Chapter 3

Advent of the Storm

Tsuna and Yamamoto were in their first year of middle school. They had been together ever since they met and were still the best of friends.

Tsuna was sitting in class after school, finishing up the little homework he had left. He thought since he was already out, he would just do it before heading home. He sighed as he finished writing the last word and looked over at the door as he heard footsteps. Yamamoto looked in the room through the door way. "Are you ready to head home Tsuna?"

Tsuna put his books away and stood up. "Yeah, is your baseball practice over already?"

Yamamoto nodded with a large grin. "Yeah, did you look at the time? It's almost half past seven in the evening. Practice ended a while ago and I was helping the coach with some stuff so it took me a little longer."

Tsuna looked up at the clock. "Well I wasn't really paying attention to the time and I was trying to get the novel assignment done."

Yamamoto laughed at the sigh his friend gave. "I haven't even started on it… I mean we just got the books yesterday and the assignment was writing a new last chapter for the book."

Tsuna looked at his bag. "I finished the book yesterday and started the assignment before bed so I stayed back to finish the last chapter. I also did a little bit of tomorrow's math assignment."

Yamamoto laughed and asked, "Can you help me tonight with today's homework?"

Tsuna nodded and returned the smile. "Just come to my place on our way home."

Yamamoto nodded, "Then let's go! It's going to take a while for me to understand. I did not get a bit of what the teacher was saying."

Tsuna nodded. He felt Yamamoto's pain as well. "This teacher's not that good at explaining. You're not the only one in class who doesn't get it."

The both of them left the room and left the school as they were headed to Tsuna's house. While they were walking, they talked about random topics that came to mind. When they turned the corner Tsuna suddenly stopped in his tracks. Yamamoto did not notice at first but stopped and walked back towards Tsuna. "What's wrong Tsuna?"

Tsuna stared at the silver haired boy across the street and all he muttered was, "Storm."

Yamamoto's eyes widened as he turned and looked across the street, "Is it him?"

Tsuna nodded and then crossed the street to where the boy was. He stopped in front of the silver haired boy causing the other to stop with a scowl. Tsuna smiled at him, "Hello, my name's Sawada Tsunayoshi."

The boy looked angry and was lifting his arm to strike out when Yamamoto noticed. He was going to get in between the two of them but Tsuna just put his arm out and stopped Yamamoto. Tsuna smiled up at the boy again, "Hi."

The boy's expression suddenly changed and he smiled at the younger boy brightly. "My name's Gokudera Hayato."

Tsuna just got closer to him. "Are you new around here Gokudera-kun?"

Gokudera nodded, "Yeah, I just moved here from Italy."

Tsuna smiled, "Cool, I love the Italian language." The remark was sincere and the silver haired boy blushed slightly.

Tsuna took Gokudera's hand and the boy looked at the other's hand when he felt the cold metal. His eyes widened when he saw the words on the ring, Tsuna smirked, "So you know about the Vongola? That makes things easier."

Gokudera let go of the boys hand quickly. Yamamoto noticed how the boy got defensive again. "If you live in Italy you know about them."

Tsuna smiled reaching out and taking the boy's hand again even though there was a little resistance. "Then I'll just say it out loud then. I love your flame Gokudera."

Gokudera looked slightly confused and Tsuna laughed. "Come with me and I'll show you."

Gokudera went with Tsuna who was smiling the entire time. He had a look that showed how he was calculating the next move should Tsuna do anything. Yamamoto did not say anything and just continuing to smile the entire time at how energetic his friend was being compared to usual.

When they got to Tsuna's house, they went up to his room and Tsuna sat Gokudera down on the opposite side of the table from himself while Yamamoto sat beside him.

Tsuna put his hand out and released a small amount of flame, allowing it to appear in his hand. "This is my flame."

Gokudera looked at it, "It's so orange… are they all orange?"

Yamamoto then put his hand out then and did exactly what Tsuna had while explaining, "No some are blue and other colors too. It depends on what type you are."

Tsuna let his flame disappear. "Mines a Sky flame and Yamamoto's is a Rain flame."

Gokudera looked at his hand, "What color's mine?"

Yamamoto laughed. "I don't know but Tsuna can probably see it."

Tsuna nodded taking Gokudera's hand in his. "You're a Storm type so it's red. Here, put your hand in mine and try to imagine your resolve taking the shape of a flame in your hand."

Gokudera stared at his hand intently and sure enough the flame began to form. Tsuna smiled as he ran his other hand through the flame. "I love it. It's such a pretty red."

Gokudera pulled his hand away, suddenly self-conscious about it. "Stop you'll get burned."

Tsuna smiled as he showed Gokudera his hand. "You can see it right? The thin layer of flames covering my hand…"

Gokudera nodded, "Yeah, so is that why you could touch my flame without being burned?"

Tsuna laughed as he removed the coating and then ran his hand through Yamamoto's flame. "Yeah, but it's only like that because you don't have control yet. I don't need to if I touch Yamamoto's flame because he can control it and I could touch you with my flame without it burning. Control comes with training."

Gokudera nodded in understanding, "I get it."

Tsuna invited Gokudera to dinner with Yamamoto. Gokudera felt uncomfortable at being treated so kindly by someone who was supposed to be important. When he left Italy, he had to earn his reputation from a street rat. Why would a stranger of importance treat him so kindly? It went against Gokudera's belief about the world. It was never a kind place but with this boy, he could not sense any form of hidden intention.

The rain flamed boy was similar. It made Gokudera feel warm but uneasy. Yamamoto was an observant person and he had Gokudera's insecurities figured out. He gave Gokudera an assuring pat on the back. "Don't worry about it. I was unsure at first but Tsuna isn't the kind of person you find outside. You can take your time to trust us."

Gokudera relaxed at those words. Tsuna gave him a warm smile and asked if he wanted seconds to the rice. He returned the smile and accepted it. That gesture made Tsuna happy and Gokudera found himself attracted to that charismatic smile.

"If it is him, I don't mind following him forever…" Gokudera thought.
