Previously on This is war: War is raging on the town of Mystic Falls and the vampires are close to winning. The night of the battle Caroline and Bonnie decide to go out and try to save Bonnie's grandmother. They run into vampire problems and as Bonnie runs after her grandmother while being chased by a vampire, Caroline is having her own vampire problems, Klaus.
The morning brings them to a city taken over by vampires. As Caroline recollects the disasters of the previous night and Bonnie tries to come to terms with her grandmother's death the vampires gather the defeated humans in the town square planning to make announcements about their fates.

Chapter 3:
King of Chaos
Caroline wondered who the man who was preparing to speak was. If they were unlucky and the rumors were true then the King himself would have fought the previous day and he would be the one giving his victory speech in a matter of seconds. She hoped that the King would not be there, that they would be lucky. She had only heard of him but the stories were enough to have her petrified. He was neither a vampire nor a werewolf, he was a different kind of monster; a hybrid. Being both a vampire and a werewolf he had ruled his kingdom with only a few daring to question his place and their ending had not been that good. The stories of the original hybrid that cared for no one and killed ruthlessly had spread and Caroline never wanted to meet him. He was known as the most bloodthirsty of the Original family that had ruled the other kingdom since anyone could remember. He was not one to be questioned, he was to be feared and respected otherwise the consequences would be dire.
As she recalled all she knew about this king, Caroline thought back to the Klaus she had met last night. She had never thought about the name that he shared with his King. She briefly wondered if they were the same person but she dismissed that thought immediately; the man last night had helped her, saved her, there was no way he could be the ruthless murderer that haunted everyone's nightmares.
She turned her head to look next to her at Bonnie, catching her hand in hers softly. Bonnie didn't say anything she just squeezed her hand in response. They both needed this, needed each other to make it out of there.
The man cleared his throat ready to speak, stopping all the whispers. He was tall with brown hair and an air of authority about him.
"People of Mystic Falls, I am Elijah Mikaelson. It is my duty to inform you that you have lost this battle".
There was a small sigh of relief once the people found out who he was, Caroline noticed. Elijah was known as the most noble and kind of the Originals.
"Breaking news he is telling them there, no one had realized we had won", Damon whispered to his brother who was standing next to him where they were guarding the people. Stefan just offered him a small smile in return knowing Elijah could hear them.
"I am to inform you of the names of the prisoners we have taken from the battle. Those whose names will not be heard are dead. I advise you not to beg for the prisoner's lives it will probably cost you yours".
There was a finality in his voice that made Caroline shiver. She could feel the fear of every human in the square including her own. She squeezed Bonnie's hand tighter.
"Some of you may become prisoners as well and follow part of our army back to our capital tomorrow. The King will be the one to decide who will be taken. Each and every one of you will meet with him later".
A deadly silence followed after that. It was like everyone had forgotten how to breathe; all their fears had been confirmed.
"I will now read the prisoner's names".
A soldier came up and gave him a small page; it seemed as if no more than twenty names could be on it. He read the names loudly, his voice never wavering. Caroline heard familiar names, boys she knew who had joined the battle the previous night in hopes of gaining some sort of glory by killing vampires and werewolves; foolish boys who would probably be turned into vampires now. Forced to be monsters and serve the King without ever knowing again what free will was. She heard Matt's name, the boy who was trying to court Elena. That boy she knew would be gone soon; she wanted to weep for that, scream at how unfair life was but instead she continued standing there listening to the short list of survivors. Did that make her heartless? Not reacting to what was happening. Or did it make her smart because it was obvious that reacting was going to get her killed?
She heard Jeremy's name and Bonnie's dad's name as well. A burden she didn't know she had was lifted from her shoulders. At least they were alive. 'But for how long?' she wondered. They would soon become vampires, cursed to be the living dead, to be monsters and to not feel, to not care. It was a fate worse than death. That was what she had been taught, that was what she had known all her life. But in that moment she felt a little happy knowing Jeremy and Bonnie's dad were not dead. In that moment it didn't matter if they were to become vampires, it mattered that she wouldn't have to say goodbye to people she had known her entire life. Perhaps what she had been taught about vampires was not all true. Klaus had saved her. She refused to believe that he could not feel or care about anything.
