The Sleeping Sailor

Chapter Three

For the first time in who knows how long, I felt a semblance of consciousness. Had I been discovered? Was the cylinder compromised? My mind began racing with these thoughts, even as I tried to prepare myself for the fight that might have to come. As I waited for the cylinder to finish the process of wakening me the rest of the way, voices and bits of words made their way to my ears.

"Her heart rate's accelerated. She's waking up." A voice, so familiar to that of my dear home's citizens. Had some of them survived after all?

"…need to be cautious, for all we know…" Another voice, a woman's, was whispering. Try as I might, I only caught fragments of her words.

An exhalation of breath caught me off guard. I hadn't actually been breathing before, merely mentally awake. Listening. But now I'm breathing…that means the cylinder will open soon. The Sleep will be over. I feel both like I have only been asleep minutes, and like I have slept for millennia. It is not a feeling I enjoy, but at the same time, I know that if I had to, I would do it again in a second's notice.

I feel a rush of air over my skin, but I don't open my eyes. Light dances off of my eyelids like I'm surrounded by a cavern of crystals. My nose tells me it's not the case, so I know I just need some time to adjust to the sensation of light again.

"Hello?" Another strange voice asks gently, from above me. "Can you hear me?"

I allow myself a slight nod, but don't try yet to speak, either. First I must know if those who have awakened me intend good or ill. If they intend ill…I will attempt to eliminate them. If they are like my home's citizens, and intend good, I will entrust them what was entrusted to me.

"My name is Optimus Prime," the third voice continues, "we found you when we sought out the Omega Lock. Can you tell us who you are?"

Optimus Prime… That is a name I know. The Autobots who lived within the ship-city Atlantis mentioned him often. If he was here, then the evil ones must be after it as well.

"I am the last Senshi of a fallen world, the last human of the planet once known as Atlantis. I am a defender against evil, the last obstacle in the way of your obtaining that which you seek. I am Sailor Atlantis."

You guys have noticed, I'm sure, that this chapter is shorter than some of the others. The reason behind this is simple: I had to choose whether to post long chapters that would take me a while to complete, or shorter chapters which I could post relatively quickly. Obviously I chose the shorter chapters, especially with the loss of internet looming over me. I'd rather post short chapters for you guys than long chapters that take weeks or months to update. I may consolidate some of the chapters later on, but I'll let you guys know if I'm planning to do so.
