Hello! ^_^ Wow, I've actually managed to update fast for once! This is my ongoing apology for having you all wait so long for the last chapter :P

So this chapter I feel sucks again. No action really takes place, but I promise you it will get better! Promise. There will be a lot more action as the story progresses, it's just getting to that point. But, I hope you enjoy this chapter nonetheless. Oh, and I apologise for the large role Trixie plays in this chapter, she annoys me too don't worry, but, she was an essential extra which was needed for this story. She will be gone by next chapter, though! And I should mention, this story's gonna end up being super long. It has a long way to go yet, and I feel it'll go on quite a while. Good news if you like this kind of thing, but not so good if you're only into a quick read ^^

Oh and yes! Sonic ends up in a wheelchair again! Sorry, I couldn't resist xP Mwahaha. It's only temporary though... for now ;)

….

It had just gone 8:22pm, and the night sky was evidently drawing in, despite it still being mid Summer. The cold nip in the air was present. The ambulance had just arrived at the A&E department containing 2 brothers and nurse Trixie.

"We're here! Now Sonic, we've got to sign you in at reception, and then we will forward you onto a private ward where you will be sleeping tonight. Please don't worry about having to walk, we have a wheelchair at hand, so you won't have to hike all through the building." Trixie informed. Sonic listened carefully, although he was very tired, so it was hard to concentrate.

"Sure, ok..." He mumbled.

The driver, a lanky raccoon, opened up the ambulance doors, with a wheelchair already at hand. It was nothing flashy, just your regular hospital equipment. But, it was to do its job.

"Thank you." The nurse smiled. The ramp of the ambulance started to extend, and the raccoon pushed the wheelchair up to where Sonic and Tails were seated. Both still sat together.

"You think you'll be ok to get into the wheelchair by yourself, Sonic?" His brother questioned, turning his head to look at him.

"I can walk fine though." Sonic demanded, his slurred words now noticeably vanished, his voice was now a whole lot clearer, which was an improvement.

"Sonic, you can barely walk with aid, let alone walk 'fine' this is just until we get up into the room, that's all. Ok?" Tails explained.

Sonic simply rolled his eyes in annoyance, but he was too weak to put up a fight, he knew Tails could literally drag him into it if needs be, so it was no use carrying the argument on. He attempted to get onto his weak legs, both legs shook frantically and Tails quickly grabbed him to stop him from falling. Sonic's hands groped for the nearest wall, but Tails carefully guided him a couple of steps over to the wheelchair, letting go as Sonic positioned himself into it.

"Right then. We shall set off. I'll see you later!" Trixie informed to the driver, pushing Sonic's wheelchair into the 5 storey hospital building, and walked towards the A&E main entrance. Tails followed on behind and Sonic was leaning his right arm on the wheelchair handle, hand on his chin in annoyance. He felt like some old man, not a healthy teen.

Upon entering the building, they were instantly greeted by very sickly patients, doctors rushing to and fro rushing their trolley beds from room to room, and unloading patients from the ambulance bay, into emergency rooms in a very quick manner (they were a lot worse off than Sonic).

Trixie wheeled Sonic up to the reception desk, but there were a couple of people in front.

"Sonic. We're just going to need some details off of you, it won't take too long. Would you like me to fill it out for you, or will you be ok yourself?" The nurse enquired.

"I can fill in the form myself." The hedgehog responded bluntly. After all, he was not an invalid. He still had full use of his arms.

"Sure thing. If you find it too much, or get stuck on a question, just give me a shout." She spoke. Sonic simply nodded in response.

Tails was eyeing up his surroundings, taking in everything that was happening around them. There was a bear cub on a trolley, not too far from where they were standing. She was only little, and what appeared to be her parents were beside her. You could see their bloodshot eyes from crying so much. And the girl... she looked so sick. She was hooked up to machines from her to toe, heart monitor giving out unsteady rhythms, she was unconscious, and was the most unhealthy looking shade of purple.

Tails hated hospitals with a passion. And watching these kind of scenes unfold almost brought tears to his eyes. He wondered how doctors could stand having to deal with situations like these, and how they could stay strong through it all. Tails sighed.

