AN: Hey guys, sorry that it's been a while since I updated. I had really bad writer's block plus I'm writing a Young Justice, Fairy Tail, Pokemon, and Naruto fanfiction, as well as two books in the making. I know that sounds like a bunch of excuses but I will be uploading these other fanfictions soon. However, until then, let's check up on Daichi.
Chapter 3 History Lessons
It was about 4:00 in the afternoon and most of the students had left school an hour ago. Daichi, Zephyr, Aden and Akane were in the gymnasium discussing the events of a few days prior...
~Flashback~
The Team made their way back to the Beifong estate in Aden's satomobile. After Daichi agreed to the contract, he recommended the Unagi to also enter the league, despite them losing. His grandfather and uncle smiled at his consideration and made sure to change the name from the Pandarillas to Neo-Avatar.
They arrived at the estate and sat down in the foyer.
"So, what exactly happened back there?" Zephyr started.
"Do you want the whole story or the short version?" Daichi asked.
"The short version!" Akane enthused.
"Since the long story will probably get boring." Aden added.
"Thanks Prince Rude." Aden smirked at his friend. "Ok basically I was transported to the Spirit World. While I was there, I met Korra who took me to the Avatar realm of the Spirit World. While in there I met Avatars Aang, Roku, and Kyoshi as well. Then, they told me I was the Avatar, they showed me a battle in the war, then they sent me back."
Daichi saw three eyes blink at him before they all screamed.
"YOU'RE THE AVATAR!?"
"Ow! Yes I'm the Avatar...apparently." Daichi responded.
"And grandma Korra told you herself?" Akane asked.
"Yeah. She also told me some stuff about you Akane." Now everyone looked at him questionably.
"You are going to be a very powerful bender, maybe even more powerful than Katara."
"Wow..."
~End Flashback~
"So are we ready for practice?" Daichi asked his teammates. Aden was resting against the bleachers, almost asleep. Zephyr was still meditating and Akane was playing with Daichi's pet Badgermole, Burro. Daichi was slightly annoyed by the lack of effort. He threw a rock at Aden's head and clamped two rocks together in front of Zephyr's face. They were both shaken up quickly and jolted into standing.
"I'll ask again. ARE WE READY FOR PRACTICE TEAM NEO-AVATAR!?" Daichi shouted louder.
"Sir yes sir!" Aden and Zephyr yelled together.
"Ok let's line up then. Our first game is Saturday against the Liger Wolves. We have to be in top shape."
Zephyr lined up next to Daichi who was in the middle between her and Aden. In front of them were three dummies with three nets behind each of them.
"Ready? Assault!"
The three benders sent a flurry of attacks straight for the dummies. Zephyr's airbending cut the dummy in half and blasted it into the net. Aden's fire flung the dummy into the net, then burned the net. Daichi's disks beheaded the dummy and then bounced the disks of the net and propelled the dummy forward from behind it.
The benders started to calm down and admired their handiwork. They smiled at their progress and decided to call it a day.
"Hey why don't you guys come over to spend the night at my place? Mom's been dying to see you guys again." Zephyr asked.
"I'm fine with it. How about you Akane?" Daichi agreed.
"Yay! Sleepover!" Akane shouted.
"What about you Aden?" Zephyr turned to Aden. He shrugged his shoulders and nodded. She smiled at her friends. "Ok, to the Treehouse!"
Zephyr's mother was Jinora, the daughter of Tenzin who is now deceased. This makes Jinora the oldest living airbender. However, she's only in her fifties. She married an air acolyte man named Ichiya. Zephyr has no siblings, but she has fifteen cousins. Her aunt, Ikki, has ten children with one on the way. All of them are airbenders. Rohan, her youngest uncle, has five children. Only one of them is a non bender. Periodically, Jinora will have the whole family over which is very lively. Hey if you gather nearly twenty airbenders in one room, your sure to get a show.
