..Unknown Existence..
Chapter 4
*..*..*..*..*
Gentleness, warmth, and a happily throbbing heart, were abruptly replaced by worry, fear, and confusion. Misaki's heart throbbed fiercely but neither because of love nor joy anymore. It was throbbing fiercely due to anxiety; she didn't know what was happening to him!
Usui, the guy that made her board a roller coaster of emotions, emotions that were foreign to her, he was in pain, and she knew no way to stop it.
She didn't recognize the feeling she was having yet, but it wasn't something she wanted to feel. She hated this face; the face of him, being screwed in pain.
She wanted him to smile at her. A flawless smile which holds no pains what so ever.
'What's wrong?'
Usui didn't answer no matter how many times she asked.
Nervously, not knowing what to do, she touched his shoulder to enable a better sight of him, to be closer to him.
She didn't think she would feel anything when she touched his shoulder; she was still in disbelief that they could touch.
Usui's shoulder was shivering beneath Misaki's hand. She had no idea what that meant, but it terrified her. He was trembling, shaking her heart with him.
Usui was clutching the cloth covering his chest hard. He was sweating.
"W… what's wro…?" She tried to receive any answer from him, but she was cut off in the middle of the question by his sudden motion.
He lay squirming on the ground with anguish. His eyes were closed tight in an attempt to endure what seemed to be ripping his heart apart.
"What's wrong?!" she yelled her question. She wasn't intending to yell, but everything within her was aching. She lost her composure.
He is a human. She knew nothing about humans, and that was the main cause of her turmoil. She didn't know how to help him!
The tears he could stop earlier fell uncontrollably down her cheeks.
'I don't know how to help him, but maybe a human would know' she realized.
She tore herself away from Usui's location, sat, and closed her eyes. She was trying to use a power she almost forgot about. She didn't know what the effect of her power might be on him, but there was no other choice.
The tremor Usui had, seemed to have lessened. He became steadier. He opened his eyes slowly; the pain eased a bit. He sat up, and looked at the girl who was still closing her eyes.
In a split second, Misaki opened her eyes, and Usui could no longer feel the land beneath him. All of his surroundings were swallowed up in darkness, and then, a blinding light hurt his eyes, forcing him to close his eyelids.
A moment later, the light faded. Usui opened his eyes, ignoring the pain that was dwelling in his chest. He tried to figure out where he was.
The city, he was in the city, but how? And where is Misaki?
Usui tried to stand in order to search for her, but as if electricity hit him, his whole body started to yell with pain.
A walking man saw Usui sitting on the curb of the sidewalk, trying to pull a proper breath.
'What's wrong?" The old man asked Usui, but Usui didn't response, so the man stopped a taxi, and took Usui to the hospital.
*..*..*..*..*
Usui's blonde hair locks hung over his forehead as his head was tilted. He didn't move. He couldn't. He wasn't aware why. He didn't have the time to wonder where he was due to the voice he heard. A voice of two metals shaved against each other.
He raised his head to look at the source of the voice. A man that has a long silver hair was what he saw. The man smiled in a way that gave Usui goose bumps. The deep eyes of that man carried no sense of sympathy what so ever.
The man made his way towards Usui, carrying a metal object Usui couldn't identify. But Usui knew it wasn't something to toy with.
Usui, in fear, tried to move, but he wouldn't budge. As if his hands and legs were chained. He looked at his legs to know what was restricting his motion.
Light, he saw light, a strange green light which seemed to form cuffs, chaining his legs. He hastily looked at his wrists, which were chained by the same green light.
The distance between Usui and the man was decreased to one step apart, making Usui's sense of danger grow uncontrolled.
Usui tried with his utmost power to break free from the light chains, but the cuffs burned his skin.
The man smirked sickeningly, and plunged that metal object within Usui's chest, over and over again, causing Usui an unbearable pain. Usui could not breathe, nor yelp due to how intense the pain was.
'Disappear!' Was a word the man repeated each time he pierced Usui's body by that sharp metal object. An object that seemed a bit similar to a sword's shape, but it had more than one blade.
'Takumi!'
'Takumi!' the voice repeated with a shout. Usui opened his eyes slightly, barely hearing anything.
Usui found his self recumbent on a bed, honey colored eyes were staring at him in worry. Somehow the intense pain disappeared. He sat up, sifted through his hair in confusion, and looked around.
"Are you alright? You were hardly breathing a moment ago" Ichiro informed, observing Usui's pale face.
"Where are we?" Usui asked, baffled. What was that just now? It felt so real. Where was he? And why is Ichiro here?
"A hospital. Should I call the Doctor?"
"I'm fine" Usui answered; he didn't need a Doctor. He only needed to know what was going on with him.
"What's going on? Why are we in a hospital?" Usui asked. Ichiro was taken back by the question.
"That's what I want to know. I was called and told that you collapsed in the middle of the street or something. What happened?" Ichiro answered. His number was the only number available on Usui's contacts list. Usui had no family that was reachable, nor any other friends.
As if something evoked within Usui's mind, he blinked few times, and then was completely engrossed in what happened.
He was in the forest, and then suddenly in the city, and what was that unbearable pain? Where did Misaki go? And to top it all, where was that place? That silver haired man, the chains, and what that man did to him. He was certain it wasn't a dream, but if it wasn't a dream, how is he still alive?
"Takumi, I'm talking to you!" Ichiro said, raising his voice's tune. To him, it was the first time to see Usui in that condition, as pale as a sheet, and now he didn't seem attentive; Ichiro called him twice and got no response.
