Mike would have screamed if he had the energy or the breath left in his body, but there was nothing. He knew the voice but he couldn't see the face or the silhouette it belonged to and with the amount of shock he was in he couldn't think clearly to work out who it was.

At least, that was until a furry paw clasp the edge of the desk, eyes lighting the underside of it. Mikes breathing increased to the point he'd started making peculiar noises. There was movement in the door way as the paw on the desk moved closer to Mike.

Mike moved back as far as he could hoping that the wall was going to somehow open up and eat him. The thought of that happening gave Mike an idea. He knew there were vents somewhere in this room but he wasn't sure how high they were or where they actually led. Mike didn't get chance think about where exactly they were positioned to try and make a break for it as a paw grabbed hold of him, dragging him out.

Mike wanted to scream but anything he wanted to yell or scream was trapped in his throat. He had no idea who had gotten hold of him but he was sure, once again, that he was going to die. After being dragged out from under the desk, leaving the tablet under there, he was pulled o his feet and felt the paw rest on his shoulder. He thought it was to make certain he didn't try and run again. If he wasn't going to be killed and the animatronics were telling the truth in the first place, he was convinced he'd messed up now.

Mike found himself staring off into the darkness, waiting for the sharp pains welcoming his slow death. This, however, never came. Instead he was pulled into reality again by someone calling his name. Blinking he saw that there was now some light in the room, it wasn't the main set of lights but more of a backup system he'd never known about but that wasn't surprising.

The paw on his shoulder he now found to belong to Bonnie, the pink rabbit looking at him with deep concern. Looking over his shoulder he saw Freddy, sharing a similar look on his face matching Chica who was stood in the same door way she had been trying to get through.

He began to look round quickly trying to find the missing animatronic.

"Don't worry Michael, Foxy's gone to fix the power. You honestly didn't think that this place would do it, did you?" Freddy spoke with a small smile.

For some reason, Mike felt himself relax slightly although it wasn't like he was told he was going to go home and live a lovely life or anything, he was still certain he was going to die.

"Are you quite alright Mike? You did take off quite frantically." Bonnie asked.

"Yes, you did. You frightened me!" Chica admitted.

Mike smirked a little. Him, frightening one of the animatronics, now that was something that was unheard of. Well, not quite. He'd probably frightened them when he'd hit Foxy with the door a few times in the past.

Mike fumbled over his answer to them, trying to find the right words, "Erm…yes….I…erm..I mean, I didn't….well I did…but I…You can't blame me….sorry."

The animatronics glanced from one to the other before Bonnie hushed him.

"Mike, it's okay. It must have been confusing and daunting. It must still be really." He tried to reassure him, which he did a little.

"I should have thought of that before...I apologise Michael." Freddy began, "I don't think very much when it comes to safety, I just act and we still need to give you something to eat. We're not going to hurt you Mike. Not anymore."

Mike thought it ironic that the bear considered safety so highly thinking of what they had been trying to do to him throughout the entire time he had been working there. As Freddy finished speaking, Mike looked round the others, including Foxy who had managed to catch what Freddy was saying.

The looks they all wore seemed like he was telling the truth, he thought he could something else in Bonnie's expression, admiration possibly, but that couldn't be right.

"It's nearing on six, we should go to the kitchen and get you something to eat before you go." Chica spoke up.

"Aye, that we should. Can't have ye fadin' away after all everythin'" The captain agreed from the opposite door way.

"And no running this time!" Chica chuckled, "C'mon let's go."

With that she lead the way to the kitchen, everyone following her. Mike wandered down corridors he'd seen so many times on the cameras, glancing up and down them getting a better idea of how the animatronics had all managed to hide from him. It wasn't until they were nearing the kitchen when he realised Bonnies paw hadn't moved from his shoulder. Glancing back at him, Bonnie smiled gently when realisation hit him too. He bashfully removed his paw from his shoulder muttering what mike was sure was a sorry, under his breath.

Arriving in the kitchen, Chica practically skipped off towards one of the ovens in the room, Freddy and Foxy chuckling as she did so.

"I hope you can still eat pizza after working her for so long!" Chica called over to Mike, who's attention had turned to the floor, "I know you didn't serve it or anything but you never know…events could have put you off."

Mike looked up at her and answered, "No, yeah, no, no, pizza's good."

Chica giggled at the response, the others smiling at him. She pulled a large pizza from one of the ovens and placed a few slices on a plate and held it out for him to take.

"I'm sorry it won't be very warm, the ovens haven't been on for a while." She apologised.

Mike hesitated slightly to collect the plate from her but forced his feet to move, trying to regain control over his mind and body.

"Cold pizza is the best, thank you" Mike said quietly as he took the plate causing Chica's smile to widen.

Bonnie pulled a chair form the side of the room and pushed it to a table in the back of the room.

"Employee's sometimes sit in here rather than going to the staff room, it's just easier." He said glancing at the seat, signalling it was for Mike.

Walking quietly across the room, Mike sat at the table and began to nibble the pizza while the others moved a few trays around the kitchen to the dishwasher. Bonnie pulled a few more chairs across the room to join Mike, sitting facing him.