The airdbenders lived in a treehouse, a ways away from the main city. The tree had several different "houses" each with three rooms. The lowest three rooms could be reached without airbending, however the upper two could only be reached with flight. Typically, guests stayed in the lower two houses with guest rooms.
When the group arrived at the treehouse, they climbed the ladder to the main house. This house has the living area, kitchen with a bathroom, and dining area. Daichi marveled at the interior of the house, noting the architecture being noticeably different from Earth Kingdom and Water Tribe architecture. The walls were painted orange and the wood flooring threw him off a bit. The paintings were neat and organized on the wall and the television was turned to the RCN. There were plants of all colors and sizes around the room and the coffee table was adorned with various magazines and statuettes, all neatly oragnized.
"This place is incredible." Aden was even shocked and he's the Fire Nation prince.
"It's so beautiful!" Akane exclaimed.
"It's drop dead gorgeous." Daichi said staring at Zephyr. She smiled shyly back at him and dropped her head, blushing a bit.
"Well it's good to see you all again." A voice said. The group turned to see a woman in air nomad robes. Her hair was tied in a side bun with the rest framing her face. She had air nomad tattoos. A man was standing next to her with a shaved head. He had gray-blue eyes, air acolyte robes, and a pleasant smile on his face.
"It's good to see you again too Ms. Jinora." Daichi responded bowing. Akane and Aden followed his lead.
"Oh no formality is needed. A friend of my daughter is a friend of mine. Right Ichiya?" She turned to the man next to her.
"Certainly." He replied. "If you'd like to eat now, dinner is ready. As you know, Air Nomads are vegetarian, however, we've made special preparations for you three."
The three outsiders raved at the news and joined the family in the dining room.
Lok and Zuko entered the city of Ba Sing Se. They made their way through the rings of the city. They looked out the window of the metal train and saw the lowest ring of the city. The people seemed happy, yet the area seemed very dilapidated. There were many shops and shacks and plenty of people. Then the train went though the middle ring. The people seemed more refined and clean, and the buildings showed this. While the lower ring's primary color was brown, the middle ring's main coor was green.
Then they entered the smallest ring, the upper ring. If there was a word to describe it, it would be ornate. The buildings were shimmering clean, nearly golden. The people were dressed in the finest clothing in the world. The businesses were booming, the houses were giant and impressive. The train finally stopped in front of the stairs to the palace. Lok and Zuko stepped out, flanked by two Earth Kingdom soldiers.
"Gentelmen, we really don't need the protection." Zuko said pointing at the twin swords on his back.
"We understand your position Fire Lord Zuko, but his majesty absolutely insists on this." One soldier responded.
"He and Master Rohan are awaiting your arrival." The other said.
"Oh so the gang's all here then." Lok chuckled. "Who is Rohan's escort this time?"
"Midori Beifong." Lok's eyes shot open wide. He started to sprint up the stairs to the door of the royal palace. Zuko laughed at his comrade's antics and continues up the stairs. The two make their way into the conference room and saw the two leaders and their associates sitting around the conference table. Earth King Taizu was with his most senior advisor, General Qing. He was adorned in his typical regal robes and regal hat. However, all who knew him closely knew that this wasn't his style. So when the guards left them alone, he discarded these in place for his warrior outfit. This consisted of a sleeveless tunic, metal arm braces, dusty pants, and metal boots.
Rohan chuckled a bit at the "Obelisk". Rohan is the only airbender to not constantly shave his head. As a matter of fact, he kept it at about Zuko's length. He didn't wear typical Air Nomad robes either. He wore an orange United Forces shirt with yellow bindings keeping his staff on his back. He wore brown pants with long yellow cloth tassets, similar to Lok's. his brown shoes were the only things clearly Air Nomad.
Midori was behind him in her green tinted metal armor and dark green dress. Lok eyed her and smiled warmly and she did the same.
