Chapter four, as promised! As usual, I hope you like it! Feel free to review, comment, favorite, follow, or just keep being an awesome reader ;)
So, I just wanted to clarify something real quick because it's been bugging me. On an earlier chapter, someone sent me a message, complaining that this "Next Generation Fairy Tail" thing had been done before by someone else, perhaps insinuating that I'd copied them. If you aren't aware, there are currently over 50 fan fictions on this site that are next gen Fairy Tail stories, so I want to make it clear that I'm not intentionally copying anyone's idea! I do not own any part of Fairy Tail, and I'm just putting my own spin on the next generation concept, like all the other people who have written a next gen. I actually started writing this fic about a year and a half ago, before I had an account, which is why I mostly had the first four chapters already. Also, I would like to emphasize that if something in my fan fic is similar to another person's, it is completely accidental and unintentional!
Ok, sorry if it sounds like I'm ranting! You're an awesome person for actually reading my story, and I really appreciate comments and such. Thanks, and enjoy! :3
Chapter 4: In Which Adam Becomes a Babysitter
At first Adam had attributed the little girl's poor attitude to the trauma that she had undergone. Then, as she kept complaining and whining, he had simply decided that she must also be extremely hungry. However, as he, Dresden, and Rina made their way quickly through the tunnels, Adam was beginning to lose his patience.
"Carry me," the eight-year-old demanded. Dresden immediately scooped the child into one arm. "You're walking too roughly!" Rina began squirming.
Adam looked back to see what the trouble was, and Dresden shot him a bewildered look. "It's going to be ok, Rina," Adam reassured, continuing his quick pace. "We're going to take you home now."
The child had stopped squirming and was now crossing her arms. "Stop talking like that," she insisted, a note of disgust in her voice. "What? Do you think I'm three or something?"
"Just, please keep your voice low," Adam requested sternly.
"How dare you speak to me like that! Do you even know who my father is? He–" Dresden clamped her hand over the girl's mouth, tired of dealing with her stuck-up attitude. Enough was enough. Besides, her complaining would attract the attention of the kidnappers and would probably get them all killed. It was clear that Rina's parents loved her a lot, but Dresden assumed that the Bollars had expressed this love by spoiling her excessively.
Adam just sighed, and prayed that they would make it out without getting caught.
Meanwhile, in front of the mine's entrance, Ellura and Lizz had been surrounded by the hoard of angry kidnappers. Ellura assumed that most of them weren't wizards because they seemed to be using non-magical weapons. However, that didn't make them look any less intimidating.
"What now genius?" Lizz hissed under her breath. The ruffians stood around the two girls, smirking and scowling at them. They hadn't made any move to attack yet, but Lizz was still tense. If one of them charged, she'd be ready.
"Hold on!" Ellura whispered back. "I'm thinking. Also, keep in mind that this was not entirely my idea." Lizz was indeed keeping that in mind, and Dresden would pay for it later. But right now, they had bigger fish to fry.
"Stop whispering," one of the villains commanded harshly, "and start begging for mercy." This particular specimen brandished a gigantic sword that seemed to emit scalding heat. As he swung the sword menacingly, Lizz could feel the heat pulse against her face.
"Enough talk," the orange-haired woman snapped. "They're here for the girl. That money Bollar left us was a con. These two must have tracked me and Cho here." She observed the tan Fairy Tail tattoo on Lizz's forearm. "Fairy Tail wizards, eh?" A nasty smile displayed itself across the female kidnapper's face. "I've been waiting a long time for a chance to gut one of you fairies."
Ellura's face displayed a cocky grin of her own, and she raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?" The Water-Phase wizard took her Ice-Make stance, one fist against the palm of her other hand. As Ellura prepared to strike, a chilling aura began to emanate from her body. "Why don't you come try?"
Without waiting for a response, the brunette wizard leapt into action. "Ice-Make: Lance!" she yelled. Immediately, a dozen frozen lances burst from her fists towards the woman. Without even blinking, the kidnapper deftly avoided the projectiles, and pulled out her photon pistol as she spun around.
"Ice-Make: Shield!" Ellura's wall of ice stood firm against the bombardment of lasers from the pistol.
By this point, the rest of the kidnappers had begun attacking. The large man with the scorching sword instantly dove towards Lizz.
"Raging Bolt!" Lizz shouted, just as the giant blade reached her. The dome of lightning that erupted around her sent a shock of electricity up the man's sword and into his body. He screamed and flew backward into a few of his comrades, smoke curling from his mouth. "Who's next?" Lizz growled in an uncharacteristically, deep voice. She thought she heard a few of the kidnappers whimper. Lizz looked over to see that Ellura had taken out her orange-haired opponent, who was now lying unconscious in a puddle of water.
Together, the two Fairy Tail wizards swiveled to face the remaining enemies, Ellura gathering a storm cloud and Lizz's hands crackling with electricity. A few of the villains meekly lifted their weapons, but the others began to back away. They had seen how easily the two female mages had defeated their strongest fighters, and they didn't want to end up with the same fate.
"Anyone else?" Ellura asked icily. "Come on!" She taunted. "I'm bored!" Her snowstorm was rotating menacingly in the air above her. The ruffians backed away even further.
Just then, Adam and Dresden emerged from the tunnel. Adam stopped in his tracks when he saw the gang of kidnappers. "Dammit Ellura!" He yelled. "You were supposed to lead them away from the mine!"