Finally, it was their turn to be seen.

"Hello. This is Trixie, from the ambulance crew."

"Hello there." Greeted a male penguin."

"I have with me today a young gentleman going by the name of Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic has come here to have some tests done including a brain scan because he has just experienced a seizure this afternoon. To which he has never had one before, his legs are also abnormally unsteady, to the point he can barely stand. I have forwarded him into the private wing on 5th floor, because he is quite the celeb!"

"Uh-huh. I will just check by computer to see if he's ok to go up." The penguin informed. Ears were instantly met with the sounds of rapid keyboard typing. Within minutes, the Mobian responded. "Yep! Rooms's free to head on up. Do you think the patient will be able to fill in this form?"

"Yes. He has already informed me he would be ok to fill it in without assistance."

"Very well, here is the form." The penguin smiled, handing the form and a pen over to Trixie, and then over to Sonic.

Sonic silently filled out the form, eyes focused, sheet balanced on his crossed legs. He was writing a lot slower than usual, but that was ok. Tails and Trixie waited patiently at his side, the fox looking over to see if he was managing to fill it in correctly, but, he seemed to have no problems at all. Upon nearing completion of the form, Sonic suddenly dropped his pen and grabbed his left arm. Eyes wincing in pain.

"Nuugh" He groaned, leaning forward in his wheelchair, still grabbing hold of his arm.

"Sonic, buddy, are you ok?!" Tails cried, instantly bent down before Sonic with his hand reached up to the hedgehog's arm.

"That pain... in my arm... again..." He responded, eyes still winced in pain and you could see tears gathering in the corner of his squinted lids, quills sharpened, he was rubbing his arm now. Trixie watched the scene unfold, the worry grew stronger in her face, and the disease she had in the back of her mind growing more and more of a concern with every new symptom Sonic showed. She, of course, wouldn't let on about this worry at any cost. It wasn't part of her job description. And the tests could bring up something completely different.

After several minutes, the hedgehog finally let go of his arm, and lunged back in his chair, lifting his head up high, to look at the ceiling. He just kept staring into thin air, taking deep breaths. This was almost a sign of another seizure... Tails was still bent down in front of him, sending comfort to his brother by stroking his bad arm gently.

"You feeling better now. Sonic?" He asked, hoping to bring the hedgehog back to reality, and really did hope the pain had disappeared as quickly as it arrived. Sonic's head dropped back down, and he looked at Tails, giving him a vacant stare, and his face was deathly pale.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm ok. I'm sorry for scaring you." He answered, in a whispered tone. He was not well, and he really needed medical attention- fast.

"We'll take you straight onto the ward now, Sonic. Let me just fill out the last part of your form, and I will hand it in for you." Trixie explained. She took the form from Sonic's lap and quickly checked it over. Sonic's handwriting was terrible, very unkempt and messy, but she could just about make out what he had written, through his constant spelling mistakes and awful handwriting. He had filled in the form correctly and she quickly finished off the last couple of questions. She promptly handed it in, and returned to the two brother's.

"Are you feeling better now, Sonic?" She enquired, all the whilst giving a kind smile.

"Yes. Just a painful twang went through my arm, and it kept going all tingly like my legs... and they're tingly all the time. Happened the other day too." The hedgehog explained, looking up at the nurse from his chair.

"I'm sure once we run a few tests through we will be able to start you on whatever medication you may need to make a full recovery."

That didn't sound too bad, Tails thought to himself. It's almost as if she had an idea of what the hedgehog's condition may be and already looking down the road of treatment. But, it still didn't explain that image of worry she always seemed to wear on her face, albeit very lightly.

And with that, she grabbed Sonic's wheelchair handles and headed off into the direction of the nearest set of lifts. Sonic had a tight grip of both wheelchair arm rests, and he was very much slumped back in his chair. His stomach rumbled, which evidently meant he was hungry. Tails noticed this and smiled.

"Don't worry Sonic. As soon as we get to the ward, I'll grab us a couple of chilli dogs." He smiled.

"Gee thanks. I'm starved here!" The hedgehog admitted, having not eaten since this morning.

