Managing to get away and appear he was following Maya to her house without alerting the human girl of doing that, Kurama took off quickly down an alleyway. He adjusted his backpack straps, fixing them so they would not be in his way if he needed the range of motion. Now, he thought with relish, to find this other soul like him. Jogging, his small feet made their way quickly through this alleyway and then he took a right on a street for a small time. A couple of alleyways later, he ducked back into one. It didn't look like they lived in a human dwelling at this point.
Cautious, he slowed and eyed the dim surroundings, taking in a whiff. No faint smell stood out to him as unusual and he steadily made his way to what felt like the source. Two years had passes since he noted the other soul. Chances were he was looking for someone who appeared a child between just over one to two years depending on when they entered a mother's womb. He kept his eyes peeled for anyone older as well, knowing someone had to be looking over a child that age typically.
However, this alleyway seemed strangely devoid of any significant presences. He just saw walls, boxes, garbage, the litter scattering the ground. The largest living thing seemed to be a spatting cat that tore off as he peered into the box it had been napping inside. Well, living things beside him.
The energy moved toward him and he crouched down defensively. He could feel it move past him, then hover. A small piece of air gleamed and he threw some dust from the pavement at it. A round globe shimmered, shifting through a few colors (gold, green, blue, purple, and red) and then disappeared from existence. He paled. Whoever it was, put up the energy decoy and did the surveillance on him. Kurama glanced quickly about, straining his ears and listening for the other, desperately needing to discover the other. They knew he was coming. They had sensed him despite lowering his energy and hiding it as he had been constantly doing as a human. Not to mention the practice he had in his demon body before he had this human one.
Yet they had known he was coming.
He criticized himself for being careless and sure, when dealing with this other soul. He had no true guess of their abilities and he had jumped so quickly to discover that he found himself lacking.
And his human mother was nearing the school building.
Taking as many twists, turns, and back tracking as possible…Kurama hurried away, not sure if he lost the other soul or if the other soul was near or bothered to follow. Unnerved, he spun about for a different route and arrived at the park.
"Hey Shuichi!"
Alarmed at his human name being called out, Kurama whipped around. Maya waved cheerfully at him as she took her turn at the slide. A foreign child roughly her age followed, twisting about to avoid her at the bottom. The foreign child glanced curiously over at Kurama with wide European eyes, blue, then looked back to Maya before dashing back to the ladder. Maya bounced over to him.
"I thought you lived farther from school. Are you still waiting for your mother?"
He nodded once. "Yes."
"Did you want to play while you wait?"
"No thanks," he said a bit stiffly. After having their earlier discussion and he agreeing to play normal child already once today? No. And he feared what else may develop if she had another moment like today with him. Her spiritual energy and awareness could become stronger near the presence of his. It was already forming due to this other soul.
Kurama gained another annoyance at this other soul, wondering if there would be any other issues to arise near him in the future. Pity the other soul made it. He may have to remove them if they were already causing him problems and a signal for something more in this area. It could potentially garner spirit world interest at some point.
Maya had already taken his answer and rejoined the foreign child on the playground. Kurama refocused on his surroundings, surveying the other child with the material of clothing and face lines carefully. Covered with clothes and baby fat, he had a slight trouble determining that the child was a boy. His dirty blonde hair was to shoulder blades, considered a more female length in the human world. If he hadn't directed proper attention, he could have mistaken the child as a young girl. The difference of race threw him.
The pair was the only two on the playground, but as Kurama swiveled his focus about the area, he spotted a few high school uniforms cutting through the park. Where did the other soul go, Kurama pondered. Was he never followed or the other one not even there near that energy sphere? A scent caught his attention, not surprising with older humans, but it did not come from any of the older teenagers disappearing from the park. Faded and washed, the smell lingered. Kurama's eyes found the form of the foreign boy running around the merry-go-round, pushing a laughing Maya on it.
He sniffed. And humans thought they were so above demons. Doubtful.
He didn't change the fact that young child reeked of sex.
"Shuichi! There you are," called a warm voice brightly. Kurama turned to see his human mother walking toward him, noticing the other two human children near him. Hope. "Did you want to play with them a little longer Shuichi? I can wait."
"No. That's okay mother. Let's go home."
He saw her face wilt in disappointment, but he hardly cared. Kurama would be polite, but he had no intensions of making connections—false or true—during his brief time as a human. She now had seen him wander off, perhaps now he should start disappearing at times to get his human parents used to it, to not make a huge stir when he finally left them for good. It'd do him well to patrol the area. Take control and rid the area of any demons or spiritually inclined humans causing a fuss that could spell his end as he gained strength.
"Oh! See you at school tomorrow Shuichi!"
He waved back at his human cling on without looking at her. His human mother smiled a bit. Humans. She could see what she wanted. He had no intentions of being more than a classmate to that girl, even if she clearly considered him a so called 'friend'.
