Hello everybody. Here's the next chapter of Setting Gwen Straight. I will admit that a lot of it is similar to chapter for in Sweet Delusions, but that is only because Jack and Gwen are going through the same conversation. Afterwards, I can guarantee that it's going to be different. So… I hope you enjoy.

Jack kept his attention on the papers on his desk, the sound of the door opening and closing not really registering in his mind. He was a lot more focused on getting these papers done. He still had so much to get through for tonight and he needed to get started on it soon or he was going to end up being late to picking up Ianto.

He could see Gwen come in and take a seat across from his desk, but he didn't really look up. He just had a few more… Aha! Only two more papers and he could leave for the night. He knew he was probably getting ahead of himself, but if things turned out how he wanted them too, then he was going to have to be ready.

"Jack… I really need to talk to you."

He didn't look up right away. It was a few more seconds before Jack really even moved at all. He stifled a sigh before sliding the documents into his top desk drawer, locking it. He didn't want anyone looking at them. After all, they really were nobody's business but his.

He paused for a moment before looking up at Gwen and leaning back in his seat. He examined her closely for a moment before he figured out why she was there. This must be where she was going to say she was in love with him and that he should leave Ianto. He knew this day was coming and as much he valued her as a friend, he knew she wasn't worth keeping around if she kept living in this fantasy world.

He wasn't going to let her know though that he knew why she was here, so he was just going to feign ignorance for now. "What can I help you with?"

Gwen leaned back in her chair and put what she apparently thought was a seductive smile on her face. He wasn't falling for it though. "Why do you think I'm here?" she asked, tilting her head slightly so that some of her bangs would hang in her face.

Jack pretended to think about it for a moment when in actuality, he was thinking of how exactly he was go to let her down easy. He really didn't want to deal with a freak-out right now. "Well… According on how we don't have a case going right now, I can only assume that you are here for a social visit."

She nodded, relaxing in her seat. "That's right. That's what I'm here for." She shifted in her seat some, pushing her chest out some. He didn't even pay attention at all to the movement. "There's something important that we need to talk about."

His attention flickered to the clock that was hanging behind her head. He mentally calculated how long it would take for him to get what he needed to set up before picking up Ianto. If he wanted to have plenty of time for it, then he knew this conversation couldn't go on too long. He raised an eyebrow lightly. "Oh? And what is it that we need to discuss?"

She was silent for a long moment, a thoughtful look crossing her face. He prepared himself for her to just outright say what it was that she wanted. "I have decided that I'm going to end my engagement with Rhys."

Oh? Okay… That wasn't what he expected. Apparently she was being subtle on this, so he knew he was going to have to keep playing ignorant. "Why would you do that? I keep saying you should hold onto your relationship with him. Aren't I always telling you to cling to the normality that he brings you?" He made sure to have some disappointment leak into his voice so she would know that he didn't approve.

Gwen frowned slightly. He didn't think she was expecting that reaction. What? Was he supposed to jump up and be all excited that she was going to be single when he kept saying she needed to hold onto her relationship with Rhys? She must be more delusional than he originally thought.

"Isn't it obvious?" she asked, sighing lightly. She brushed a few strands of hair out of her face. "I am going to do this so that we can be together. We both know that we're supposed to be together Jack. There's no point in trying to fight our feelings for each other."

Anger flashed through Jack before he was able to push it down. He was trying very hard to keep his emotions under control, but it was getting hard as time passed. "I see…" he said, gripping the arms of his chair tightly. It was the only way to keep control of his emotions.

A small smile formed on Gwen's face as she leaned forward some. "Can't you just see it? We can be so great together." She sighed lightly, a blissful look crossing her face.

He had the strong urge to just growl at her. He kept himself under control though. Jack was silent for a moment before nodding slowly. "Alright… But what should we do about Ianto? You can't just expect me to dump him all of a sudden, do you?" Whatever her response was, than that was going to determine how he handle the situation.

She shook her head. "No. Of course I don't expect that Jack. You shouldn't have to do that. I was thinking more along the lines of firing him. That way, we won't have to deal with him sending negative vibes and it wouldn't be tense around the HUB."

Jack nodded slowly; for once he was actually thoughtful. It appeared as if Gwen actually thought this out to some extent. At least she didn't straight out say that they should kill him. "Have you asked Owen and Tosh how they feel about this?" Jack asked, tilting his head slightly as he regarded her carefully.

Gwen shook her head. "Not yet. But we both know that Owen and Ianto don't get along well at all. I'm sure Tosh would be upset at first, but I'm sure I can talk to her and get her to see that it really is for the best that he isn't around."

Her reasoning was good… Jack had to agree with that. Well… He would if that wasn't even true. Yeah, Owen and Ianto fight a lot, but that's because they're friends. It's how they showed they cared about each other. If she had been paying any attention, she would have been able to figure it out on her own. He was going to respond, but she started talking again, cutting him off.

