Sorry it took me forever to update!! Anyway, I will be starting a new story soon so look out for that. Also, read my other story Let The Music Play!! Thanks for all the awesome reviews!!!
I had driven the car on and on till I found myself at a dead end. Ahead of me was a forest, so I got out of the car and decided to go hunt. At least it would be something to pass time. I didn't have any idea of how long I would be out here- I just needed time to clear my head.
I shot into the forest and picked up the scent of a couple of deer grazing nearby. Wasting no time, I attacked the bigger one right away, draining it of its blood, and then chasing and taking down the second one.
I had dripped a little bit of blood on my shirt, and I knew Esme would scold me for that later, so I found a nearby stream and took of my shirt. I rinsed it, making sure all the blood was washed away. Then I hung it on the branch of a nearby tree to let it dry. I sat down below the tree, to think.
Honestly, I didn't know what to make out of it. I had been a vampire for more than 90 years, and I had never found a scent so appealing. Just the faintest whiff of Bella's scent drove me over the edge, filled me with thirst, longing. She made me want to massacre a class of over 30 children- just to taste her blood.
But here, away from Bella, surrounded by the trees and plants, it was hard to believe that she affected me like this. How could she, a mere girl, make me leave my family?
After my shirt was dry, I put it back on and started running aimlessly through the trees. The feel of the wind through my hair was so good. It was exhilarating, to run so fast. I spent a couple of more days like that, doing nothing and hunting when I got bored. I began to feel restless, and decided it was time to go back home. I had convinced myself that I had blown the whole problem about Bella's blood out of control. Plus, Esme would be worrying about me.
I ran back to wear I had parked the car, started it and drove back the way I came. Within no time, I was reaching the boundaries of Forks. I accelerated and got home quickly. The second I had braked and got out of the car, Esme was out of the house and had thrown herself at me.
"You will never, ever do that again!" She wailed. I winced at her pain and patted her soothingly on the back.
"Sorry Esme," I mumbled.
"It's fine, I guess. Just don't do it again," she warned sternly. I nodded sheepishly.
"Hi, Edward." Alice descended the front porch steps. 'How have you been?' she asked silently.
"Fine." I said. I walked past her with Esme into the house where everyone else was assembled.
"Good to see you back, Edward," Emmett greeted, slapping my playfully on the back.
I winced and rubbed my back. "You too, Emmett."
"Alice explained why you left," Rosalie said haughtily. She glared at me from where she sat on the sofa. "How pitiful that you are affected so much by a human," she added scornfully. I glared back at her.
"Edward," Carlisle began. "Are you sure you can handle going back to school?" He asked worriedly. "Alice informed us of your decision to go back. Maybe you should rethink it if you are having trouble adjusting to the girl's scent."
"I think it will be okay," I said slowly. "I'll be careful around her… And plus, its only one class which I have to sit through. I think I'll be okay."
"That's fine then," Carlisle said. I nodded at him and the others then ran upstairs to my room to have a shower.
I washed the dirt from spending days in the forest of me and then came outside and dressed jeans and a shirt. I put a CD in the player and closed my eyes, relaxing on the sofa. I was like that for the rest of the day and night, just listening to Yanni's gentle playing.
When it was 6:30 am, I turned of the player and changed my clothes. Then I took my books and went downstairs. After a while, the others joined me and we left for school. Alice chattered about some new sale in Seattle the whole way there, which she and Rose were planning to go to. When we reached the parking lot I slid into a parking space and turned off the ignition. Taking my bag, I slid out of the Volvo and shut the door.
The first half of the day passed uneventfully. Today was the first snowfall, so everyone was excited for it. Jasper, Emmett and I had a quick snowball fight before lunch, as Alice said it would stop snowing soon. We were soaked in water when we sat down with Rosalie and Alice in the cafeteria.
Alice and Rosalie were trying to stop us from getting them wet, when I heard Bella's name mentioned. I looked towards her, to find her looking at me. Embarrassed, she looked away. I turned my attention back to my siblings.
