Is this real? Could it be an actual update? Yes! It is. Sorry for the very very very very long wait. Five months and three days to be exact. I feel terrible for making you wait this long. I just had no motivation and major writers block. The next chapter should be posted soon considering I've already started it but don't hold your breath. You can all thank Exoticpeachblossom because she was always there pushing me to write this and it worked. Anyway I'll let you read the chapter now.
"Why Miss Elphaba, look at you! You're even beautifuller than last time." A very proud Galinda Upland said in a surprisingly quiet voice.
"It's more beautiful Glin, and I can't believe you said that without squealing." Elphaba teased. She smiled when she saw the blonde mock pout and then to Galinda's surprise added, "Thank you Glin. This was actually kind of fun." At Galinda's hopeful look she hurriedly said, "That doesn't mean there's going to be more."
She laughed as her friend deflated, then pulled her in for a hug. "So where are we going?" Elphaba asked making the blonde remember the reason for the makeover.
"Why the Ozdust ballroom of course." She said jumping around again. Clearly the years in University and teaching hadn't made her grow up completely. She stopped jumping when she saw the look on her friends face. It was a look she knew all too well.
"Glin you know I don't like going there." Elphaba said sternly.
"But Elphie it was there that we became friends five years ago today. You remember don't you?"
"Yes Glin of course I remember. It was your 'Annual Start of the School Year Dance' I believe you called it and you gave me this hat," She said walking over to her bedside table and grabbing said hat and placing it in the now subdued blonde's hands. "I took it as a peace offering and decided to take a wild chance and go against everything inside me that said it was a prank and go to your dance. When I got there though…it turned out my instincts were right." Elphaba looked at Galinda who was looking at her feet. She put a finger under her chin and lifted her head up to look her in the eye. "But to be honest I'm glad I went against my instincts because if I hadn't I wouldn't have met this crazy bubbly blonde that I now call my best friend."
When Elphaba finished talking she was almost tackled to the ground by the blonde as she threw herself into her in a hug. "Oh Elphie! I'm so sorry I did that. It was so mean and horrendible."
"Don't be. Glin if you hadn't done that we wouldn't have become best friends. Would you want that?"
"Of course not." Galinda said still serious. That soon changed. "Now let's get ready for our night out." She said excitedly jumping up and down again, before grabbing the dress that she had already picked out so they could spend as much time as they could at the ballroom.
Elphaba just shook her head and laughed at her friend. She decided she too would surprise her friend. She walked over to her wardrobe and reached for a bag hidden at the very back. She opened it and smiled.
Twenty minutes later Galinda came out of the bathroom looking like she stepped out of an Ozmopolitan magazine. "Elphie are you..." she stopped talking when she saw her friend. She looked absolutely stunning. She was wearing an aubergine chiffon full length v-neck dress. It hugged her torso perfectly, but flowed like a cresting waterfall of lace around her legs. Under the bust, silver rings encircled her rib cage. The same coloured material made up the border of the inside of the straps. She had her hair down and slightly curled. The tiniest bit of mascara graced her eyes and Galinda thought she saw a glimmer of lip gloss on her lips.
Galinda just stood there mouth agape while Elphaba blushed and walked over to her. "Ah... Glin are you ok?" She said waving her hand in front of the blondes face.
Galinda shook her head as if to clear it and closed her mouth. "Yes I'm fine it's just you look absolutely gorgeous."
Elphaba blushed again and smiled. "Thanks Glin but you outshine me."
Galinda was wearing a pale pink full length strapless dress with silver patterns twirling all around it. The dress was tight around her bust but the rest of the dress flowed down to the ground where it pooled around her feet. Pink gemstones lined the outside of the top of the dress. She had on pink heels that looked impossible to walk in since they were so high.
"Elphie!" Galinda called to break Elphaba out of her trance. "Where did you get that dress?"
Elphaba took Galinda's hand. "Glin do you really think I would have forgotten what today is? I bought this the other day when you were out shopping with your cousin when she visited. I knew you would have planned something and I saw this and thought it would be perfect. Do you think it is?" Elphaba said looking slightly nervous.
