The Meadow
I pick my way through the low hanging branches, looking for the meadow I had found the week before. A breeze blows through, bringing all sorts of smells, the stream, and those that come with rainfall. As well as a few unusual animal smells, clearly a dog and stag, yet not quite right. Unworried, I continue on, listening to the sounds of the forest, sounds that I would never hear as a human, the best part of my animagus form. As I continue weaving through the trees I pick up the sounds of being followed, it's two creatures, that I can tell, and they are moving at a steady pace, most likely following my scent. I continue on, I'm almost there. I duck under one last branch and right into my meadow, I begin to graze waiting for my followers.
I waited for a few minutes when I could no longer hear them, thinking they moved on I begin grazing again. Suddenly, I hear a rustling from the underbrush and a big black dog pokes his head through. Surprised I stand stock still, head raised up. I make eye contact with him, for what seemed like forever, but must have only been a minute or so.
To try and scare him off I blow a big gust of air through my nose, snorting. He jumps but doesn't run off, instead he crawls slowly out of the brush. I stand my ground, this is my meadow I won't leave without a fight. He doesn't look like he's going to attack but I continue to stand my ground. Very slowly he stands, and then he is suddenly no longer a dog but human. He's an animagi! I back a few steps, putting more distance between us. I watch him wearily, then I stretch out my neck and smell the air, he seems harmless enough, so I snort again and bring my head up, but I lose some of my tension.
I decide that I want to get closer, so I take a few careful steps toward the boy, I stop, I don't know how close I want to get, I want to run but I'm drawn to him, I'm curious. Softly, he says, "That's a good girl; I'm not going to hurt you." And he takes a few slow steps toward me with his hand held out. He is a foot away and just as I decide that I will let him touch me, a twig snaps in the trees. I pull back alarmed looking into the trees to find the culprit. The guy looks back as if he had forgotten about something and he opens his mouth as if to call back to someone. But I don't want to be seen by anyone else so I bolt, running out of the meadow, heading home. I've had enough excitement for today.
Once I get home, I shower, sadly washing away the forest smells. I decide to take Anubis for a run, I need to clear my head. I have a month left till I head to Hogwarts, I hate being the odd girl out, not knowing anyone. Hopefully I'll have no free time, with showing and quidditch (if I make the team that is), free time with no friends is not fun. I would like to think that making friends will be easy, but I haven't gone anywhere and not known at least one person since I was five. I'm very shy, especially with people I don't know, but there is a reason why I'm a beater, I can be fierce, and mischievous.
Half and hour into my run I enter the outskirts of town, where there are some huge mansions. I slow my pace so I can gape at their beauty, not paying attention I run straight into someone, knocking both of us to the ground in a pile of limbs and Anubis barking at the person I ran into.
"Oh my god, I'm soo sorry, I totally wasn't watching where I was going. Are you okay?" I ask breathless, from my running, and my surprise at finding myself on the ground.
"Yeah, I'm fine, are you okay? You were going pretty fast." Said a male voice that was oddly familiar.
"Yeah, I've fallen much harder than that beforeā¦."I trail off as I finally look up at the person I ran into. Black shoulder length hair and grey eyes, eyes I'd looked into before..
It was the guy from the meadow.
"Hey, you sure you're okay, you just kinda trailed off on me." meadow guy asked.
I shake my head, "Yeah I'm fine, extreme deja vu, you looked really familiar, for a moment."
"Okay, if you're sure. I'm Sirius by the way." As he holds out his hand
"Angelique" I say as I grasp his hand. "Sirius, that's a unique name, I like it."
"Yeah, it's a family thing, most of my family are named after stars." He says, scrubbing his hand through his hair as if he was embarrassed.
Suddenly, there's a bark from Anubis, he doesn't like being ignored.
"Alright, alright, easy there Anubis." I say to him as I scratch behind his ears. "Well, I have to get home, but hopefully I'll see you around?" I ask in a slight question.
"Yeah, hopefully. Bye Angelique, Anubis." He walks away after giving Anubis a rub on the head, and nod in my direction.
I shake my head and start my run back home. My head even more of a mess than when I left. I plow through the back gate and kick off my sneakers and dive into the pool. When I surface my mom is beside the pool with a towel, "Your coach called, he would like you to go out and ride this afternoon."
"Okay, I'll be right out." I swim a lap and hop out drying myself and Anubis. I grab my sneakers and plod slowly through the house, once in my room, I change and check my email, as I braid my hair and pull on my boots. Relaxing as I pull on the worn and fitted leather. I take a deep breath and bounce down the stairs, calling "Mom, I'm ready to go."
As I get settled in my seat my mind wanders to Sirius, hmm, he seemed distracted, I wonder if that's how I managed to run into him. If he's an animagus that must mean he goes to Hogwarts, maybe I will have a friend before I get there.
Today, Ramses and I were working on perfecting our flying changes, to make it seamless, and effortless. After a good hour and a half, our coach calls it good, and lets me cool out, as we discuss the lesson and what we need to improve on.
Once home I reply to a few emails, from before and crawl into bed and begin a sketch of Sirius as he was crawling out of the brush in the meadow. As I put a few finishing lines in place I yawn and put my sketchbook away and go to sleep, dreaming of grey eyes and black dogs.
****A flying change is swapping from one lead to the other at a canter. Like skipping.