"Now, Tempest, Jetfire, what information do you bring here today?" Taizu spoke.
"Well Obelisk," Lok started, "We were engaged in battle with the Antiunion forces three days ago south of Yu Dao. While there, we defeated the forces and were in the middle of interrogating General Song. However, just before he could tell us what we wanted to know, he was killed by another man on their side."
"We did however retrieve this information from his body." Zuko reassured. He pulled out the singed paper and began to read off the information.
"To Yun Song- Zhaz 013
Your mission is to divide the first evidence of union between the nations, Yu Dao, by any means necessary. During this time, Lord Takeshi will be preparing for the invasion of Republic City. The 4 Dividers will escort him there as well. I will be preparing the biplanes for the assault on Ba Sing Se. If you see me pass over, know that we will be attacking Ba Sing Se three days later, by sundown."
Zuko read the last line slowly then checked the clock. It was approximately an hour until sundown. Taizu's eyes widened and he banged his fist on the table.
"Cyclone! Prepare your biplanes. You as we'll Jetfire. Send your escort home as well. Prepare Republic City." Taizu commanded. "Are the Artic Wolves here, Tempest?"
"They're currently exploring the city. They can be called together now." Lok responded. I'll give you one of my planes Midori." Midori looked at him and shook her head.
"You'll need all the planes you have, Lok. Besides, I have my speedster. I'll be home in no time." Midori responded. He walked over to her and kissed her. They embraced for a few seconds and then let go.
"Be safe." They said simultaneously. Midori then darted from the building, heading for her satomobile. Lok looked over to see the other two leaders contacting their forces. Taizu was shouting orders to raise the secondary metal wall.
"All waterbenders, form the ice dome! Metalbenders, raise the iron wall! Nothing passes this wall! Shield my city from these tyrants!"
After all the orders were given, the leaders looked out the window to see a large, metal wall being raised. It was twice the height of the outer wall and twice as thick. Then, they saw a giant wave come up over the city and begin to freeze. It formed a shell of ice over Ba Sing Se. Lok, Taizu, Zuko, and Rohan prepared their armor and headed out to lead their troops.
After the meal was over, Daichi, Aden, and Akane joined Zephyr and her family in the living area. They turned on the TV and saw a breaking news story.
"Hello World, this is Chie Dao. In breaking news, Ba Sing Se is under terrorist attack. The entire city has entered a state of panic. They've raised both the Iron Wall and the Iced Shell. The information of the attack was relayed by Admiral Lok and General Zuko. The entire city has been put on lockdown. The Arctic Wolves, Phoenix Squadron, Earth Kingdom Imperial Soldoers and the Sky Bison force are stationed within the city. We'll have more news as it happens."
The entire group was frozen. Ichiya fumbled with the remote to turn off the television. It was completely silent for a few seconds more until someone spoke up.
"Miss Jinora..." Akane didn't understand what happened.
"Zephyr, take everyone upstairs. Put them in the guest room." Jinora was quick and firm with her words. Zephyr didn't even talk back, she just grabbed Daichi's hand and he in turn grabbed Akane. Aden followed suit. Zephyr led them to her room, two houses up. Her room was filled with old photographs and her walls were painted orange and yellow. The futon was large and she had a kotatsu table. This room was directly connected to the room of her pet sky bison, Runa.
"Daichi..." Zephyr started. Daichi was distraught. He knew his dad was there. He remembered the look in his father's eyes as be bloodbent that man. But he knew his father was good. He was. And so was his grandmother...right?
"We should get some sleep. Doesn't the school have some sort of trip tomorrow?" Daichi asked.
"We're going to Republic City. We're learning about the Avatar Museum. I think it's all grades too." Aden responded.
"Where will we sleep, Zeph?" Akane asked. Zephyr made a face of concern and then one of excitement.