Upon traveling through the A&E department, the 3 Mobian's encountered many sickly patients. You could hear heart monitors bleeping by the dozen, trolley beds being rushed in and out of emergency rooms in a mass panic, and many anxious faces.

Finally. They had entered the lifts. They were much larger than your regular elevators, allowing much space for hospital beds and wheelchairs. The doors opened, and Trixie quickly wheeled Sonic inside, Tails following behind. Upon reaching the top, they had entered 5th floor, the top floor in the hospital. Being the world famous hedgehog that he was, Sonic had his own, private hospital room on top floor, away from everyone else, in an isolated corner. This was also used for celebrities, and special hospital patients. Within minutes, they reached ward 520.

"We're here! This is your own, private ward, Sonic. On this ward you will have the room to yourself. And there will be staff on hand 24/7 whenever you need it." Trixie informed.

Sonic instantly felt slightly concerned by the way the nurse was speaking... as if his stay was going to be prolonged. The frustration showed on his face, and Tails noticed this. Living with the hedgehog nearly all his life, he could read Sonic like a book, and knew how he was feeling, even when he doesn't audibly announce it.

And wow, what a room. It was massive, and real posh. It had its own reception desk with a couple of nurses already on hand, the hospital bed stuck out in the middle of the room, clean sheets adorned. Every piece of medical equipment you would ever need, was scattered around the spacely room, and it even had its own bed for visitors! There were 3 black leather sofas, 2 being on each side of the hospital bed. Despite Sonic's hatred of hospitals, he evidently looked impressed. Tails' mouth was wide in awe, looking around in every corner.

Sonic whistled. "Woah, this is real posh! I feel like some kind of super star." He snickered, grinning slightly in the process.

"Yeah. I think they've given you this room to stop you from running off when unassisted! I bet the security is good, too!" Tails joked, nudging his brother's arm lightly.

"Very funny."

"Hello, Sonic! We have been expecting you." A young, female nurse greeted. She appeared to be a deer, and was very attractive. She stood affront the 3 Mobian's.

"Hello, Maisie! How's things?" Trixie responded.

"Trixie! It's been a long time. It's been pretty hectic here. But, it keeps me on my feet." The nurse joked. Trixie laughed.

"Well then! I should start by introducing myself. I'm Maisie, and I'm a private duty nurse on this ward, over there is Daisy, and she also helps on this ward (to which, she waved). This room is completely set apart from the rest of the hospital, and only celebs like you get to use it!"

"I must say, it's real posh. Do we get our own personal security guards, too?" Sonic joked.

"Not quite." She laughed. "But, you will have everything you need to keep you entertained- laptop, video game consoles, TV/DVD combo, the works!"

"Hmm. Not bad. But I think you're missing one thing." Sonic winked.

"And it depends what that one thing may be!"

Tails already knew what his brother meant and rolled his eyes in question. He could be so embarrassing sometimes, and immature at that.

"Chiili dogs, for room service!"

Tails hand instantly went into a facepalm.

"Yes. Even chilli dogs for room service." Maisie added, with a smile. The two of them were getting on well already, to which the deer was pleased about, because it put Sonic at ease.

"Well then. I give this service 100/10! Not bad for hospital regulation." He giggled, giving a thumbs up.

"Sonic, you are so immature." Tails stated.

"I try!"

"Anyway! Sonic, I think it's about time I explain what we are going to be doing. I have received all details on your condition, however, I'm going to need to ask you some questions on your condition, just so we can be sure of every little detail which will be vital for a diagnosis. I will then run a couple of tests, we will give you an X-ray on your legs just to see if everything is ok as you mentioned you are very unstable on your feet (to which the hedgehog nodded his head), and, we will give you an MRI scan. If only to explain the seizure."

The look of discomfort spread to the hedgehog's face. It was a lot to take in, and it made him feel very uncomfortable. By the sounds of everything she explained it sounded like he was going to be stuck here a good few days. And being pent up on a hospital ward was going to be enough to send him round the bend. The discomforting look on his face must have been evident, for Maisie had already picked up on Sonic's anxiety.

"Don't worry, Sonic. You won't be here to long. We're going to let you rest tonight as it's getting late, and let you have your chilli dog as I'm sure you're starving by now!"