"Lizz and I have everything under control!" Ellura huffed, throwing her arms down to dissipate her snowstorm.
Dresden set Rina down, ignoring the girl's complaints, and observed the situation. She couldn't help but agree with Ellura. The kidnappers were literally cowering in fear, and now that two more wizards had appeared, they had begun scrambling over each other into the woods. "Uhh…" Dresden turned to the others and jerked her thumb towards the fleeing men. "Should we be concerned about this?"
Adam, who was still bickering fiercely with Ellura, looked up. "Concerned about wha…" His voice trailed off when he saw the villains scrambling away. "Blast!"
"Just let them go," Lizz said. "They probably won't cause anymore trouble. However," she turned to face the two kidnappers which she and Ellura had defeated, "we should take care of these two."
"Yeah," Ellura agreed. Those two had been the most violent of the kidnappers, and she was sure that'd they be even more violent when they awoke. "But what should we do with them?" Her question hung unanswered in the air for a few moments.
Suddenly, an unfamiliar voice spoke. "I believe that we can take care of that." Ellura whirled around, along with the other three, to find herself face-to-face with one of the most attractive men she had ever seen.
He had deep, chocolate eyes, and brown hair that was so dark, it almost looked black. His skin was perfectly tan, the color of warm caramel. It was only after she had finished assessing how positively gorgeous he was that she realized he was wearing the robes of a Magic Councilman. And that there was also a garrison of Rune Knights ranked behind him.
Ellura blushed deeply when she realized that she had been caught staring at him, but the tall man simply smiled lightly. "I'm Fallon, Head Captain of the Custody Enforcement Unit," he said to the four teenagers. He glanced at the teammates' tattoos. "Am I correct in assuming that you four are Fairy Tail wizards?"
Adam stepped forward. "Is something wrong, Captain?" he inquired, hoping that his guildmates back home hadn't been screwing around and irritating the Council.
Fallon frowned slightly, his dark eyes becoming troubled. "I'm afraid so. I was was sent out to locate any remaining Fairy Tail wizards in order to inform them that–"
Dresden cut him off. "What do you mean remaining wizards?" she asked, her voice rising in agitation. "What's happened?" Her stomach felt all queasy and she had a gut feeling that something horrible had happened to her family.
"I'm sorry, but the Council doesn't know for sure what happened. Your guildhall has been wrecked, and everyone is, well, missing." His eyes locked with Ellura's for an instant, but he immediately lowered them.
Missing...What the heck did that mean? She didn't quite grasp what he was trying to say. The guildhall had been torn apart and now their friends were just...gone?
"Do you know what happened?" Lizz interrogated. "Were they attacked? Do you know if they're ok?!"
Captain Fallon's visage held a look of pity for the Fairy Tail wizards. "We don't know what happened. According to bystanders, the guildhall was attacked suddenly by an unseen force, and just as quickly as it began, it ended. When investigated, the premises were clear. The attacker was gone, and so were your guildmates."
"And no one knows what happened? No one saw who did this?" Adam's mind was racing, trying to count the enemies that Fairy Tail had made over the years. Where had his friends and family been taken?
"Who else have you found?" Ellura asked, praying that her siblings were safe. She wouldn't be able to bear the loss of another one. She hoped that her mom had still been out on her job before the attack.
Fallon shook his head. "Only you four. We think that anyone else who was on a job was taken as well." He noticed the shocked, and slightly frightened look on her face. "Which is why," he quickly continued, "I plan to personally escort you four, along with Miss Rina Bollar, back home."
"No," Adam suddenly growled. "We need to go look for our friends." He kept thinking about Erza and Rosemary. If anything had happened to them…
"The Magic Council fears that this attack will not be limited to Fairy Tail. It is our belief that more attacks will follow, against other guilds. You four will be placed under Council protection until we can figure out what's going on."
"Like HELL we will!" Ellura declared angrily. She didn't care how hot this Captain Fallon was. If he thought that they'd just sit by and forget about their friends, he must be a complete idiot!
Fallon physically took a step back, a bewildered look on his face. "This is for your protection!" he said.
"Protection my ass!" Ellura countered, her grey eyes glinting. "Try and stop us," she looked at her friends who nodded, "but we're going to rescue our guildmates, and we'll fight anyone who tries to prevent us from doing so." The angry Water-phase mage stormed passed the flustered Captain and his men, Lizz, Adam, and Dresden following her lead, determined looks on their faces.
Dresden stopped just before she passed Fallon, and pat his shoulder. "You can deal with that one," she said, pointing to Rina, who hadn't ceased complaining.
With that, the four Fairy Tail wizards began their journey back to Magnolia, hoping that they would somehow find a way to bring their family home.
There we have it folks! I'm currently editing chapters five, six, and seven, and I'm trying to finish writing chapter eight. *Sigh* Trying to balance school and writing is difficult :/ I will attempt to keep posting chapters on a regular basis, but expect them a little less frequently, especially after chapter seven. I really hope you like reading my stuff, and I can't stress to you how awesome you are for doing that! Please, please, pleeeease feel free to comment or ask questions! My questions from the last chapter still stand. Who's your favorite character? What kind of Fairy Tail magic is the coolest? If you were the kid of someone in Fairy Tail, or Saber Tooth, or any other guild, who would your parents be? I'm totally stoked to know! . Keep a look out for Chapter 5!
