A couple days later the two girls had to take their leave. There was only one more day before Karma had to leave for her mission so the girls had to hurry home so she could get ready. They said one more quick goodbye to Rogue, promising not to wait two more years to see her again.
Karma had completely healed from the Danger Room and was back to her normal self. As the girls traveled home they talked animatedly about everything but the new mission Karma would have to leave for in a day. They stopped for coffee in Washington DC, even though they were almost home Christina insisted on stopping to get some.
Karma just ordered a water, seeing as she didn't like coffee. Christina ordered her coffee black and went to staring out the window, looking deep in thought.
"Chris… chris…" Karma said, trying to see if she was listening. Sighing, Karma left her to her thinking and took in the other people at the cafe. There was a couple sitting a few tables away, a group of friends occupying a booth laughing at something one of them said, and a lone man sitting at a table by the other window drawing. 'He's kind of cute.' Karma thought, taking in his old fashioned style cut blonde hair and muscles. She couldn't see his face but when he looked up she almost gasped.
Karma turned to look away, thinking about the man that was very clearly Captain America. 'How come no one else has recognized him?'
"Hey Karma!" Christina snapped her fingers in front of Karmas face making her blink.
"Yes Chris?" Karma turned her attention to her friend, taking a sip of her water.
"When are you leaving for Pennsylvania?"
"Tomorrow at seven in the morning and I won't get back till maybe a week or two later." Karma answered automatically. She had already read the folder and knew what to anticipate. It was a relatively simple mission requiring getting in, finding out what the weapons were, taking out the group, and then leaving, bringing the weapons to Director Booth.
Christina sighed before saying, "So I'm going to have to go another week with microwavable meals?" Karma laughed before taking another sip of her water.
"You know you could always do frozen dinners right?" Karma suggested and Christina made a face.
"I tried that and I ended up burning the pizza and almost setting the house on fire." Karma gaped at her making Christina get defensive. "What?"
"How do you burn frozen pizza?!"
"It's not that hard to do!" Christina replied. Karma rolled her eyes and shook her head.
"What would you do without me?"
"Probably starve to death." She exaggerates, and Karma rolls her eyes again. The two young women continue to make small talk until they finally decide to pay and leave.
The next morning Karma and Christina said goodbye and Karma got into the trademark black car and drove to the airport. She said goodbye to Jim and gave him a quick hug before running to get on her flight in time. The whole flight she sat there reading the Maze Runner series. When she got to Pennsylvania she quickly rented a hotel room for a week going under a different alias.
She went up to her room and brought her suitcase inside before laying down on the bed, just staring at the ceiling. She knew she had to scout out the town just in case but wanted to be lazy for a few minutes. After about ten minutes she groaned and got up, putting on her sunglasses with the camera on it.
She left the hotel and after locking her door she walked down the stairs and out the door, the sunshine warming her face. She allowed a smile to grace her face before heading down the street towards the warehouse where they were supposedly testing and hiding the weapons.
As Karma gets closer to the warehouse she observers her surroundings more and looks for hiding spots, potential lookouts, and checks the security around the warehouse. After snapping a couple pictures she continues walking away towards the nearest restaurant. When she gets there she takes off her sunglasses and sits down at one of the tables, making sure to have a visual on all of the exits.
"Hello my name is Bryan and I will be your waiter for tonight. May I get you anything to drink?" A young man about in his 20s with black hair and hazel eyes walks over to Karma's table and then gives a slight pause when he sees her. Feeling slightly nervous she orders a water and the waiter nods his head, walking away.
Karma waits about five minutes before the waiter comes back with her water and she orders a Caesar salad. While waiting Karma keeps a careful eye on her environment while writing. She wasn't even sure what she was writing about but it kept her from getting bored. When she had written about a page Bryan came back and handed her her food. She ate quickly before paying and leaving back to the hotel. Tomorrow was surveillance and she would need plenty of sleep.