"Or... If you don't want to take the time to come up with a cover story for his memory loss, we could always just toss him into a cell with a Weevil. That'll save everyone the trouble."

Jack's grip on his arm chairs tightened dramatically and he struggled to get his anger under control. He stood up quickly, knowing that if he didn't get some space between them, he was going to do something he was going to regret, and walked over to one of the many cabinets in the corner, his back to her. He pulled out a bottle of wine he had stored in it, grabbing a little baggie with white powder. He dumped the contents of the bag in one of the two glasses that he pulled out before pouring the wine. Silly Gwen… She just ruined any hopes she had about working here any longer.

Jack walked back over to the desk and sat down, handing her a glass, a small smile on his face. Gwen returned the smile, leaning back in her seat. He could tell she was thinking he was going to agree with her, but there was no way in hell he could throw Ianto in a cell with a Weevil. Her maybe… No. He shouldn't think like that.

He held his glass out to her, tilting his head slightly. "I propose a toast… To new beginnings." he said. She nodded and clinked her glass to his, taking a drink of the wine. He took a small sip as well and leaned back in his seat. He regarded her carefully for a moment before leaning forward again. "I have a question for you Gwen and I would like it if you answered me honestly."

Gwen nodded, taking another drink of the wine. "Of course Jack. You can ask me anything."

He nodded before the angry glint returned to his eyes and this time and there was no way for Gwen not to notice it this time. "Did you honestly think I was just going to dump Ianto like that just because you say so?"

"Of course you will. We love each other and there's no point in either of us being with someone who isn't right for us."

Jack slammed his fist down on the desk; the loud bang caused Gwen to jump. Good. She deserved to be afraid of him. His jaw was clenched and his entire body tense. "Are you serious? Do you honestly believe that I'm in love with you? I could have had you anytime I wanted, boyfriend or not. Yet I didn't and you want to know why? It's because I don't want to be with you. I love Ianto and I was going to ask him to marry me tonight. He's the one I want to spend my time with. He's the one I want to go home to every day."

He watched as shock crossed her face. He didn't know why either. It wasn't as if he actually made her think they were going to be together… Did he? Well, if he did, he didn't mean it. So it was her own fault really.

"Jack, listen. I kn-"

"No Gwen. Don't even bother trying to talk me out of it. I've made my decision." He leaned back in his seat, relaxing some. A pleased smile formed on his face. "There is one good thing about you talking to me tonight though. I found out how you really feel about Ianto. I can't have someone with such negative emotions towards another teammate working in Torchwood. So as of now, you are officially fired. I spiked your glass of wine with Retcon. You won't remember anything about Torchwood when you wake up in the morning."

A cruel smile formed on Gwen's face as she set her glass down. It wasn't a very attractive look. "Retcon doesn't work on me Jack, remember? I'll just be back and then we can work this out."

Jack shook his head. "The Retcon you were given before wasn't the strongest that we had. To be honest, I wanted you to remember because I thought that you had something to contribute to the team. Looks like I was wrong, so goodbye Gwen. Go enjoy the rest of your life."

He stood and grabbed his greatcoat. He slipped it on before grabbing onto Gwen's arm, pulling her along with him as he left the HUB. Once they were in the Tourist Office, he quickly gathered all her employee items, gun and ID, and set them on the desk for Ianto to deal with in the morning. He then pushed her towards the door, following her out and locking it behind him.

He turned away from her, sliding his hands into his pockets, knowing she wasn't going to be able to get back inside. Now that she was officially fired, he had a few things he needed to do before he was going to be able to do what he wanted. First on that list was contacting the police to get Gwen's job back, even if she didn't deserve it.

-TW – TW-

After an infuriating call with the police, Jack finally got Gwen's job back. It really shouldn't have been that difficult. If Ianto had done it, then it would have been over with quickly. But he didn't want to bother the Welshman with it. Telling him about it might end up ruining the evening and that was the last thing he wanted.

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. Just one more thing to deal with and that was telling Rhys. He flipped open his phone, dialing the Welshman's number. He hoped he wasn't going to be too angry… After all, Gwen was going to be home, safe from the dangers of working with Torchwood. He actually should be happy, so Jack hoped this conversation was going to be okay. At least, better than the last one he had.

-TW – TW-

That went better than he thought. Rhys was actually thrilled to be getting his fiancé back. Jack smiled; glad he was able to make something go easily. He was actually in a good enough mood to let the man keep his memories of Torchwood, on the condition that he alerts them if Gwen starts to remember. He agreed easily enough, which saved the Captain from making his headache worse than what it already was.

Now he just had to get everything absolutely perfect for tonight. Once that was done, he can go back to the HUB to change before picking up Ianto. A ball of nervous excitement twisted in Jack's stomach and he hoped that everything was going to go perfectly. All he could really could do is pray for the answer he craved when he finally popped the question to his beautiful lover.

The one word he wanted to hear more than anything in the world… Yes.