"The governor of this small town, Grayson Gilbert, is dead", Elijah said pausing for a while, waiting for the people to calm down after hearing the news.
The silence that was previously there had been replaced by screams and sobs as everyone realized that their loved ones were dead. Caroline didn't scream though and neither did Bonnie. They let the tears slide down their faces without making a sound. Tears for Grayson; a man they had known their entire lives, father to both of their best friends. Tears for the lives they had, the lives they could have had.
At least Jeremy and Bonnie's dad were alive. Caroline took comfort in knowing that, in times like these it was better not to count your losses but what you had still left, she had decided.
"The soldiers will now lead you in the King's tent. Follow them and no one will get hurt. You must form a line outside the King's tent and then he shall see each of you separately and decide what to do with you. I advise you to remove any vervain necklaces, wooden stakes or anything that could be considered a weapon. Anyone found possessing such artifacts will be killed," Elijah finished his speech and stood down from the small stand. He nodded towards a man in the back giving him the order to lead the people to the King's tent. After the small gesture he flashed away making everyone gasp in fear. Caroline assumed he was going to meet with the King before everyone else arrived. She marveled at his strength and speed. It made her feel small, knowing what Elijah was capable of, knowing that his strength had no limits.
All the soldiers moved then leading the people to the King's tent. Most of the people were quiet only whispers were heard. Everyone had taken Elijah's warning seriously and rightfully so, Caroline thought. And then she heard it. There were screams and sobs filling the air, louder than all the whispers and hushed tears from everyone. She turned around spotting a woman who was struggling with one of the soldiers, refusing to move. It took her a moment but then Caroline recognized her. The woman's name was Arya, she lived in the house next to Bonnie's and she had gotten married just before the war had begun. However judging by her screams and protests her husband had not survived the previous night.
The soldier held her firmly by the arm making her stand up and move closer to him. She tried to struggle but it was useless. In a heartbeat she was dead; the soldier had sunk his fangs in her neck and snapped it as soon as he had gotten his fill. The other soldiers didn't react, like this was normal, they just continued moving forward, leading everyone to where the King had been waiting. No one dared react, afraid of losing their own lives. Caroline's eyes were fixed on the woman's lifeless body, she looked away moving forward but wherever she looked Arya's empty eyes were haunting her. This couldn't be her life, she thought. This had to be a nightmare that she would soon wake up from. But as they reached the King's tent and the soldiers pushed everyone forward to make a line she knew this was true.
"I'll stay here. I'm older and sick so they probably won't want anything from me, but you two need to move towards the back of this line. Maybe they'll be too tired to deal with you then," Liz whispered to them moving forward and leaving Caroline and Bonnie behind.
Her mother had been sick for over a month and she hadn't been able to help anyone. Caroline knew she was feeling guilty for her friend Sheila and this was her way of trying to atone herself, protecting Bonnie like she was her own daughter.
Bonnie led her towards the back, trying to be as discreet as possible so the vampires wouldn't understand what they were trying to do. It didn't matter though, Caroline knew, they could hear everything so they had probably heard what her mother had said, they just didn't care enough.
They found Katherine and Elena waiting at the end of the line. The girls all exchanged a look before they moved to hug each other. She needed this as much as they did Caroline knew. If she was going to survive this she needed them. They were her family, her sisters.
"I'm so sorry for all that has happened, so sorry", Caroline whispered to them.
"It's fine at least Jeremy is alive", Katherine replied, trying to be strong like she always did.
Caroline admired her for it, she knew that if she was in Katherine's place she would be in pieces. Her relationship with her father may not have been the best but Caroline would have wept for him no matter what.
"Yeah don't worry, it's all going to be fine, it will work out I'm sure", as she said this, Caroline wondered how many times would she have to tell that lie again.
"We are sorry about your Grams, Bonnie. You still have your dad though", Elena managed to say between sobs giving Bonnie a sad smile through her tears once they had stopped hugging.