Mike didn't look up too often, not really sure what to say. He didn't really eat with anyone anymore and with him sleeping all day to work all night, Mike wasn't the most sociable person. He glanced up as Freddy and Foxy sat at the table, Chica leaning between Freddy and Bonnie placing a glass on the table, pushing it towards Mike.

By this time, Mike had eaten a slice of pizza and glanced at the glass.

"It's water, nothing exciting but it's the best thing for you right now." She explained.

Mike made and 'o' with his mouth, smiling slightly at her then taking a sip from the glass.

"Feelin' any better?" Foxy asked.

Mike nodded gently answering, "yes, thank you."

All the animatronics smiled at his answer.

"Good. Now, would you like to explain what on earth made you try to run off like you did? I understand that there was a sudden change in our attitudes and I don't expect you to become best friends with us immediately but if we had wanted you dead we wouldn't have hesitated before." Freddy questioned as if it was life's biggest question.

Mike stopped nibbling at the second slice of pizza, which he had managed to eat half of, placing it on the plate, running his thumbs across his fingertips. Swallowing the food thickly, he looked up at the faces of the animatronics, all of them watching him curiously.

Taking a breath Mike opened and closed his mouth. He wasn't sure what to say. He couldn't tell them the truth, they might not ever want anyone know what happened in 1987 even if he wasn't involved, he knew the girl and his friend died because of what happened to her. That part he could tell them.

"I…well…I was thinking….I just got lost in thought and one thing led to another and I couldn't help but thinking of the past and I just assumed horrid things because I mean, like you said everything changed so quickly and I couldn't think straight and…"Mike babbled out all at once.

"It's okay Mike. We're not mad at you." Bonnie cut him off, smiling gently at him from across the table, "We're not going to hurt you anymore, or even try to."

The more Mike was told that, the more he was able to believe them. Maybe, what happened in 1987 was an accident and there was a perfectly logical explanation for it…although he's not sure there could have been one for them trying to kill him for the entire time he worked there.

Mike smiled back at Bonnie and took another deep breath in, trying to calm his suddenly erratic nerves.

"I used to live in a house with two other people, my friend and his girlfriend. They were both lovely but they argued a lot. There was one argument one day that got out of control and then…everything just happened so fast…she...stabbed him to death in front of me in the kitchen…." Mike began.

"And you thought that's what we were going to you?" Chica asked.

Mike smiled slightly and nodded, keeping his head down ashamed that he'd even thought that.

"It was just a…a…I….I thought that….I don't know." Mike stuttered trying to figure out what to say.

The animatronics faces softened as Mike lowered his head a little more. The poor night guard couldn't have been older than 25 and from the section of his past they'd heard about and then them terrifying him every night, he sounded like he'd had a hard life.

Chica walked round to Mike and put her hand on his shoulder speaking gently, "It's alright Mikey, we understand. It was an instinct."

The others nodded at him from across the table.

Before anyone could say another word there were chimes ringing throughout the building, making everyone but Freddy jump.

"6am already huh? Time sure does fly when an adventure does be at hand….hook" Foxy commented standing up, making the others snigger.

"Yeah, it looks that way I guess we'd better get to our places." Bonnie followed Foxy's lead, smiling at Mike.

"C'mon then! Let's go!" Chica spoke, leaning round Mike to move his water and plate before he could, winking at him.

Mike couldn't help but smile at her, nodding in thanks, and standing up too.

"You three go to your places and I'll follow in a moment." Freddy instructed politely to the others.

They nodded once at him and said their goodbyes to Mike calling out how they'd see him later. Mike felt his heart and stomach jump at this. It had been years since anyone had said something like that to him. Even if they we're people, it still meant something to him although he wasn't sure why.

He looked at Freddy to find him musing over him before gesturing for him to start walking.

"Ermm…Freddy?" Mike began quietly as he walked down the hall to pick up his things from the office.

"Yes?" Freddy responded.

"Thank you."

"For what exactly?"

"…ermm…well….." Mike stuttered trying to find the best way to word what he meant.

Freddy couldn't help but chuckle at the young guard, watching him scurry about in the office they quickly arrived in.

"For not killing you?" Freddy questioned.

"…yeah." Mike muttered.

"Michael?"

Mike looked up from picking his tablet up, waiting for what the bear had to say.

"We will see you later, night guard." Freddy smiled, and with that he walked off leaving the young guard to take himself out.

Mike was sure that wasn't what Freddy was going to say but he wasn't about to question it, especially when he didn't really have an idea what he could have said. He was so drained from the night all he wanted was to go home.

While walking to the front door, Mike could see the animatronics taking their places, waving at him as he turned a corner for the front door. He wasn't so sure he should go back tonight….what if they tried to kill him again? He guessed he'd better keep his wits about him when the night came; he still had nothing better to do with his life.

Mike felt a wave of depression hit him again as the front door swung open and a suit clad man stepped in.

"Good morning Michael!" He greeted as he passed by.

"Morning Mr F." Mike mumbled back, before pressing the door open wider for him to get through.

At least this time, he could go straight home.
