Chapter 4 – date night
It was an average Tuesday at the Institute. Isabelle was torturing her, or 'giving her a makeover' she had so angrily put it, as Clary flicked through her demonology book. "I don't know why you're always re-reading that thing, you must know every word off by heart now."
"Because I like to brush up on the weak spots, I did just start training 2 years ago you know. You guys got like 11 years of this stuff".
There was a quiet squeal as Clary jumped off her seat and spun around, staring into black eyes, showing as much fake anger as she could muster. "Stop it!" she yelled, as she lurched forward to grab a fist full of dark hair, letting her inner child take the reins.
"Clary! That hurt!" Izzy scowled, jumping back just in time to avoid a heel in the toe. "I'm not done sit back down."
"but iv been sitting here for hours," Clary complained, "I'll do my own makeup, you faff too much." And with that, she scurried out her room and into Jace's before Isabelle captured her again and tied her to a chair. As soon as the lock was turned, the wood began to shake.
"Clarrissa Adele Fairchild, get out here right now or by the angel, I will kick this door down! You take forever to apply your own makeup". Clary sank down the wooden frame and laughed to herself. The other girl's sulky tone was suddenly smothered by approaching footsteps.
"Stop being such a bully Izzy, you've been torturing the poor girl since she got here," said a familiar voice from the other side of the door. With twice the speed of a mundane, Clary was up tugging at the handle.
"Jace! my hero, my savior!" she smiled and jumped at him dramatically, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Clary, hi" he chuckled into the crook of her neck.
"Ugh," Izzy said pretending to be sick, "whatever guys but just remember you need to be out those doors in 5" she said pointily in Clary's direction before sashaying away in her 7-inch heels.
Laughing, Clary turned her attention back to Jace, who was smiling back fondly. "Your laugh is so beautiful". She untangled her hands and walked back into Jace's room.
"Don't be so mushy". She crinkled her nose at him through the mirror before returning her attention to the image in front of her. "what do you think of this dress, I mean, I like it but, it's a bit.. tight? You know Isabelle's clothing style. Lucky I went with her or I would be wearing lingerie to the club" she twirled to give Jace a better view and let her curls fly.
Suddenly there were hands around her waist, she leaned against him, her head under his chin. "I would have preferred the lingerie" he whispered while biting her ear lobe.
"sure you would of" she whispered back, "although she did make me wear those one you like so much. You know" she turned so she was facing him with her palms flat on his chest, "the ones made of black lace, with little bows on my hips. Last time you saw them your expression told me you loved them" she looked into his eyes, as they swam with lust, "or was I mistaken?"
"Oh, no Clary. You most certainly were not." he growled tugging her closer and grabbing her bum. The butterflies fluttered in the pit of her stomach.
She jumped before leaning closer, just brushing his nose against hers, "that's good, wouldn't want you seeing something you didn't like now would we?" she whispered, reflecting his smirk.
"Clary" he whimpered squeezing her hips a little tighter than before, "stop now or you won't be wearing them anymore" pleading in his eyes, along with desperation.
"who said that's not what I want?" she said biting her lip. Seeing the look in his eyes, she winked then started laughing, "you're so easy to toy with, Jace". She said while twirling back to the 1900's style mirror to straighten herself out.
"but seriously," she began, her expression back to normal, "I want to know what you think".
He smiled at her, "you'd be beautiful in a bin bag Clary" he laughed, "let's go Alec's waiting outside".
She took one more glance in the mirror, she was wearing a short black dress covered in lace. The sleeves were also lace, although they were see through, showing some of her new-fangled runes. She was considerably taller in these heels, colored a deep velvet red, they also made her legs look long and model-like 'just like your mother' she thought.
"makeup" she reminded herself pointing a finger to the ceiling, turning around to apply it, before she skipped out the room. She settled on a thin layer or eyeliner, accompanied with plump red lips. Just to be sure, she slipped a dagger into the holder against her thigh, skipping the jacket.
"Izabelle! I see you brought your friends" the fair haired stranger yelled over the music. He eyed Clary, it made her feel like her skin was crawling, he was familiar but in a really uncomfortable way.
