want to hear.

"You're late! Where have you been?! Customers have been waiting for over 5 minutes!"

Serenity stared at her, she felt herself reaching to her breaking point of dealing with Talorina, but she decided to keep quiet, as she needed this job as if her life depended on it...and it did.

Serenity sighed. "I was on my 10 minute break."

"Whatever, you've had customers waiting and you know I don't like it when customers have to wait. I want efficiency in this establishment".

Efficiency? We're not robots ya know, so the customer's will have to wait, it's only common sense. Serenity thought to herself, she would never dear say that out loud.

"Yes ma'am." Serenity returned to her post behind the counter, removed her coat and began to serve the customers. A half hour after she returned, so did Kaiba, and Talorina did not hesitate to make sure that he was served immediately.

"Oh Mr. Kaiba..."

Back at the coffee shop, as soon as Serenity entered, Talorina was on her case, but what was more intriguing was that Kaiba returned to the coffee shop right after Serenity and refused to be served by none other than her.

"What?" Kaiba tried to be as polite as he could muster.

"What would you like sir?" Talorina asked.

"I would like you to leave me alone." Kaiba blatantly stated. Talorina's eyes widened.

"But I would like Serenity to serve me if you don't mind, she did such an excellent job this morning, I just had to come back." After he heard the words leave his mouth he tried everything he could not to laugh, recalling the events earlier in the morning, but he decided to display his ever so famous smirk across his face.

~Flashback~

Seto looked to his right upon hearing footsteps approach him. The girl coming towards him seemed familiar. Where had he seen her before? He shook his head. Why am I wondering about such trivial things? He decided to blame the lack of sleep. That had to be it.

"Here's your drink sir," Serenity replied setting the cup down on the table. Phew! I didn't stutter. "Have a nice day!" She smiled.

"Whatever," Seto responded as he sipped some of the coffee.

Serenity stood there awkwardly. She knew her boss would want to know that the drink was satisfactory to the twenty-three year old CEO of Kaiba Corp. Her hands were clasped in front of her. She twiddled her thumbs nervously.

"Why are you still here?" Seto asked, putting the cup down. He glared up at Serenity.

"I um…I just wanted to make sure the drink was to your liking sir," Serenity smiled again, though hesitantly. Seto's expression frightened her a bit.

"Humph. Yes, the drink is fine. Now, will you leave me alone?" Seto wasn't in the mood for chatting. Actually, he was never in the mood to talk with anyone other than Mokuba.

Serenity was taken aback by Seto. "Yes sir." She walked away in a hurried manner. Geez! He's so cranky! She scowled, not liking the way Kaiba had treated her. She had to wonder if he even recognized her. She remembered seeing him in the hallways constantly at Domino High School. She could also recall Yugi trying to befriend Kaiba, urging him to join Yugi himself and the rest of the gang that consisted of herself, Yugi, Joey, Anzu, Tristan, and Duke. She did feel bad that Kaiba never had a true friend from school. She also remembered seeing him eating lunch by himself all the time at school, typing away on his lap top or reading a novel.

She sighed and before she could do anything else, her boss stormed up to her, invading her personal space. She just about jumped three feet into the air.

"Did he like the drink?! Did he?! Did he?!" Talornia asked, her green-brown eyes wide with worry.

"Yes, he did," Serenity replied, recovering from the shock of her boss getting into her face the way she did.

"Good! You did something beautifully for once!" Talornia ran off towards other employees that had arrived moments ago.

Serenity glared daggers into her boss' back. She did everything to the best of her abilities! She'd been told dozens of times by costumers that the drinks she made tasted absolutely delicious. She was one of the smartest students in all of Domino High School for heavens sake! Unfortunately Talorina was just very good at pushing other people's buttons.

Seto finished the last of his drink and sighed. He got up from the chair, tossing the empty cup into the nearest trash can and was about to head out the door until the red head girl from before came over to him.

"Thank you! Come again!" Serenity exclaimed. She figured her boss would want her to be super enthusiastic with the CEO to make him feel appreciated. Like he really needs anymore of that. She smiled none the less.

Seto's smirk grew. He was starting to feel a little better seeing this girl try so hard not to blow up in his face. He gave no response other than his 'trademark smirk.' He then walked out of the shop and gave the place one last glance before making his way over to his company. As he was walking, realization hit him like a lightning bolt striking a power line. That girl! She's the sister of the mutt! Even though he told himself not to wonder over such a useless thing, a small part of him couldn't stop thinking of where he had seen the red head at. He now remembered seeing her at Domino High School with Yugi and all his friends.