"Oh Elphie!" Galinda said practically strangling her in a hug. "It's beyond perfect and so are you. Now let's go have ourselves some fun." She said stepping back from the hug and bumping her hip against Elphaba's causing the green girl to laugh.
As Elphaba gathered up her dress so she could walk without tripping on it, Galinda saw her shoes. "OH MY OZ ELPHIE THOSE SHOES ARE GORGEOUS!" She practically squealed as she eyed the black sequined high heels.
Elphaba laughed. "Thanks Glin I believe you gave me them for my birthday."
"I did? Oh well anyway they're still gorgeous." She said shrugging her shoulders.
Elphaba laughed. "And so are you Glin."
They left the room and headed to the Ozdust ballroom.
Fiyero left his conversation with Valisha mentally bashing himself for slipping up on the same thing twice. It was only when he was halfway back to his dorm that he remembered he had just agreed to a date with a girl who was not the one who had been on his mind all day. He entered his room and threw himself on the bed. "Why did you agree to that you brainless fool?" He yelled at himself. "Well there's no way out of this now." He began getting ready.
"OMO Lish I can't believe you have a date with Fiyero Tiggular, Crown Prince of the Vinkus already!" Exclaimed Monique.
"Well what did you expect Neeky I mean this is Lish." Added Tiff.
"Girls that's enough. I need to find the perfect dress for tonight. This is the most important date I've ever had." Valisha said studying the contents of her cupboard.
"Lish you have thousands of dresses it can't be that hard." Monique said looking up from her half painted nails. The other three girls glared at her and she shrank back.
"Monique this isn't just any date or party. This is the traditional Shiz 'Start of the School Year Party' started by our very own teacher Miss Galinda Upland and Lish is going with the hottest guy on campus." Tiff's use of Monique's full name meant this was a very big deal.
"Yeah and all eyes will be on them so she has to look perfect, and she totally will." Kelli-Anne added.
"Well I won't if you three don't be quiet and let me focus." A clearly annoyed Valisha threw over her shoulder.
A collective 'sorry' could be heard from around the room. Valisha rolled her eyes and focused her attention on her wardrobe. She knew had the most beautiful dresses in the Emerald City, for her father always bought her the best dresses from the best designers but right now it seemed as if she didn't have anything appropriate.
Grabbing an orange dress she looked it over before throwing it over her shoulder and onto her bed next to Monique and looked through her dresses again. Several dresses followed a similar fate before she finally she found it.
Grabbing the hanger she pulled it out of the wardrobe. As soon as she did the other three girls moved closer to study the dress.
"It's perfect." Tiff said.
"I know." Valisha said smugly as she eyed the dress. Gemstones covered the silver top of the dress which was separated from the full length red bottom by a red silk belt under the bust.
Almost an hour later Valisha had deemed herself ready. She had the dress on along with some silver high heels. Tiff curled her hair and it gently bounced around her shoulders as she twisted and turned studying every inch of her reflection in the mirror. Finally she smiled. "Yah girls! We done good."
Tiff, Kelli-Anne and Monique left shortly after to get ready, leaving Valisha to dream of her date. They all agreed to meet up at the Ozdust once Fiyero had picked Valisha up.
Fiyero straightened his vest as he stood outside Valisha's door. He was a bit late due the fact that he didn't know what room she was in and had to ask several people for assistance. He was also delayed because when he was asking he had totally forgotten the girl's name. On the way to her room he repeated her name over and over in his head so he wouldn't forget again.
Taking a deep breath he lifted his fist and knocked on her door. Slowly the door opened to reveal Valisha. Fiyero took in her beauty. At the same time Valisha was taking in his appearance.
A black vest covered his long sleeve white dress shirt that showed his muscular arms off perfectly. Now what outfit worn by Tiggular would be complete without those infamous pants.
"Ready?" He asked flashing a smile.
"Yes." Valisha said closing her door and taking his offered arm.
They arrived at the Ozdust to find the party in full-swing. "Perfect timing." Fiyero said guiding her into the room.
As was expected all eyes were on them as they walked down the stairs. Valisha smirked at all the other girls glaring at her and smiling dreamily at Fiyero. Fiyero just had his trademark smile plastered on his face.