"I have air mattresses in the attic! You and me can sleep in my room and your brother and Aden can sleep in the guest room." She explained. She went out on the veranda of her room and flew up to the highest house. Then she brought down a large, folded up air mattress. She set it up next to her bed and then led Aden and Daichi to the guest house.
The boys eyed their new digs. They had two bedrooms in this house with one bathroom. One bedroom was primarily orange while the other was mainly yellow. Daichi took the yellow and Aden took the orange. Zephyr set up the bedspreads and left to let them get adjusted to their rooms.
"Zeph, before you leave, can I talk to you...alone?" Daichi pondered. Zephyr froze and turned on the heel of her foot she gave him a look. Daichi nodded and motioned for her to come in. Her heartbeat sped up as she followed Daichi into his room. He closed the door after she entered. She sat on his bed and he sat down next to her. She twiddled her thumbs in silence until Daichi finally spoke up.
"Zeph...can you take me somewhere special?" Daichi asked calmly. Zephyr's head shot up fast and she stared at Daichi questionably, a blush forming on her face.
"Sp-sp-special? Wh-what do you m-mean Daichi?" Her heart was racing and Daichi's face was getting closer. Wild thoughts were going through her head and she felt like she would faint.
"Since you're an airbender, and Aang's descendant, do you think you can take me to the spirit world?" Daichi asked hopefully. Zephyr sat staring at him for a good ten seconds and then huffed in anger and pushed him off the bed.
"THAT'S IT? THAT'S ALL YOU WANT FROM ME?" Zephyr was beyond angry and Daichi had no clue why.
"I really need this, I have to talk to the Avatars. I could even try to talk to your grandfather or great grandfather." Zephyr stopped her fuming and gave Daichi an inquisitive look.
"I've only seen my mother go into the spirit world. I have no clue how to do it myself."
"We'll I'm the Avatar and you're an Air Nomad. We're the most spiritual people on the planet. Let's just hold hands and try."
Now Zephyr was blushing again. Daichi got back on the bed and sat down crossing his legs. He put his hands out, silently asking her to take them. She slowly sat the way he was and put her palms in his. They both closed their eyes and sat silently for a while. When Daichi realized nothing was happening, he peaked out of his eyes.
"Close your eyes Daichi, you have to focus on the spirit world." Zephyr reprimanded. She never even opened her eyes! Daichi huffed and closed his eyes again. This time he focused on his grandma and suddenly, he felt his body get lighter, almost as if he was dislodged from his body. He opened his eyes and saw a blue floating Air Nomad girl staring back at him. They gasped and looked down at their bodies, still connected by the hands, but seemingly knocked out. Their spirits floated above the bed.
"It worked Zeph! We did it!" Daichi exclaimed as they high-fived.
"We sure did," Zephyr said. "But what now?"
"Uhh..." Daichi sat there stumped. He had no clue how to get to the Avatar Realm. "Why don't I just call someone we know?"
"Like just yell out 'Hey Korra!' And she'll just show up?" Zephyr said sarcastically.
"She may." A voice said behind them. They were startled and flew back in fear. When they looked at the woman who spoke, they realized it was Korra herself.
"...told you she'd show..." Zephyr muttered. Daichi made a face at her and turned his attention back to Korra.
"I didn't expect you to come to us, Daichi, but I'm glad you did." Korra said sincerely. She did a motion with her hand and the scene suddenly changed to clouds and three figures appeared behind her. Aang stepped up first.
"Hello Daichi. Is this my great-granddaughter?" He asked.
"Yes. Avatar Aang, meet Zephyr Shiro." Daichi introduced the two airbenders.
"The pleasure is all mine, great-grandfather-I mean - I-I mean..." Zephyr stumbled over her words. Aang chuckled at her nervousness.
"No need to feel stressed. Just call me Aang." he said calmly. Zephyr smiled and nodded.
"What did you come here for?" Kyoshi asked bluntly.
"Well, I wanted to learn some history." Daichi started. "Mainly about my family, but also about the world."