He couldn't believe that she was related to that dog Joey Wheeler. They looked nothing alike and definitely didn't have the same IQ. She was in the Top Ten for Smartest Students in Domino High, number 4 to be more precise. What was her name? Ah yes! He remembered her name tag read 'Serenity.' He mentally slapped himself. He was doing it again! Letting his mind wander, when he should be more focused on the upcoming meeting, that he was sure, was going to put him to sleep (mentally speaking of course).

Serenity sighed and picked up her 'fabulous tip' and went back over to the counter to get the rest of the customers their drinks.

~End Flashback~

Talorina hurried over to Serenity and practically dragged her away from her station to serve Kaiba.

"What are you doing? Get your hands off me!"

"Mr. Kaiba would like you to serve him."

"What? Not after this morning." Serenity's eyes opened wide.

"That's precisely why he wants you to serve him." Serenity's eyes widened even more, as she was utterly confused. Either she remembered the events from this morning differently or Kaiba was just crazy.

"You better do a good job."

"Yes ma'am." And with Serenity's reply Talorina turned on her heel grinning from ear to ear, actually astounded that the Seto Kaiba was in her establishment twice in one day.

Serenity walked up to Kaiba with a genuine smile plastered across her face, but he could see it in her eyes that it was a forced smile, so he decided to have a bit of fun.

"Yes sir, how may I serve you."

Kaiba chuckled a bit and then smiled.

"I would like to have...(he took a brief look at the menu) nothing."

"Huh? So why are you here?" Serenity was utterly confused.

"Have a seat." Kaiba gestured for her to take the empty seat in front of him.

"What I want, is...

"Is what? I have other customer's to serve."

"You didn't let me finish...what I want is...(his constant pauses were beginning to upset Serenity) you.

"What?!"

"You heard me."

"Is this some kind of sick joke to annoy my brother?" Serenity exclaimed.

"No, I'm actually being serious."

"Yeah right."

"I would like to invite you to dinner to...apologise for my behaviour this morning."

"Really? You came here to invite me to dinner? Now I know this really is a joke. Hmph!"

Serenity actually stood up to leave and Kaiba basically grabbed her arm and dragged her back to her seat.

"As I've said before, this isn't a joke, I'm serious. So are you going to accept my invite or not? I mean you seem to be too prideful to accept my offer, I thought we may go to Lé Chateau Maroux."

Oooo that new fancy Italian restaurant! I've always wanted to go there! Serenity contained her excitement with the best poker face she could muster.

"Hmph. I may be prideful but I'm not stupid, you don't refuse food."

"So is that a yes?

"hmmmmmm...yes"

"I'll pick you up at seven."

"So you actually came here to ask me out? WOW.

"Yes, because I want you."

"Huh?"

"And I always get what I want"

"Well listen here bub, I'm not some prize to be won, I only accepted your invite to dinner and nothing else.

"We'll see about that, see you at seven." And with that he got up to leave, "oh before I forget here's $20 bucks before your uptight boss thinks you didn't make any money off me and here's your tip, Kaiba pulled out a $100 dollar bill." He then got up and quietly left.

Serenity was too shocked to say thank you. She saw Talorina quickly approaching and she suddenly snapped out of it. She immediately hid her tip in her apron pocket and got up from the table.

"So did he order anything?"

"No ma'am, but he did give me $20 bucks."

"As a tip?"

"No ma'am as payment for just having me sit there."

Talorina gave Serenity a questionable look. Do I look stupid to you? You know Serenity if you want to fraternize with the customer's you don't do that on company time."

"But I wasn't...

"Get back to work."

Serenity got up from the table and went back to her station. Sigh. I don't know how much more of this I can take.

Valerie saw the look on Serenity's face and she became worried.

"Serenity is something going on between you and Mr. Kaiba?

And there you have it, Chapter 4 is complete, it took me a while, I do apologise for the wait, my life just slowed down a bit for the Christmas break, so I decided to finish the chapter. I was practically finished from October (I know you're probably wondering, well why didn't I put it up? Well I wanted to add some stuff, which I did tonight. Hope you like it. ^_^
