CHAPTER 4:
Sorry for the short previous chapter and the obv long gap between chapters. Hope ye enjoy!
Grissom after distractedly finishing his case, decided it was time to head home where Sara was hopefully waiting for him and in a forgiving mood. He passed Greg and nick on the way out discussing what jazz club they were going to, he waved them off and drove home. He pulled up to his townhouse and instantly knew Sara was not there, her car wasn't parked and there were no lights on anywhere. After what seemed like the hundredth time that day he tried her cell but like he guessed, she did not answer. Anger started to build in him now and he thought of jumping in the car and going to her apartment and telling her that her behaviour was childish and over the top but then the stubborn part of him kicked in and thought "I leave her calm down and this will all boil over".
On the other side of town, Sara woke with a headache like she'd been drinking the night before, she got dressed and had breakfast hoping it would stay down this time. She knew she had to talk to Grissom today and get to the bottom of this whether it meant staying together or not. She fished out her phone then dialled his number.
"Sara" displayed on his phone and he thanked god that she finally had calmed down enough to contact him. "hey, I'm glad you called, I'm sorry about yesterday, can I call over?" grisssom rushed to say before she could get a word in. there was silence on the other end and for a split second he thought she wasn't even there but then here heard an intake of breath and she finally answered, "I need to get out of my apartment, do you wanna meet for a coffee instead before shift?"
30 minutes later, Sara watched as Grissom parked his car and came in and sat in the booth she was in. she had already ordered their drinks, which he thanked her for upon arrival. "Sara" he started but she quickly interrupted him, "let me go first grisssom, I apologise for not taking your calls last night but I was upset and needed space to think. Secondly, as your my supervisor, I am sorry for running out before shift was over it was unprofessional of me and I do want to see this case out. On a personal note, I don't even know what to say to you about what happened in your office although it is very clear where your headspace is about this relationship." Grissom took his cue "Sara It was a slip of the tongue, I didn't mean anything by it", "no Gil, it was not a slip of the tongue, I know you better than that, you always say what you mean and you genuinely don't think we are in a relationship", grisssom quickly interjected, "oh Sara, come on I know we are in a relationship, I just wouldn't go around yelling that I'm your boyfriend, it makes me look adolescent and you know I don't see why we have to label this" he said gesturing between to the two of them. Sara rolled her eyes to heaven at that and said " if you cannot except this" she mirrored the same gesture he done seconds before "then why are we in a relationship at all? I mean are you ever going to be comfortable enough that we could tell the team, our friends, our bosses? Are we ever going to take another step in our relationship or is it always going to be like this? Are you ashamed of this?" Sara was firing so many serious questions at him that he actually started to perspire, he didn't know where to look and certainly didn't know how to go about answering. He looked into her eyes, they were red and puffy from crying all night and saw a lot of vulnerability there but most of all he saw pain. He didn't think he'd be able to continue in this relationship if he kept hurting her. He realised that she was looking at him still waiting for answers that he knew he couldn't give. "Sara I don't know how to answer those questions, but if its causing this much conflict in our professional lives as well as our personal lives then maybe we should have a break from each other?"
Sara couldn't believe her ears, "are you breaking up with me?" once again, another question he didn't know how to answer. "I don't know Sara"
That was all she needed to hear and immediately stood up, " how about I make it easier for you grisssom, you're released of any sense of duty or obligation you have for me, our relationship is now strictly professional, ill see you at work" and with that she left him in the diner alone, got into her car and headed for the lab.
