Hello, once again! Here is Part 4 of Finding Purpose, which will be ending soon, and, I want to ask you guys some things. Do you want more stories from me? A shout-out to the first three people to follow/favorite me or this story, you helped me keep writing this, so thank you.

Chapter 4:

I awaken to the sound of beeping quite close to me. I do not open my eyes, though I am aware of a bright light on my face. I am lying on my side, with my wings stretched out behind me in some sort of sling. So, I am obviously not dead. I begin to take an assessment of the rest of my body, which was slow-going, since I was somewhat numb.

My face feels fine. My chest feels like someone slammed a battering ram against it, which is good, that means that none of my ribs are broken. Otherwise it would be a sharp pain, not the dull throbbing that it is now. My left wing is definitely broken, and a dull pain from my right tells me that it was dislocated, but is in socket again. My upper legs felt fine, nothing wrong there. My lower legs though, something felt wrong about my lower legs.

I slowly opened my eyes to see exactly what I was expecting, a bright light that made me almost close my eyes again right as soon as I opened them. After a few seconds, though, my eyes adjusted and I looked at my fore hooves, which were bound together, then bound to the rail on the side of the bed. The same went for my back hooves. Well, wonderful. Just wonderful. I lay my head down just before I hear voices coming down the hall.

"Luna, he tried to kill you," says Celestia, of which I can tell because she has a very distinctive voice, very kind, but also very stern.

"No he didn't," replies, what I guess to be, Luna. It is harder to tell with her, since I have only heard her speak once, "he saved me."

"From a guard?" her voice has a hint of disbelief in it.

Great, I am going to have to find a way out of this before I get hanged for attempted murder of Princess Luna, and murder of a Royal Guard.

"You saw that the guard was coming after me," Luna's voice almost sounded like a pony that was pleading for her own life, "and aren't you wondering why he is an alicorn?"

"That is strange, two alicorns showing up at around the same time, and wearing almost the exact same clothing."

Wait a second; the only ponies who wear those robes are…

"What do you mean two alicorns?"

"That is a story for another time, Luna."

What did she mean by two alicorns? I don't remember anything about another alicorn being here.

"The facts still stand, he saved me. He did not try to kill me. If he wanted to kill me, he could have easily done it after he killed the guard. You know that."

"So maybe he was just after the guard. The only fact that we can be sure of is that he killed a guard."

"We don't even know if he was a guard, none of the other guards remember him."

"I can assure you, he was a guard," said a new voice, to which my eyes widened in response, and my whole body started to shake.

It's him, he is one of the ponies that was in the house that night. He is one of the ponies that killed my parents.

"See Luna, he was a guard."

"Then why was his armor not of regulation?"

"What do you mean, Princess?"

"His armor had a vital piece missing," of which was true, "and the emblem on the armor did not match his cutie mark," which was also true, and was a piece to the puzzle that might actually let me get out of this alive.

"He was a new recruit, so his armor was not yet ready, Princess."

"And you let a recruit be the last line of defense for us? I may have been gone for a thousand years, but I doubt the regulations have changed much. What do the regulations say about recruits?"

"That they are to be assessed whether or not they are capable for duty by starting form low-priority tasks and then moving up to higher-priority tasks."

"And isn't protecting the two princesses high-priority?"

"Yes, but that does not change the fact that the alicorn killed a guard."

"And that doesn't change the fact that he was not supposed to be there, the other guards total to the amount that was said in your report of how many were going to be there. So he sneaked in, and came at me with a knife."

"That is impossible, Princess. A guard does not have a knife in his uniform."

"I saw the knife myself, he had it before the alicorn came onto the scene," said Celestia.

Things are actually beginning to look good for me.

"Princesses, the fact remains. That alicorn killed a guard."

"A guard that attempted to murder my sister. What has been said today has made me certain. That guard did not have good intentions in his heart."

"Princess…"

"No, my mind has been made up. The alicorn will not be punished for the death of the guard, and he did not try to kill my sister."

I am safe now.

"He has to be punished in some way."

Crap.

"No, he does not. He is innocent, by my understanding."

Maybe…

"Yes, Your Majesty."

"Leave us now."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

I hear his hoof-steps retreat away from me, but Celestia and Luna did not move.

"He really does not want to let this go, doesn't he?"

"No, he doesn't, but, I will not let judgment completely pass from him until we hear from him what his intentions were. Then my mind will be made up. I need to hear both sides of the story. Though, what has been said today has made me almost certain of his innocence. He will have to say something very wrong to make me think otherwise."

"I just talked to the doctors; they said that he hit the ground pretty hard, and that it might be a while before he wakes up. Thank you, sister."

"Don't thank me; thank the stallion that just left for making my mind clear as to what happened three days ago."

Three days! I have been out for that long!

I could tell that the two sisters, even though it is obvious they love each other, are a little uneasy around each other. After a few seconds, the silence was broken by a new set of hooves clopping on the ground, slowly approaching the room.

"Good evening, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. I am here to check on the patient, and to turn out the lights. It is getting a little late."

"Of course, come on Luna, it is time to lower the sun and raise the moon."

"Yes, sister, and you need your rest."

The sounds of two sets of hoofsteps begin retreating down the hall, and I hear the door creak open. I immediately close my eyes again, and try to remain as still as possible. I hear the nurse approach the machinery that is behind me, and stand there for almost a whole minute. I then hear the sound of a quill scratching on a piece of paper, and the nurse turns and walks towards the exit. She turns the lights off, and leaves the room.