Ichiro started to lose his patience; if something was happening to his friend, then he must know. He wanted to know what Doctors couldn't. Although Usui was found somewhere, collapsed, the tests came out clear.
How can someone collapse without anything being wrong? However, Ichiro could discern from Usui's puzzled look that he didn't know anything.
"Eh? What were you saying?" Usui asked the brown haired guy.
"Do you remember what happened?" Ichiro answered by another question.
At a loss for words to answer, Usui mumbled:"not exactly. It's all confusing" a frown rose on Usui's face.
"Confuse me with you. We're friends, right? You must…" Ichiro said, lightly hitting his chest by his fist in order to prove his loyalty to his friend or something, but a ring voice interrupted him.
"Is that an alarm clock? What is it for? "Usui asked, looking at the device which was buzzing on the table; Ichiro's cell phone.
"I can't remember" Ichiro said, scratching the back of his head.
"Wait there must be a note somewhere" Ichiro said as he held his cell phone and started tapping in a search for the notes. Ichiro is forgetful. He forgets almost everything he needs to do, so keeping notes regarding every task he had to do was the only way to make him remember. He set an alarm for the important tasks.
Ichiro gasped as he looked at what was in the note besides the alarm. He hastily looked at the corner of the screen to check the time. Another small gasp escaped his lips. He looked at Usui with a frightened gaze.
Usui gave him a questioning look, seeking an answer.
"F…Finals… start today" Ichiro stuttered, gulped, and said:"we can go for the retake of exams. Being in the hospital is a good excuse" he smiled sheepishly.
"How much is left for the start of the exam?"
"Ten minutes"
Usui sighed, gripped the collar of Ichiro's shirt, and then scolded:" What sort of an idiot set a memo for an exam ten minutes before it?! Shouldn't that be few days before to save time to study?!"
"T…the alarm is fifteen minutes before it, not ten." Ichiro barely uttered, a sweat drop slid down the side of his face.
Usui released Ichiro and stood. Ichiro coughed, relishing the air that he could breathe.
"Where are you going?"
"To the exam" Usui answered shortly.
"But…"
"I don't want to go for a retake. Besides, I'm fine" Usui interrupted, softening his voice at the last words. He knew Ichiro was worried about him, and he didn't want to worry him any further.
Knowing very well that it's useless to try to make Usui change his mind, Ichiro followed him to the exam they both didn't study for.
*..*..*..*..*
Ichiro played with his short wisps, rolling and twisting them between his fingers. A pout rose on his lips. He puffed many times; the tedium of studying was killing him slowly. The text in the book in front of his started shifting slightly. He rubbed his eyes in order to clear his sight.
His eyes widened; his eyelashes were wet! He was in tears! That evil, merciless book cornered him and was causing him to lose his manliness!
Reaching his peak point, Ichiro slammed the pen into the book and stood bravely to defend his rights.
"Why are you locking me up without any method of survival?" Ichiro asked indignantly.
Usui only shot Ichiro a glare, and that was enough to make Ichiro return to his chair, bury his face into the book, and comply quietly.
After the sudden exam, Usui didn't need to think twice before making up his mind to lock Ichiro in his Condo, without any electronic devices 'till the end of exams. There was no other way to make Ichiro study.
Ichiro's mother asked Usui to promise her to look after her son, and Usui wasn't someone who breaks promises. Besides, Ichiro is his friend, and allowing him to flunk his lessons wasn't an option.
Ichiro isn't an idiot. In fact, he is oddly smart. He just barely studies anything. To him, school was a game he didn't want to participate in.
Usui too, wanted to escape the detention. He flew his mind to where Misaki was; he wanted to see her. He wanted to touch her… touch her? Was it possible to touch a ghost? Was he dreaming?
Thinking over and over again made him stop trying to understand. If nothing made sense, let it be.
All that mattered is he had known for certain how much he loves her. How his heart beat for her, and how much she could suck him into her eyes.
He wanted to see her, but that had to wait although waiting was nerve-wrecking; Usui knew if he took one step out of the Condo, Ichiro will find a trick to lay his hands on the laptop, or sneak out.
"It's not fair. I study and you space out" Ichiro mumbled, hiding the concern in his voice.
"I Space out and you watch me. You are not studying, so no one is being unfair here" Usui replied, sighed, and stood, saying:"I'm hungry, what do you want to eat? I'll cook"
"I'll cook!" Ichiro exclaimed at the chance to escape from the boring biology book. Usui shot him another glare, snatching that chance away from him. Usui didn't want the Condo to be burnt, so Ichiro cooking was a must to avoid.
"Then cook whatever you want" Ichiro said, defeated, and taking drawing his seat back.
Usui opened the refrigerator to fetch the ingredients. He bent down to get the vegetables that were in the lowest container in the fridge. He sucked a sharp breath as he tried to gasp; he was falling in the middle of no where.
In the course of a second, he could see a land that was nearing, or he was falling towards it.
In no time, he smashed into the rocks on that land. He had no chance to know what happened to him, or how he fell from such a height.
He tried to inhale for any amount of air into his lungs. He couldn't; breath was knocked out of him due to the collision.
He felt his body go numb due to the pain that spread through his body, and then he faintly felt himself being propped up. He opened his eyes slowly. He saw worried honey-colored eyes looking at him.
"What happened?" Ichiro asked. Usui hastily looked at his surroundings to know where he was. He realized he was still in the kitchen although it all felt so real.
'What's happening to me?' Usui asked himself, but no answer came to help him.
