Prompt: Knight In Shining Armour
Let Me Be The Hero
Draco's heart broke more and more with every passing moment as he held his beloved black haired lover tightly in his arms and offered what love and comfort he could to his upset lover.
"Why? What did I do to cause them to think like this?" Harry asked between heartbroken sobs as his hands tightened their grip on Draco's top, "I did everything that they ever wanted me to do and more! Why do they want me to do this for?"
"Because they are idiots and they are too self centred for their own good to be able to see what a wonderful person you are," Draco said softly as he held Harry close and ran a calm soothing hand through his lover's hair, "I promise you Ry that I will not let this happen, even if it mean being expelled from Hogwarts and getting into trouble with Fudge and his cronies I will not let this happen."
"Thank you Dray but you can't promise that," Harry replied with a sniffle as he clinged tightly to Draco as his tears slowly stopped, "It looks like I have no other choice, I have to go through with it...I don't want anyone to get hurt."
"Love...you don't always have to be the hero you know?" Draco asked with a frown as he leant down and placed a loving kiss on top of Harry's head, "You don't have to be everyone's knight in shining armour all of the time, why don't you let someone else be the hero for once and sort out all of this mess?"
"Because the only way out of having to marry the witch that Fudge and Dumbledore pick for me is if someone else is willing to marry me, " Harry replied as he rested his head on Draco's shoulder, "If someone would marry me then no one would have control over me or anything...it's an old law I found when I was trying to find a way to get out of this situation...one that even Fudge has to follow but...who would be willing to marry me?"
"I can think of someone," Draco answered as a thoughtful expression crossed his eyes through Harry missed it.
"So can I Dray, I can think of hundreds if not millions of witches and wizards who would be willing to marry the boy-who-lived but I can't think of anyone who would want to marry just Harry," Harry said as he let out a chocked sob as he did his best to prevent himself from bursting into tears once again, "No one will ever want to marry just Harry, all they want is the fame and money that comes with marrying the Boy-Who-Lived."
"You are wrong Ry, I can think of someone who would happily marry you out of nothing more than pure unconditional love," Draco whispered softly into his lovers ear causing Harry to freeze, "The only reason that they have not asked you yet is because they have no found the right time..."
"Draco...do...do you really mean..." Harry asked as he turned and gazed up at Draco with hope filled eyes, "Do you...we...are you..."
"Yes I am love, I am really asking you," Draco replied with a kind truthful smile as he reached into his robe pocket and pulled out a small black ring box and presented it to Harry, "Will you?"
"Of course I will!" Harry all but yelled out without a second thought as tears of happiness fell from his face, "I will marry you!"
Grinning like a loon Draco opened up the ring box and placed a simple golden band with the words 'I will love you forever and a day' written on it on Harry's waiting finger before swooping down and stole a long loving kiss with his now fiancé who only too happily responded.
