Because for that short second, she held my whole entire world."

CHAPTER 3: JEALOUS, MUCH?
"First, you all will be taking an aptitude test! Those who fail are not worthy of becoming bait! Failures will be sent to developmental camps!" The old man and young soldier from the day before watched the training once again.
"This is the basics of the basics. From this, you can see their talent in using 3D Maneuver Gear," the man explained. He caught sight of someone. "Look at her," he said as he gestured to Scarlett. "She's barely swinging at all." Scarlett had her arms slightly raised next to her, a smirk on her face. But she was hardly paying attention to her own skills, for she was mesmerized by the man next to her. He followed her line of sight and smiled. "Look at that young man. He's not moving at all." Levi was hanging, arms crossed, face bored as he listened to Scarlett chatter away. Everyone stared at the two in awe, amazed that they easily mastered this exercise, even managing to hold a normal conversation while doing it. The old man swept his eyes over the other cadets, smiling at the ones who were also doing well, like Hanji and Mike.
"How did you guys do that?" People crowded around the table where Levi, Scarlett, Hanji, and Mike sat. Scarlett smiled politely while Levi had a look of annoyance on his face.
"Well, I can't really tell you how. It just kind of happens," she answered.
"You two knew each other before this training, right?" someone asked, directing the question at Scarlett and Levi. Scarlett grinned and nodded happily.
"Yep! I'm 15 and Levi's 17! We met four years ago and have been together ever since!"
"Was Levi always this grumpy?" Hanji asked jokingly.
"Of course! But he was too sweet to leave a little eleven-year-old girl alone."
"Does he look any different than he did four years ago?" She tilted her head as if she was deep in thought.
"Hmm, let me think… nope." Scarlett giggled. "Same looks, same scowl, same height." Said man elbowed her in the stomach and she whimpered slightly. He froze and immediately rested a hand on her knee as a silent apology, which she accepted with a smile.
"Are you going out with anyone? Because if you aren't… I'd love to take on the job," a boy with wavy, blond hair and stunning, blue eyes offered. She let out a laugh and wrapped her arms around Levi's neck.
"Sorry, but I'm taken." At her reply, the guys moaned in disappointment and the girls cried out in agony.
"Are you sure? I'm sure that you can have a lot more fun with me," he said, grabbing a strand of her hair and giving it a gentle kiss. Levi's eyes narrowed as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled Scarlett closer to him, effectively letting Scarlett's ebony hair slip out of the man's fingers.
"Don't touch her with your filthy hands," he demanded coldly. The blond boy smirked.
"Over-protective, aren't you? You should lay low on stuff like that. Girls tend to stray away from picky, guys," he warned. Scarlett's crimson eyes darted back and forth between the blond and her object of affection for a few seconds before resting on Levi and giving him a warm smile.
"I like over-protective guys." She snuggled under his arm. "It makes me feel warm and loved." The blond cursed under his breath while Levi clicked his tongue, a slight victorious smirk playing on his lips. The blond glared at the short man and abruptly stood up.
"The name's Damien Cross. Remember that," he told them and dramatically left the room. Levi rolled his eyes and Scarlett giggled.
"You know, he was kinda hot," she admitted. He glared menacingly at her, causing more giggles to escape her lips.
"Tch. I didn't think dirt like that was your type," he sneered. She smiled sweetly and rested her head on his shoulder like she always does.
"Jealous, much? I was kidding. I just love it when you get jealous, Levi. It's so cute. You should know my type. Short, grumpy, and violent, but a big sweetheart on the inside," she hinted. He turned his head with a scowl.
"I don't know who the hell you're talking about… And you're shorter than me anyway."
"Great job at denying it," she said sarcastically. "And I'm a girl, it's cute on me."
Levi and Scarlett sat at their usual table for breakfast the next day when a girl with flaming, red hair and emerald eyes seated herself next to Levi. The two raised an eyebrow at her while she smiled. "Umm… Is there something you need?" Scarlett asked.
"Well, actually, yes," she answered. "You see, I wanted to chat with Levi here." Scarlett glared at the girl's lack of honorifics with Levi's name.
"About what?" she hissed. The girl just shrugged and ran her fingers up Levi's arm.
"Well, a lot of things. Training, past life, family… love." Scarlett's red eyes seemed to glow with anger and hate and her grip on Levi's arm tightened.
"Who the hell are you anyway?"
"Me? I'm Alice McDouglas," she introduced proudly. Scarlett snorted at the girl's last name. "Is something funny?" Alice asked.
"Besides your lame-ass last name? No, not really." (No offense to people with the last name McDouglas! I just needed an insult! Please don't take it personally!) She turned her head to the side to look at Levi.
Alice gasped. "Hmph! How rude! You know, you should look at the person talking to you!"
"Oh, should I?" Scarlett spared her a glance. "Sorry, I just couldn't take looking at your horrendous face. Was it your Halloween costume? 'Cause it sure does make me want to scream and cry." The crowd 'ohh'ed at her insult. "And what's with your hair?"
"What about it? It's completely natural!"
"Please! No one has fire truck red hair, that came from a bottle, bitch!" she scoffed. (A/N: Red hair jab came from a YouTube Video. I do not own this insult. Repeat, I DO NOT OWN THIS INSULT) Alice sputtered, not able to reply. Scarlett smiled. "I think we're done here." Alice stood up and ran off, looking so angry that it wouldn't have been surprising if smoke started coming out of her ears. Scarlett beamed happily at the other girl's leave while Levi stared at her for a few seconds. Then he let his lips twitch into a smirk.
"Jealous much?" he said, repeating what Scarlett had said to him the day before. She scowled before letting a smirk grace her face. She changed her position so she was facing him and draped herself over his shoulder.
"Yes, I am. I'm soo jealous… So Levi, you need to give me more special attention," she replied innocently. His smirk dropped and he quickly pushed her away, his hand covering his mouth. "Aww," Scarlett cooed, "is my little Levi blushing?" He glared and she giggled. "You can't help it, Levi. I always win."
"You're not still mad about earlier, are you?" Scarlett groaned as she trailed after Levi. He rolled his eyes and didn't respond. "Levi~. I didn't mean it. It was just a joke."
"You need to learn to control your temper." She pouted.
"That girl was being too touchy with you." He raised an eyebrow.
"And you aren't?"
"It's fine with me. Don't think I didn't see you rush to the bathroom and take a shower after she touched you. Your arm was red from all the scrubbing," she pointed out.
"Tch. I can't even imagine how many germs were infested on her," he admitted, shuddering.
"Told ya." He smirked.
"What about you? Your hair was a mess after you took a shower and there was a considerably less amount of shampoo."
"Well… Come on! He touched my hair! With his lips! It was awful!" she exclaimed. The two were silent before each letting out a laugh. Well, Scarlett laughed, Levi smirked. When Scarlett was able to stop laughing, she looked Levi straight in the eye. "Don't let that stupid, fake, redhead, or any other girl touch you again," she demanded.
"And you, don't let that blond idiot or any other idiot even come near you. I don't want to share a room with you if their filth rubs off on you."
"Thanks," she said sarcastically. Silence overtook the room again. The minutes ticked by until Scarlett's soft voice finally broke the tension. "I love you," she whispered. He didn't answer and for a second, she thought that he hadn't heard her, until she heard an equally soft voice reply.
"I know." A smile spread over her face and she sprinted up to him, grabbing onto his arm, a blissful look on her face. Even if he had his usual stoic mask, Scarlett could see the smile threatening to appear.