"You've got that right." Sonic spoke.

"Me too." Tails added.

"But tomorrow, we will get everything done and will have the results back by the following morning, by which, I'm sure you will be free to go home! Please try not to worry though Sonic, we're not monsters here, and if you find any of it discomforting we will by all means give you time out, and you can go have a chilli dog break!"

"I'll need it by the sounds of things!"

"I'm going to go order you your much deserved chilli dog, and for Tails here, who's been very good."

"Make mine with extra cheese!" Tails asked.

"Well, think I'm gonna go take position on the bed and wait for my room service!" He chuckled. And with that, Sonic attempted to remove himself from his seated position in the wheelchair, holding onto the arm rests as he made his way up slowly. Upon doing this, he nearly fell to the floor. The death grip of the wheelchair arm rests being his lifeline.

The hedgehog's sudden action startled Tails, for he was looking the other way, not paying full attention. Instantly he was at his side, wrapping his arm around his crippled brother.

"Don't worry. I've gotcha." Tails reassured, wrapping his arms around Sonic for support. He knew he was stubborn, and was by all means not going to be pent up in a wheelchair. The wobbliness of his legs seemed to be getting worse each and every time he stood, and that pang of worry grew larger every day in the little fox's heart.

"No. I'm fine! I can manage myself!" An alarmed hedgehog snapped. He gently tried to remove Tails' grip around his body, but the fox's grip was strong.

"You'll fall! I don't want to see you plummet to the ground! Please bro, don't be stubborn." He reassured, still keeping his grip of the hedgehog. However he would not stop in his struggles.

"I am not an invalid! Just let me go!" He cried, his quills bristled in annoyance, and surprisingly, there was a strong look of sadness in Sonic's large emerald eyes. Tails let Sonic go, but decided to keep a close distance in case he fell, so he could catch him before the worst happened. He felt slightly hurt by his brother's stern words, but, he understood. Sonic had always been stubborn, and lived for his independency. Plus, he was tired, and even showing evident sadness over everything's that's happening, so Tails understood.

Sonic looked terrified, yet determined to walk alone to his hospital bed. His eyes narrowed in determination, fists clenched. Tails wore a worried expression close by. Little by little, Sonic took tiny footsteps, one by one. His legs swayed significantly, you could see the muscles twitching and going haywire in his pencil thin legs, he swayed to the left, then to the right, his hands once again, spread out for support. The poor guy looked so frightened, and… hopeless. The two nurses left in the room decided to keep the distance. It was something Sonic needed to do on his own. But, you could see them talking quietly to one another, looking over to Sonic in the process, wearing worried expressions, full of sadness. This made chills run down Tails' spine.

He made it. On weak, shaky legs. Tails exhaled in relief and Sonic held onto the side of his bed with both hands, letting out a sigh of relief.

"See, told you I could do it!" He mocked to his brother, looking proud of himself. He'd always been one to love proving people wrong, showing that he was capable of just about anything.

"Well done." Tails simply answered, hugging his brother and giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Will you be ok to climb onto the bed on your own?"

"Tails!"

"Ok, ok! Forget I said anything."

With that said, the hedgehog slowly climbed up onto the high hospital bed, legs shaking slightly. It was almost as he was having muscle spasms every time pressure was put into them, Tails thought. He made it onto the bed without much of a problem, and Tails took a seat in the leather sofa beside him.

Trixie made her way over to Sonic's bed side.

"Well Sonic, I'm going to head off now. Maisie has headed down to the cafeteria to get you and Tails a chilli dog, and will be back soon. I hope the tests go well for you." The rabbit smiled.

"Thanks for everything, Trix. I owe ya one." Sonic responded, thumbs up in the process.

"Yeah, miss. Thank you. You helped me a lot today also." Tails admitted, smiling.

With a smile, Trixie headed on out the room. Waving back with a smile as she existed the door. Both brother's waved back.

The following day was going to be exhausting for Sonic, but by the following morning after, they were to have the results back for Sonic's mysterious condition, and get to the bottom of it. Little did they know what they were going through now was only the start.
