A/N: WOOHOO! :3 Surprise update people! :D Queen of Impromptu Decisions here xD
First of all, I'm terribly sorry for updating so late D: And even so, this isn't the full chapter… I'm merely giving an excerpt! Time isn't exactly on my side right now being in the Junior year/ Sec 3 of my secondary school (I think it's high school?). Will write about it in my profile.
Disclaimer: If I really am the creator of Fairy Tail, I wouldn't be taking so long with updates right? DUH.
Changes In The Heart

"GRAY, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING!?"ARE DOING!?"YOU'le man."dios rightI wouldn'xDenly wander in). e, so he should know pretty much what is going on in every
"That's battle freak. Is his brain really made of ice?" Lucy face palmed.
"He could have gotten the easy way out!" Carla rolled her eyes. "But being that battle crazy he was, he decided against the idea."
"Personally, I do not like the odds of this." Erza said, folding her arms.
Natsu, finally snapping out of his reverie, exclaimed, "GO POPSICLE! BEAT THAT SABER BASTARD TO A PULP!"
"Oh I'm getting excited myself too! Why didn't I go out?" He added as an afterthought.
Lucy jabbed him in the ribs while Erza stomped on his foot.
"At least he should pick a fight he knew he could win for sure!"
"Ice Make: Lances!"
"Do you not remember about my afterimages?"
"Ice Make: Lances!"
"That's really forgetful of you."
Gray smirked as he kept sending lances towards every direction while Rufus just keep appearing and disappearing.
"I wasn't aiming for you!" Gray triumphantly declared, still keeping up the ice arrows. "I was aiming for those monsters!"
Rufus's eyebrows were raised, before he chuckled and narrowed his eyes.
"Then I have to thank you for forgetting to collect them before I do!"
Gray's dark eyes widened dramatically and he frantically shouted, "Ice Make: spikes!" In a flash, most of the jewels on the ground were covered in pointed ice.
Gray pointed at the ground and sniggered, "By the way, in case you have forgotten," He rolled his eyes, "those sharp tips aren't for fun."
"You are the one who seemed to have a memory block. I have many fire spells in my arsenal."
"Ice hammer!"
Rufus leaped a few feet back, holding tight to his hat.
"This isn't just about collecting jewels," Gray said.
"I know, I know. This is also about our battle." Rufus muttered, giving the Fairy Tail mage a haughty smile.
Gray's eyes were predatory, his smile widening. "You do realise you cannot do a single thing if you cannot move… right?"
Rufus glanced at his feet; sure enough, with Gray's sentence, they were covered in ice, all the way to his knees. How did he not feel the coldness before it was too late?
Gray, knowing what Rufus must have been asking himself, answered, "Why thank you," He gave the masked man a mock bow, "you made the right choice in wearing thick velvet pants."
"Why I must thank you instead." Came a voice right next to Gray's ear.
Gray whipped around, his eyes wild. Did his trick not work?
"But all fair in war isn't it?" The "Rufus" before him dissolved into air, appearing right beside the white coat wearing wizard. "So I thank you for providing me the opportunity to collect those lovely jewels you've trapped."
"You…" Gray started, but was once again, interrupted.
"AND TIME' OUT! YOU WILL NOW BE TRANSPORTED BACK TO THE ARENA!"
Dismay was clouding Gray's face. Rufus disappeared soon enough, parting with these condescending words,
"Better luck next time."
SABERTOOTH.
FAIRY TAIL B.
ORACION SEIS.
MERMAID HEEL.
LAMIA SCALE.
BLUE PEGUSUS.
OUATROS CEBERUS.
FAIRY TAIL A.
"I have to hand it to you Gray! Wahahahaha!" Bacchus cackled after he took a look at the scoreboard. "Eager to find trouble aren't you?"
"You can do better next time Gray-sama!" Juvia encouraged, mustering up a smile for her beloved.
"Aww not to worry! You guys will do better in the battle! Good job anyways!" Millianna grabbed his hand with both hands, gasping slightly at the coldness of it before shaking it up and down.
"But if history repeats like how I remembered it to be, your team will not be winning the battle either."
The little group eyed Rufus apprehensively when he added in his own not-so-encouraging comment. "That blonde does have a point." Ren muttered, averting his gaze from the rest in… embarrassment of agreeing with the "big enemy"?
Millianna hissed sharply, "You're not helping!"
Lyon watched his kohai staring at the ground dejectedly and sighed, The comments from the rest were all unnecessary. "You could have been better off if you did not fought Rufus. I know a student of Ur can defeat that condescending jerk."
And granted, he wasn't expecting it, but help came from an unlikely source.
"You're not that weak. Your teammates understands that. They have absolute faith in you."
Those three sentences spoken by Cobra made Gray lift his head in surprise, and stared at his retreating back.
With Fairy Tail A (Gray included)…
Lucy's brown eyes went wide and she said, "Woah, do you think he changed?"
"It might be possible; he does have a big heart." Said the innocent and kind Wendy.
"Only for his snake you mean." Natsu muttered, staring at his sandals.
Erza, with folded arms, stared at Team Oracion Seis who were allocated a few meters away from them and said, in a neutral tone, "He is a good person, deep down, they all are. But with them suddenly appearing in the competition, it does leave a lot to imagine."
"It doesn't matter." Gray drawled lazily, "Let's just observe the battles. I want to know how much they improved."
"So hardworking." Natsu teased, "Guess you feel guilty for being rash just now?" Gray blinked, stared at the ground and scratched his dark hair.
"Natsu." Erza gave the salmon haired mage a warning glance. But it was ignored.
"Isn't it?" He prodded with glee.
Having sensed that his fire magic companion would not stop pestering him, Gray retorted, "It takes one to know one."
Confusion clouded the said mage's face. "Now what does that mean?"
"Dimwit."
"Popsicle!"
"Bad breath!"
"No self awareness!"
"Dense!"
"FOLLOWING THE SAME SYSTEM LAST YEAR!"
Gray and Natsu stopped, both mirrored a wide-eyed expression and they chorused, "Its beginning!"
"WE ARE GOING TO HAVE BATTLES!"
Erza's face was one of seriousness, "We must observe the battles carefully. We know all too well how much a person's magic could increase within the span of one year."
The rest nodded in agreement. Back then, three months was able to get them slightly stronger than what they would have in seven years. It wouldn't be surprising to see various mages a whole lot stronger after witnessing their spectacular comeback.
"Last battle: Lucy VS Angel".
And in a way, time stopped.
"Can we really trust Angel to not pull of any funny tricks?"
"Permission to attack if they do sneaky things!"
"Has the Oracion Seis really changed?"
This had all of Fairy Tail, both A and B, talking.
"Shh," Erza hushed her group. "Keep watch. Blue Pegasus and Mermaid Heel are battling."
The full chapter will be out soon (I hope!)