"yes, I did!" Izzy grinned turning around to introduce the rest of them, her poker straight hair flying in the process as she pushed away from the bar, throwing an arm around the stranger. "this is Alec, my brother," Alec waved awkwardly, then shuffled to the back of the group, "this is my adopted brother," Jace send a signature smirk his way. it was Clary's turn, "and finally, this is Clary, Jocelyn Fairchild's daughter".
"Jocelyn's famous daughter, people take about you often, you are well known through out the downworld. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." he said kissing her hand while performing an excellent bow. His speech was oddly formal for a club.
"Nice to meet you too, though you seem to know more about me than I know of you", she laughed uneasily.
"Well, I think we can do something to change that. Care for a drink?" he stretched his arm out her way. It was covered in tattoos, not runes, a large dragon crawling up one arm. Although upon second glance the tattoo seemed to move around his arm like it was real. Clary blinked away. What was up with that?
"I like your tats" Jace shouted over the sound of drunken people and bad music. He took the hand offered to Clary firmly, and shook it, "I'm Jace, by the way. I think Isabelle forgot to mention that"
"well, Jace," his laugh was cold and distant now, "I'm Eltri, now Clary how about that drink?", yet again stretching a hand in Clary's direction, this time with his eyes on Jace.
"I will be there in one second, I just need to go freshen up" she smiled then turned, desperately searching for the exit, she felt a hand on her shoulder and relaxed.
"let's go get some air", the words flowed through the air in a silky whisper, barely audible, but she heard it loud and clear. A soft grip was placed on her waist, slowly guiding her through the mass of bodies, towards the door.
Once they were outside, Clary leant back against the wall and closed her eyes, gulping down the air. Happy to be in control of her buzzing brain again.
"do you know that guy?" she asked finally opening her eyes, taking in the sight of Jace, she couldn't be certain if it was the sudden rush of cold air, or the 5 shots Izzy gagged her with the moment her hand touched the bar, but she felt strange, oddly empowered. People knew who she was. Granted that 'person' and 6ft of tall blonde and creepy, but he was still a person who didn't look straight through her.
"Yeah," Jace said leaning against the wall next to her, "well technically no but I've heard of him before. he was like me before I met you."
"what? Mysterious and brooding?" she said wiggling her eye brows at him.
"ha-ha, you think you're so funny fray", he muttered in a mocking tone while attacking her sides with his fingers as she giggled and squirmed under his touch. Suddenly he stopped and looked at her, amusement evident in his eyes, "I'm going to have to stop calling you that", he pulled her flush against him, "you'll be Herondale soon" he whispered.
"Oh god" she groaned, closing her eyes once more, and smacking her head against the wall. she had forgotten about that completely. She would have to plan an entire wedding. Isabelle, her mother, Maryse, all wanting to be a part of it. All wanting some special role. She couldn't invite people from her past so all the guest would be relatively new to her life. She had no idea what she would do for bridesmaids, or even if Shadowhunters had them.
She opened her eyes to see Jace in utter dispair. he didn't think that was pointed at him, Did he? "Do Shadowhunters have bridesmaids?" the words seemed to burst out before she could stop herself.
His face completely changed. "What?" Jace said, startled.
"well went we get married I want to know if I can have bridesmaids. You see, I don't want to upset anyone but not asking them, but I also don't want to look like a fool if I ask, then can't have them." She stated.
He put his head on her shoulder, "trust you to worry about everybody else". He beamed at her with all the love in the world. "come on Mrs. Future-Herondale". Grabbing her hand, gently pulling her towards the door.
Only for it to fly outwards and into the side of a now destroyed trash can. "what the..." Jace already had a seraph blade in hand. She couldn't remember him lighting it but it was ablaze with the same magic that swam through her veins.
She slipped the small blade out of its sheath. "Ramiel" she whispered cautiously as she entered the barren doorway. This was going to be a long night.
There you go. What did you think?
What do you want to happen?
Also who the heck is Eltri, he seems weird.
Thoughts, opinions, and suggestions are not only welcome but required thnx
Hasta la vista babies
