Jay didn't tell her this, but Nya was horrible at video games. He thought she would have some hidden talent, seeing as she was the sister of Kai Igneous, video game fanatic when they were seven, but Jay killed her nearly every time. He let her win a couple times to to be kinda fair, but other than that she lost every round.

Jay cooked one of his own personal recipes for dinner that night, a delicious quiche that was surprisingly good despite its spinach and sausage fillings. Jay smiled when Nya complimented him on his food.

Nya then resigned to her room. Jay had all of her items transported from the hospital to his house. In a non-stalker way, he looked through her phone. She had an ancient flip phone that all you could do on it was make calls. It made Jay want to puke. Slowly, he searched through it. There wasn't even a contacts section! Jay sighed. He had wanted to call Kai or Nya's parents and tell them what happened, but he didn't have their numbers! He could always drive to Ignacia, but where did they live? It's very likely for a person to move in a span of fifteen years. He sorta knew where they had lived all those years ago, but they probably didn't live there anymore. Jay held his head in his hands and placed the cell phone back in Nya's bags, carrying them all up to her room himself. When all else fails, go to the drawing board.

Jay knocked on Nya's door and she opened it. He gave her all of her things and said, "Here. Um, do you for any odd reason remember any phone numbers?"

Nya shook her head. "No, sorry. Are you trying to contact my family?"

Jay rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah, trying. Do you remember anything at all that might help me?"

Nya thought for a moment, then said, "No, sorry."

"Ok, then. Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

The door closed and Jay walked into his room. He breathed a sigh of relief as an old, musty smell hit his nose. His room was the smallest room in the entire house, including bathrooms. All he had in it was a worn-down mattress and a dusty bedside table with three pictures on it. No technology was allowed in this room, just normal, everyday stuff. A small, wooden dresser threatened to topple over onto the hard concrete floor, but Jay didn't care. It was just like his bedroom in the junkyard. He plopped down onto his bed and pulled a woolen blanket oven him. Hard springs bent and creaked under Jay's body, but he found that this was the only way he could sleep.

Although tonight he couldn't sleep. Too many things were running through his head. Deep in the back of his mind, he saw a glimmering hope. Memories are locked and stored in the brain cells, right? When amnesia occurs, it causes those brain to go dormant for a while. What if he could create a machine that would scan and interpret the signals the memory cells were trying to send? Was it possible that he could then help Nya regain her memories?

Caught in a flash of burning genius, Jay ran out of his small room and bounded up the stairs to his lab. Ah, the lab. This was his true home. It was very cluttered with scrap pieces and blueprints. Before he did anything, Jay ran over to a machine covered in a dusty tarp. Carefully lifting it off, he revealed his best creation yet. Zane. The robot looked like he was asleep standing up. He had blonde army cut hair and wore simple white clothes. Hurriedly, Jay opened his chest panel and flipped the power switch. Zane's eyes opened, glowing a brilliant blue for a moment before dying down. "Hello, Jay Walker. How are you today?"

"Great, thanks." Jay studied Zane. Nothing seemed to be out of order good. "How do you feel? Does anything feel wrong?"

"No, my diagnostics test has run without any major errors."

"Major?" Jay asked. "Well, I care about the minor errors too. Is there anything that needs fixing?"

"My CPU seems to be running a but slower than usual. Not much, only exactly one tenth of a nanosecond," Zane said in a monotone voice. "Is that something to be concerned about?"

"Nah, just let me know if it gets worse." Jay grabbed a pen and a blank piece of blueprint paper. "Quick question, Zane. Do you think it's possible to create a machine to restore an amnesic person's memories?"

Zane's ice blue eyes flashed momentarily before he reported, "If you have the technology, I suppose."

"Great." Placing pen to paper, Jay got started.

Who was the spiky-haired boy? He reappeared in Nya's dreams again. He was a real pain. She somehow knew she knew him, but she didn't know how. It was very bothering. It was like when you know someone's name and it's on the tip of your tongue, but you can't remember it for the life of you.

Nya hated those moments.

After she woke up the next morning, Nya walked down the spiral staircase to the kitchen. She almost died of laughter at what she saw there. Jay was laying face-down on the table, his cheek on a slab of toast smothered in jelly. He was snoring loudly. "Jay?" Nya tried, tapping him on the shoulder. Her jerked up suddenly, beautiful blue eyes wide in panic. Nya had another laughing fit. Purple jelly was smeared across his cheek. "Are you all right?" she asked through giggles.

"Yeah." Jay wiped the jelly from his face with a napkin, suppressing a chuckle himself. "Must be more tired than I thought."

"Did you not sleep well?"

Jay shook his head. "Nah, just pulled an all-nighter working."

Now Nya was curious. "Working on what?"

Jay grinned slyly. "If it works, it's a surprise." He put a pair of sunglasses over his blue eyes and threw away his paper plate without eating his toast.

"Why do you wear sunglasses?" Nya asked. "Your eyes are gorgeous. There's no reason for you to hide them."

"Just habit I guess." Jay shrugged. "I've worn them ever since I moved here fifteen years ago. I was always picked on for looking different than everyone else.

"Oh. I'm sorry."

"It's fine. Whatever, right?" Jay smiled. "The past is the past. So, did any memories come back last night?"

Nya thought hard. "No, although a man with spiked up hair keeps appearing in my dreams. I feel like I know him or something."

Jay froze. He was thinking, Nya noted. Did he know the mysterious man? "That doesn't help too much," he said slowly. "Anyone can spike up their hair with gel." He studied Nya silently for a moment, then said, "How would you like a new phone?"

"What?"

Jay blushed heavily. "I was looking through your phone last night. Not in a stalker way, but I wanted to see if you had any relatives' numbers in it or something. I realized that your phone is from, like, five years ago. You need a serious upgrade. I mean, that piece of garbage can't even text! So I am going to give you a complimentary jPhone 6, not even out to the public yet." He pulled a sleek model out of his pocket and handed it to Nya, who took it quickly. Did she seriously just get a jPhone instead of her stupid dumb phone? "I made sure it has your old number, just in case someone you know calls you. You can download apps, text, surf the web, anything!" Jay chuckled slightly. "If there's anything it can't do, let me know."

"Thank you so much!" Nya hugged Jay hard, her new phone grasped tightly in her hand. She let go of him to see that the inventor's face was bright red.

"Y-you're welcome," he stuttered, planting a goofy grin on his face.

Nya started walking back up to her room to see what this new phone had in store, when Jay grabbed her arm.

"Nya, wait," he ordered. She stopped walking and waited.

"Yes, Jay?"

He looked as if he was about to say something, but only said, "Enjoy."

Complete, finally! I meant for this chapter to sound kinda awkward. Jay's starting to try to get in contact with Nya's family. Next chapter, we will get in contact with Kai to see how he's doing! There's only going to be one or two more chapters to this, as it's supposed to be a short story.

Review! Questions, comments, concerns, flames, hate, love, complaints, death threats, or just plain old praise!