"Have you heard from Tanya lately?" Alice asked light heartedly.
"No," I scowled. "Have you?"
"She called while you were away," Rosalie informed me. "She wanted to know where you were, and was unhappy when we couldn't tell her."
"She doesn't have to know everything I do," I said through my teeth.
"True. But she likes you a lot, you know. I don't see why you don't feel the same way."
"I don't have any feelings for her, and I don't have to explain why to you. She can feel however she wants, though it would be best if you didn't encourage her."
Rosalie shrugged. "Fine then. But remember, she's my friend."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked, a little angrily.
"Don't hurt her," she replied fiercely.
"How would I hurt her? It's not like we're in a relationship or anything."
"She thinks you are."
"Well I'm sorry to inform you," I said sarcastically. "That we're not." I got up, leaving my tray and stalking out of the cafeteria at a normal, human pace.
I decided to go directly to the Biology classroom. Class would be starting in a few minutes anyway; there was no point in going anywhere else.
The bell rang a few minutes after I went to the Biology class. I was already seated and looking out the window when I smelt her. She had entered the class. I took deep, controlled breaths and fought to compose my expression. Then I heard her sit next to me. I turned to face her.
"Hello," I said pleasantly. "I'm Edward Cullen; sorry I didn't get a chance to introduce myself the other day. You must be Bella Swan."
"How did you know?" She asked, her deep brown eyes staring into mine.
"Everyone knows your name," I chuckled.
"Yeah…" She trailed off and blushed. It looked so beautiful, the light pink tingeing her cheeks.
Mr. Banner called the class to order and Bella swept her hair over her shoulder to create a curtain between us. Her scent hit me hard again, and I balled my hands into fists.
We were doing mitosis. I had done this lab so many times, and I already knew the answers because Mr. Banner was thinking of them.
I put the slide under the microscope and offered it to Bella. "Ladies first?" I asked, smiling.
She stared at me and I wondered if she didn't want to work with me. "Or I could go first, if you wish…" I said, faltering at the end, my smile disappearing.
"No, its fine, I'll do it," she replied and looked at the slide under the microscope.
"Prophase," she said confidently.
I smirked. "May I?" I asked, reaching for the microscope. My hand brushed against hers and she withdrew it instantly.
I looked at the slide. Indeed, it was prophase. I removed the slide, and swiftly wrote down the answer in the space provided. I inserted the next slide and glanced at it briefly.
"Anaphase," I said, writing down the answer. Bella looked at the slide. I smirked.
We finished up our work quickly, and glancing around, I realized not many people had finished theirs. They were still struggling. Then I turned to Bella.
"Why did you move to Forks?" I asked curiously. Surely there would be some reason for her to move to this dismal town.
"Well," she began, and then hesitated. "It's kind of complicated."
"I think I can keep up," I said with a smile.
"See, my mother remarried." She said, with a slight frown on her face. I wanted to make it go away, but not knowing how, I decided to just continue talking to her.
"And she sent you here to live with your father? That doesn't seem too complicated."
"No." She replied, sighing. "I sent myself here."
"I don't understand."
"Her husband plays ball for a living. So he has to travel a lot."
"Is he someone I know?"
"Probably not. He doesn't play well. Strictly minor league. At first Mom stayed with me, but it made her unhappy, so I decided to come spend some time with Charlie." She replied, sighing once again.
"That doesn't seem fair," I said with a frown.
"Haven't you ever heard?" She laughed humorlessly. "Life isn't fair."
"I believe I have heard that somewhere." I ran a hand through my hair.
We didn't say anything for a while. I looked around everywhere, not really taking anything in.
I thought about what I feeling right now. There was this unexplained need to be with Bella, although it was wrong. My very existence was wrong, and I didn't want to endanger her with being too close to me when I could easily loose control.
I wasn't sure what to do.
So basically Edward is just reflecting upon his feelings for Bella...