"Which would you like to start with?" Roku entered.
"With Sozin's comet...and the Hundred Years' War." The Avatars paused and looked at each other for a moment, then back to the young Avatar. Roku began explaining.
"The Hundred Years' War was brought to light by Fire Lord Sozin. His idea was to share the prosperity and culture of the Fire Nation with the rest of the world, a clear euphemism for world domination. Sozin started to enact these plans, but I quelled the for the time that I was alive. However, when I died, Sozin could put his plans into action, and he did. About 12 years after I died, he used the power of a comet, which he named "Sozin's Comet", to start the war by obliterating the Air Nomads, knowing the next Avatar was to be born an Air Nomad."
"Then," Aang cut in, "The war truly began. The Fire Nation taking over the entire world, killing the southern waterbenders off, as well as quelling all forms of resistance. About 100 years later, I was found and awoken by Katara and Sokka of the southern water tribe. From there, I started my journey to save the world, before Sozin's Comet returned. I did my best, and eventually defeated Fire Lord Ozai. My close friend, Zuko, became Fire Lord, and we, along with Earth King Kuei began the Harmony Restoration Movement. We went through many trails and finally succeeded with the establishment of key cities such as Yu Dao and Republic City. Your great-grandmother, Toph Beifong, was the first chief of police in Republic City. She helped me take down the city's most notorious villain of the time, Yakone. After my time passed, Korra was born in the Southern Water Tribe to you're other great-grandparents, Tonraq and Senna."
"The rest is history, well up to you that is." Korra said.
"Wow...pretty extensive..." Zephyr stated.
"Yeah, definitely." Daichi added. "Now, can you tell me about my family, not Toph or Lin, just Lin's husband."
"Ahh... Kahn..." Kyoshi started. "Kahn was Sato's right hand man, keeping the company up until Asami took over. That's when Lin met him."
"Ok I don't need to learn their love story, just his family history."
"Oh...right..." Kyoshi mumbled embarrassingly.
"Kahn was born to Fu and Yoshi. Yoshi was born to Tong and Kaolo. Kaolo was born to Hama, the original bloodbender." Roku stated.
"Hama taught her son Kaolo waterbending, and then he developed psychic bloodbending later. He then taught it to Yoshi, who taught it to Kahn. Kahn wrote these methods down on scrolls when he was younger, to make sure he would remember the techniques. However, Yakone found these scrolls when he ransacked Future Industries. He found out the art of psychic bloodbending and when Yakone fled Republic City, he taught it to his two sons, Noatak and Tarrlok." Aang explained
"After learning the four elements, I asked Katara to teach me bloodbending, just in case of emergencies." Korra started. "She agreed under the condition that it never be used on anyone I cared for and that I never used it in vengeance, only self-defense. When Lok and Malo were old enough, I decided to teach them the skill, well Lok at least. Your uncle Malo is a firebender like his father. Anyway, Lok got the skill fast and even learned psychic bloodbending quite fast. With all that skill in your blood, it wouldn't surprise me if Akane naturally learned the skill." Korra finished.
The two teen benders stared at the Avatars for a good while, baffled with all the information. They couldn't have imagined the extensive family history, as well as all the shockers.
"Is there anything else you would like to learn?" Roku asked.
"I think our brains are on information overload right now." Daichi responded.
"Well I have one question for you two." Korra said with a smirk on her face. The two looked at her with unsure expressions. "How long have you two been a thing?"
Zephyr turned beet red as Daichi stared at Korra with a shocked expression. "Why would you even ask that?" Daichi asked emphatically.
"Well you've been holding hands since you got here..." Kyoshi said passively. Zephyr and Daichi looked down at their hands and realized they have been attached since they first entered the spirit world. They yanked their hands apart faster than you could say awkward. The Avatars laughed at their antics. "We're leaving now, Daichi said annoyingly.