When they got to the bottom of the stairs Fiyero unwound his arm from hers. "I'll get us some punch." He said kissing her cheek and walking towards the refreshments table.
Tiff, Kelli-Anne and Monique swarmed to Valisha. "OMO Lish every girl here is totally jealous."
"I know." Valisha said smugly as she moved her hair over her shoulder.
The four girls chatted for a while before Tiff, Kelli-Anne and Monique's dates came and pulled them on the dance floor.
Fiyero returned with their punch and gave her a cup. "So... where are you from?" He had forgotten her name again.
"The Emerald City. My Daddy is one of the Wizard's advisors." Valisha said as if trying to impress Fiyero.
"Very nice." He answered rather half heartedly. She went on to tell him about her family and their wealth. Fiyero was trying his best to enjoy this date but it wasn't working. "Would you care to dance?" He asked trying to get some joy out of this.
Valisha smiled and nodded before taking his offered hand as he led her to the dance floor. An upbeat song was playing and Fiyero actually started to enjoy himself.
Suddenly the doors once again opened and everyone turned to see who it was. Galinda stepped through and all the girls in the room immediately began whispering. Every one of them looked up to the Gilikin girl.
Tiff, Kelli-Anne and Monique rushed over to Valisha with their dates in tow. "Look at her! She's gorgeous." They all said.
Fiyero smiled watching the blonde walk down the stairs. She was the picture of sophisticated grace. In all honesty he admired her. She went against the reputation she had built up as a gorgeous clueless blonde to become this amazing inspiration to young girls both here and in the Gilikin. A lot of that change was due to Elphaba and that made his respect for both women grow.
Galinda smiled her biggest smile at everyone as she walked down the stairs. "Oh Elphie isn't this fun!" Galinda said excitedly as she reached the bottom of the stairs. She turned to her side where the green girl should have been and found nothing but air.
"Elphie?" The blonde said looking around. By now everyone had gone back to their dancing and talking and drinking. Galinda sighed and gathered up her dress before running gracefully up the stairs and out the doors where she found her best friend.
"Elphie what are you doing?" Galinda said walking over to her.
Elphaba stood outside the building leaning against the wall. When she saw Galinda she stood up straight. "I can't go in their Glin. I look ridiculous and I have an early class to teach in the morning."
"But Elphie you said you would." Galinda said softly. "And you look gorgeous. You're giving me a run for my money."
Elphaba scoffed. "That's not true."
"Yes it is now get your gorgeous green self in that ballroom or I'll drag you in." The blonde said before turning and walking back through the doors.
Elphaba smiled and followed Galinda. By the time she got there Galinda was already at the bottom of the stairs. Sighing Elphaba opened the doors, still remaining hidden within the shadows. Slowly, she peered through the darkness to find Galinda.
Suddenly a slow and very familiar song began to play and Elphaba knew exactly where to find the blonde. She looked over at the orchestra and sure enough there was Galinda beaming at her. Elphaba took a deep breath before stepping out of the shadows.
Don't trip. Don't trip. She repeated in her head as she began to descend the stairs.
Once again everyone turned see who this new person was. Fiyero heard the song change to a slow soft song and when he saw who was descending the stairs it made perfect sense.
The room was silent aside from the band. Everyone's eyes were on the most unique teacher Shiz had.
"She looks amazing!" Monique said smiling. Valisha, Tiff and Kelli-Anne all turned and glared at her.
"Yes she does." Fiyero said his eyes still on Elphaba. Valisha glared at him but he didn't even notice so she glared at the green girl instead.
When she reached the bottom of the stairs everyone seemed to break from their trances. Well everyone except Fiyero. He began to walk towards Elphaba and Galinda, who had met up with her.
"Fiyero." Valisha called out as she went after him. He didn't seem to hear her and had already reached the green girl. "Fiyero!" She practically yelled. Right as she was taking her last step towards them someone stepped on the back of her dress causing it to tear and her to fall on her backside.
"Oz are you alright?" She heard a female voice say as she walked towards her. She began helping Valisha up. Valisha turned to see who it was and saw it was the frog herself.
