Wind beneath my Wings of Freedom
Summary: My name is Kagome. Since the end of my adventures down the well, I've been living in what one might say was an 'alternate universe'. And maybe that's true...the world I knew, was no longer. I came up through the well of a family I had never met...and was taken in by them. I became a storyteller...a tutor...and the caregiver of the orphans near the outer wall Maria in the city Shiganshina. "To them...I'm just a story teller...but to the kids, it's hope that my words reveal."

A Fight worth Fighting

'Things are about to change...' Kagome's eyes were closed, with the winds of change blowing fiercely through her hair and forcing a chill all around her. "You're right Grisha...I do feel it."
Kagome jumped as Eren ran out and waved his farewell to his father before the fighting once again started up. She liked Kalura, yes...but she couldn't help but disagree with her in concerns of her sons want to join the Survey Corps. She herself had already fought in a war, though...nothing like the ones the Survey Corps fought in, but she did hold herself up against demons. That had to account for something, right?
"I meant what I said. The whole idea is just irresponsible."
"Huh?! Irresponsible?! So what, it's more grown up to settle for living in fear behind a wall your whole pointless life!?"
"Eren!"
Kagome watched the boy run off, and listened to the words whispered to Mikasa. When Mikasa left to find Eren, Kagome turned her eyes to Kalura with a question in her eyes. "Kalura...I know it's none of my business, but please...what do you mean by 'the boy needs to be protected from himself' and why embark that task of protection on another child?"
Kalura held a troubled look in her eyes, "so many things you don't know about..."
"Care to share, it just so happens that I've got plenty of time."

(Two Hours Later)
'I didn't want to believe what I had heard. It wasn't something that could easily be believed anyways...but now, I understood the fear in Kalura. Why she so fiercely was against her son fighting in the war...or joining the Survey Corps.'
"Keep them safe...Kagome. I've never felt so worried in my life. As if something truly horrible is on the horizon."
Kagome nodded, "you may not be too far off...I feel it too." Sighing, she stood and made her way towards the door. "I'm going to go out and find Eren. I won't try to change his mind, Kalura...I feel it's his choice to do what he wants with his own future...foolish or not."
Kalura frowned, but nodded all the same. "I understand...just watch out for them...all of them."
"Mikasa and Eren?"
Kalura smiled, "not just. You've also taken a firm liking to Armin...he needs someone to care for him as well...your good with them."
Kagome glared, "you keep talking like your dead!"
"...life is so easily taken away from us, I won't live forever, Kagome."
Shaking her head, Kagome left without another word. 'Whatever thoughts may be going through your head, Kalura...you can't honestly expect its right to put that kind of expectance on a child! Mikasa is only ten. It's not...right...'

Finally finding the kids, Kagome took an immediate notice to Armin's wounds. "Armin! What happened?"
Armin blushed, looking away to avoid eye contact with Kagome. "It was just a couple of strays...I'm fine. They are just a few bruises."
Kagome looked over his cheek, nodding, he was right. The marks were only scuffs and bruises. From her vantage point, he would be fine. "Sorry, I reacted...without really thinking."
All of a sudden a loud shock of energy shook through the streets. Kagome's eyes took to the direction of the bright light shooting up into the air and moved towards a large, ever growing crowd. Armin stood beside her and Mikasa and Eren were quick to follow them.
"What's going on?!" Eren called out from behind Armin.
Kagome took Mikasa's hand and stepped closer to Eren and Armin, "we need to go...now!" Kagome's eyes widened...staring at the large human looking titan that was staring just over the wall Maria. It was huge, nothing like a normal Titan. Not the ones she'd seen...not the ones that were out there while she was atop the wall staring out at them. This was..."colossal..."
Another explosion brought forth a large cloud of smoke and the titan's foot tore through the wall, breaching the barrier that had once upon a time, kept them safe.
"They've breached the walls!"
Eren took off towards the house, and Mikasa was quick to run after him, releasing Kagome's hand in the process. "The explosion...it no doubt destroyed their house...Kalura..." Kagome closed her eyes, but turned to Armin, "I need to get you to your Grandfather, from there, get to an evacuation ship! I will get Mikasa and Eren only once you are with your grandfather..." she said this while picking the almost ten year old up.
Jumping atop a roof, she ran faster than anything Armin had ever seen, or ever experienced. He was terrified, but still held on tightly, looking on quietly and more than just a little scared as destruction wreaked havoc in Shiganshina.
"Hannes!" Armin yelled out.
Kagome flinched and slid to a stop. Hannes was helping a couple to their feet when Armin had called out.
"Armin! Kagome~!"
"Hannes, Mikasa and Eren ran to their house! You need to help them!"
Hannes looked scared, for sure, but took off in the direction of the Yeager household all the same. A look of determination in his eyes.
"There is your grandfather!" Kagome lunged forward, grabbing the railing of a nearby window before swinging forward and landing gracefully on her feet before the old man. "Run to the evacuation ships!"
"What about you!?"
"I'm going to go and get Eren and Mikasa...I need to help them!" Kagome yelled out before leaving Armin with his grandfather who was quick to pull his grandchild towards the evacuation ships.

Arriving in time to see the three screaming to save Kalura, Kagome was among the few to witness Kalura be eaten by the Titan. Anger...fear...loss...so used to these emotions, she rushed forward, blinded with the familiar feeling of animosity driving her. Jumping into the air, her nails sharper than normal, she rushed the titan and brought almost demon like claws down across the front of the Titan. It fell forward, but that stupid grin was still plastered on its ugly face. "You disgusting monster! You killed her~!" She sent a kick towards its head, and using her demon energy, she watched in satisfaction as its head flew back across the Wall Maria. The body fell motionlessly to the rubble below. Dropping to her feet, Kagome felt the warmth of blood filter the air and fall much like rain across her body before turning and leaving, making her way back towards the evacuation ships.
The ship with Eren, Mikasa, and what looked to be Armin and his grandfather, had already started to take off. At her heels, she felt another Titan gaining quickly, turning, she jumped and flipped so that she was atop his shoulder. Jumping up, she pushed forward with her elbow leading, and rammed it into the back of its neck. 'It's softer there...but,' Kagome's eyes widened when the Titan moved quickly to avoid her strike. Shaking her head, she jumped out of the way of the Titan and dodged a strike aimed directly at her. Jumping the gate, she landed nearby a group of soldiers, screaming for them to run before she herself took off towards the ships. "Sink or swim~!" Her voice carried over the heads of the people left behind by the ships, "You have a better chance swimming than staying behind!"A few listened, she took to running alongside the ship moving further away before jumping along a roof then, with every ounce of strength she possessed, she pushed off the rooftop and jumped for the ship. She could hear a voice over everyone else's.
"KAGOME~!"
'Armin...'
