Because I was Bored Chapter 1 Part 4

Kagome followed her cousin down the steps she chuckled to herself when she found Hiei was gone from the room. 'You better run if you know what's good for you.' Kagome thought immediately regretting it hoping the demon hadn't heard. She shivered remembering his bloodlust, though something in her wanted to trust the little demon.

"I will help you Koenma, on one condition." The prince turned to look at the miko eyebrows raised in a clear question of her conditions. "You tell me exactly why you need my help no leaving things out. Like the ability to read minds." She grumbled the last part looking at her slightly ajar front door. 'You better not have let my cat escape Hiei last time that happened I ended up five-hundred years in the past. I'd hate to see what would happen this time.' Kagome tried directing her thoughts to what Yusuke had explained to be a third eye, something that gave him the ability to see things many others could not. One of those things was the strongest thought on a person's mind. Koenma watched the miko intently getting distracted only for a moment when Hiei walked into the Higurashi home a cat under his arm and a disgruntled look on his face. Kagome tried to hide her smile when Shuichi and Yusuke laughed at the hybrid. Before the prince noticed her slip in seriousness she closed her lips into a hard line.

"Don't keep us waiting pacifier breath!" Yusuke yelled throwing his arms in the air frustrated beyond his limits, he did not want to sit in this house any longer when there were fights to be had.

"Fine," Koenma began his brow furrowed in concentration. "I cannot tell you everything because as I'm sure Yusuke has told you I do not know everything."

"Well I would never!" Yusuke gasped in mock innocence earning a glare from the toddler god.

"Be quiet Yusuke, this really is serious and Kagome must know what she is facing." The air in the room changed as the prince spoke. "Naraku has returned in this time, we know not how."

"But…that means my whole time in the past, these years have been wasted. Naraku wins?" Kagome sunk to her knees pictures of her friends covered in blood their eyes empty as they looked right through her played across her mind.

"Before you go jumping to conclusions, I already told you we don't know how it happened but it did. My father and I believe something can be done in the past to change this event." Kagome looked at him hope sparking in her heart.

"So what can I do?" Kagome sat again next to Shuichi fidgeting endlessly with her fingers.

"Well for now it's not what you can do but what my team can do for you." Koenma gestured to the guests in her house, even Hiei had joined them sitting across from the miko with a huff. Shuichi laughed when he noticed the hybrid shifting uncomfortably in his seat.

'Do not fret Hiei she will not hurt you.' Red eyes glared at Shuichi as the demon crossed his arms in clear frustration with the fox.

"But only Inuyasha and I can make it through the well…" Kagome broke through the silent argument with her statement of doubt Koenma held up his hand before she could continue.

"It is only that way so massive damage is not done to the timeline we are now living in. My father and I made it so." The miko looked at him with clear annoyance her fingernails tapping the wood of the table. How many times it would have come in handy to have a friend to travel with she couldn't even begin to count. Koenma wiped a bead of sweat that formed beneath his hat at the look Kagome gave him.

"I know it seems like the toddler is trying to make your life miserable, trust me I had the same thought when I met him but it had to be the way it was or who knows we could have giant fly people now!" Kagome rolled her eyes at her cousin's comment making his spine tingle in fear of her annoyance.

"Go on." Immediately Koenma nodded feeling the power roll of the miko, he was not scared for himself but the demons in the room were starting to sweat.

"The spirit detectives will be following you to the past to help with your current threat in hopes it will remedy our situation here. If it does not we will require your assistance in this time."

"Why can't I just help you now?" The thought of bringing the rest of her friends to meet her family and experience the joys of her time made her smile.

"Well…Naraku is much stronger now. We believe he may have…absorbed your friends in the past using their strength and knowledge to wreak havoc in the demon world over these last five-hundred years."

"Even more reason to bring them to this time so he can't gain that power!" Kagome slammed her hands on the table tears threatening to fall, she couldn't bear the thought of her friends being part of that monster. Bile rose in her throat when the prince's eyes filled with sorrow.

"I'm sorry Kagome but we must do it this way, if we fail the casualties will be devastating. Sending my team with you to the past…the only deaths will be your friends." With his words her tears did fall her head collapsing into her hands.

"But that is the worst case scenario!" The blue haired woman Kagome now knew was named Botan yelled at the prince rushing to Kagome's side. The miko gave off such an air of defeat it was hard for the reaper not to pull her into a crushing hug, silently she rubbed her back until her sobs became small hiccups.

"I apologize for my poor choice of phrase but you must understand if we allow Naraku to escape us in the past it will be the end of the world as we know it."

"What exactly is he planning?" Though tears still stained her face Koenma was surprised to see the fury in her blue eyes.

"Well, we can't know for sure but the barrier separating our world and the world we have given to the demons is beginning to weaken. Naraku has set up a base not far from the border, if he is allowed to continue the human world will be overrun by every class of demon and my team will not be able to keep this world safe any longer." He sighed rubbing his temple where a headache was beginning to form. "Five-hundred years in the past humans knew of demons, knew how to hide and how to fight. If they are reintroduced it will be like fish in a barrel." Silence fell over the room as each member of the team imagined their own idea of what the end of the world would look like. Only one sat unfazed his eyes closed black clad arms still crossed over his small chest.

"Though I don't like it I understand. When do we leave and how well can your team really prepare for the past?" Kagome's icy glare landed back on her cousin when he laughed at her question.

"Don't go biting my head off, damn. I'm just sayin' we've been through allot of shit I doubt a lack of indoor plumbing at grocery stores will be our downfall." Yusuke laughed again at the pursed lips of his cousin.

"If you really think you all can handle it allow me to prepare a few things then we all can leave." Koenma nodded at the miko who ignoring the pride filled eyes began filling her yellow backpack with the usual convenient items she thought to bring. Once her bag was almost bursting with medical supplies, snacks, toys, and most important, ramen she motioned for the team to follow her. Approaching the well house she noticed three of the members stood still in the doorway sad smile on their faces.

"Unfortunately we must have a team to watch the progress of the enemy in this time. Though I believe you will have more help than you know what to do with in the coming days." Green eyes met blue and silently Kagome pleaded with the man not to leave. Shuichi smiled back at her sadly though the deep voice he had come to accept as a welcome part of his soul laughed again. "We will be here upon your return Kagome, don't worry. Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Hiei are more than enough to get this job done." Though she knew his words were meant to be remembered with Koenma's earlier warning she couldn't help but believe him. Nodding she gave him a beautiful smile and ushered her three new companions over the lip of the familiar well.