"Don't kiss all night guys!" Korra called out to them as they transported back to the material world. When they opened their eyes, they were back on Daichi's bed. They were looking right at each other and they separated as fast as possible. Zephyr started for the door, but Daichi stopped her with his voice.
"G'night Zeph. Thanks for the help." She sighed and smiled. She waved her hand and closed the door behind her. She went to her room and flopped on her bed. Akane asked what took her so long, but Zephyr couldn't hear her because she was thinking about the information she received. Daichi was doing the same, wondering what his father was up to.
"We're goin down sir!" The soldier called to Zuko. Their plane had been hit from behind from an enemy plane and they were spiraling down to earth.
"Maybe the plane is, but not us, soldier." Zuko grabbed the man and hoisted him over his shoulder, jumping out of the plane and flying himself, using his own fire, down to the ground. When he had safely landed, the solider thanked Zuko heavily. Lok, Taizu, and Rohan came to join him.
"Has anyone caught site of Zhaz yet?" Taizu asked.
"It's been hours and I haven't seen him once." Rohan said exhaustedly.
"I saw the same black plane that appeared yesterday fly ove the city. I lost site of it just a moment ago." Lok stated.
"Which direction was it headed?" Taizu asked abruptly.
"It seemed to be heading towards the front gate, where they first broke the Iced Shell." Lok responded. "Me and Zuko will head there now."
Zuko signaled for one of his soldiers to land. When they did, Lok and Zuko immediately took their places and headed off to the other side of Ba Sing Se. When they spotted the black plane, it was heading straight for the hole made in the Iced Shell. It went straight into the top of the Iron Wall and Zhaz escaped just before the collision. He rolled out of the plane and went through the wreckage, batting off Imperial Soldiers like it was nothing. Zuko landed his plane on top of the wall and they peered over just in time to see Zhaz propelling down to the main wall. Zuko went after him and Lok had the plane land on the main wall.
Zuko fired two fire balls at Zhaz, knocking him down. He rolled to a stop at the edge of the wall. When Zuko thought he had him pinned, he rolled off of the wall and descended towards the ground. He then cushioned himself with his fire and continued his sprint towards the inner wall. Lok pursued him in the plane, la ding in front of him and jumping out, already in a fighting position. Zuko also had caught up to Zhaz by this point. He was trapped between the two United Forces leaders.
"Well well, the Fire Lord and the Chief of the Northern Water Tribe. How lucky must I be." Zhaz taunted.
"You're trapped Zhaz, nowhere to run. Today isn't your day to get Ba Sing Se." Lok stated confidently.
"Did you come up with that little rhyme yourself, Tempest?" Zuko said sarcastically. Lok simply smirked at him. Then Zhaz did something that surprised them. He raised his hands up in surrender.
"You're right. I concede." He stated simply, his face blank.
Lok looked at him questionably while Zuko glared at him. Lok then got out a pair of handcuffs and put them around Zhaz's wrists. Zhaz put up no resistance as he was lead to the outer wall. He then smiled sneakily to himself, plotting in his head.

"Ok everybody, you have your assignments, make sure you don't forget your bags. It's a full day trip to Republic City so it will be a while before you see your things again. The ship will arrive by sundown tomorrow." Asami spoke over the bullhorn.
Daichi, Zephyr, Aden, and Akane boarded the large ship and about thirty minutes later, it set off for Republic City. Meanwhile, in an unknown part of the Fire Nation, Takeshi was speaking to his four majors, discussing their plans and relaying the information of Zhaz's "capture" and the failed mission to take over Republic City.
"Wait until those pompous windbags realize that they're up against the most powerful force in the world. They can't stand the mighty power of the Avatar." The four saluted him and chanted all at once.
"Géxià, Zànměi nǐ! All hail, Avatar Takeshi!"
AN: What's this Avatar Takeshi business? What's Zhaz planning? What will happen in Republic City. Find out in the next chapter. Remember to review!