"Don't touch me!" Valisha screamed as she pulled her arm away.
"I'm sorry I was just trying to help." Elphaba said taking a step back.
"Well don't." Valisha spat before storming off to the bathroom to try and fix some of the damage.
"I'm sorry about her." Fiyero said as Elphaba walked back to Galinda whom he was standing next to. Elphaba just glared at him.
"Why are you apologizing for her?" Galinda asked.
"She's kind of my date." Fiyero said. Galinda nodded. It made sense. Even though she was a teacher now she still knew how the social order went in the school. The most wanted guy was Fiyero due to his reputation and being a Prince and the most wanted girl was Valisha due to her looks, wealth and high position in society.
"Well don't let us keep you." Elphaba said flashing him a very fake smile as she pulled Galinda away.
Fiyero sighed and went over to the bar.
"Elphie that was rude." Galinda said. Elphaba glared at her and Galinda shut up.
She perked up again and grabbed Elphaba's hand. "There's a reason I chose this song." Galinda said before signalling to the conductor to play it again.
"Oh no!" Elphaba said as Galinda pulled her into the middle of the dance floor.
"Come on Elphie it'll be just like the night we became friends." Galinda pleaded.
Elphaba groaned. "You're lucky I like you." Galinda giggled and waited for Elphaba to start what she called 'The Elphie Dance'.
Elphaba sighed and began to move her arms and body around like she had done right here five years ago. She repeated the movements over and over. Galinda soon joined just like the first time they did this.
Most of the students had moved off the dance floor and watched the two teachers do this strange dance. Fiyero stood at the front watching them. He smiled watching them dance together.
Valisha walked out of the bathroom followed by her group and saw everyone standing in a circle. Valisha stormed over and pushed through the crowd. "What is going on h-" She stopped when she saw the blonde and the Artichoke dancing… if you could call it that.
Slowly other couples began moving onto the dance floor and copied their moves. Valisha was disgusted with them all.
"See Elphie. Just like that night." Galinda whispered to her friend. Elphaba chuckled.
Fiyero went and joined one of the groups. Valisha was appalled. She folded her arms across her chest and glared at everyone.
"Girls I need a drink." Valisha said angrily. When she didn't get an answer she turned around. "Girls I said-" But they weren't there. They had all gone with their dates out on the dance floor. Valisha stomped her foot and walked over to the bar. She ordered herself shot after shot as she watched her date and her friends have fun without her.
The night went quickly and Elphaba found herself enjoying it. She was at the bar waiting for her and Galinda's drinks when her favourite student approached her.
"Hello Miss Thropp.'' He said almost timidly.
"Master Tiggular." Elphaba said coldly.
"I'm sorry for what I said in class today. And after class. And this morning." He said grimacing at the memories.
"Apology accepted. Was that all?" She said still not looking at him.
"I just wanted to say that I know about your amazing academic achievements and that your family must be very proud." He was trying to reach her through subtle compliments, and for the most part he meant it.
Elphaba stiffened and got up from her seat. "Excuse me." She said before walking away.
Galinda was returning from the bathroom and was heading to the bar where she had left Elphaba when she saw the green girl heading for the stairs. "Elphaba!" She called as she ran after her.
Elphaba stopped. "I'm sorry Glin. I had a really good time tonight. I really mean that but I think it's time for me to go." She said squeezing the blondes hand before heading up the stairs and out the door.
Galinda was so confusified. She turned around to look in the direction where Elphaba had been coming from and saw the Vinkun Prince. "Now it makes sense."
He was sitting there with his head in his hands staring absently at a drink.
"What did you say to her?" Galinda asked as she slid into the seat Elphaba had been sitting in.
"I just apologised to her for this morning and this afternoon." He said before taking a sip of his drink.
Galinda didn't believe him for a second. "And?"
"And I said I knew about her academic achievements and that her family must be proud." Fiyero said turning to the blonde.
Galinda sighed and tilted her head back as she closed her eyes. "Why? Why did you do that?"
If you actually read this I love you because I totally understand if people don't read this. If y'all could review and tell me what you thought it would mean the world to me.