Bonnie just nodded, her eyes beginning to tear as Elena squeezed her hand reassuringly in response. Caroline watched the scene unfold before thinking about Bonnie's Grams, about the previous night. She realized Elena and Katherine didn't know about the events of last night but she was sure Bonnie would tell them when she was ready. She didn't think she'd be able to tell them everything that had occurred. She glanced briefly at her hand, seeing a small scar there from where the vampire had bit her. She remembered the pain, how it had felt being so close to death. The vampire's blood had healed her but she hadn't taken enough for the scar not to form. She was glad for that.
She wanted to remember what it was like, she wanted that scar to remind her of that day so she would never forget what vampires could do, what vampires had already done. She wanted to make them pay for all the pain they had caused her, all the pain they had caused her friend. She knew revenge was not going to be easy but she would get it. They ruined her life so she wanted to ruin theirs. The scar that had caused her so much pain was now giving her strength to move forward, it was what was chasing away her fear helping her stand and not fall down. She had been wondering all day what she could do to stop everything that was happening but now she knew. There was nothing she could do now but in time she was going to hurt them like they had hurt her, hurt her friends.
She looked up and caught Katherine's eyes, realizing that the same thoughts were crossing her friend's mind. That was how she stayed so strong she realized. They both nodded, a silent promise to take revenge together, to move forward and not give up. They had something else to live for now, something the vampires couldn't take away from them. They would find a way, she promised that.
The line moved forward and the girls were forced to move as well. Caroline took a deep breath trying to find the courage she had a few moments ago. 'This is it', she thought. If she could survive the King then everything would be alright after that. This time she almost believed herself when she told the lie. Almost.
Klaus was sitting in his tent with Elijah, Stefan and Damon. He had sent Kol away knowing his younger brother would only cause trouble and he didn't want to have to deal with him on top of being forced to meet with every single citizen of this town. He had never done this before. Never. But this time he was looking for someone. The little witch would prove herself useful in the future he knew. She was the only one he was looking for, he repeated in his head again and again. But he knew it was a lie. He wanted to find the witch but he also wanted to see her again.
He shook his head ridding himself of all thoughts of the blonde angel from the previous night. He would see her soon, he knew, for now he had to focus. He had ordered his witches to burn what was left of the city while he was seeing every citizen. He was in a hurry to go to the capital, a lot expected him there, revenge had waited long enough, he didn't want to stall any longer.
The prisoners he had taken last night had proven to be quite useful. He always took the ones left breathing and without wounds that would need healing, never paying attention to their names or anything other than their physical condition. But today, once he had learned the prisoner's names he had discovered that one of them was a Bennett. He wasn't a warlock but after some 'persuasion' from Kol's behalf, the man had informed them that he had a daughter that would soon become a witch. He was guessing that the man's daughter was probably the girl from the previous night, Caroline's friend. Mystic Falls had proven to be a very interesting place and he couldn't wait to get more acquainted with its citizens, supernatural or not.
However he was thankful that the population of this village was small because –apart from being re-united with the blond beauty and her witch friend- he was certain that this would prove to be the most tedious thing he would ever have to endure. Although, there would be some appeal in watching all these people cower before him.
.
.
.
Deciding what to do with every single citizen had been as boring as he had predicted. It had been fun at first to watch them all squirm in fear in front of him but that had quickly lost its appeal and he had ended up just wanting to eat them all and be done with it. He could have done just that but Elijah had made him promise not to, pointing out that if he wanted to find the witch and not make her attempt foolishly to run away he should be patient. His brother should have known that patience wasn't in him but he had decided against fighting him about it.
After a few insignificant people a redhead walked inside the tent and he could smell the vervain on her. Smirking, he moved in his chair to observe her better. He noticed that she was wearing a vervain necklace. Could this girl be any stupider? He had promised to play nice but this girl was challenging him, and he was never one to pass a challenge.
He rose from his chair, arms clasped behind his back as he moved around the girl, the wolf in him ready to attack its prey. His movements were making the girl nervous, her body trembling from fear making him enjoy this even more.
"You know, sweetheart", he said standing behind her, her back grazing his torso his lips whispering close to her ear in the way a lover would, "Vervain is not going to help you".
He ripped the necklace from her neck earning himself a gasp from the girl, her fear making her unable to stand but he help her in place. His hands digging into her hips, pressing her closer to him. He moved his left hand to her hair in a mock caress before he pulled them to the side moving her head at the same time, tilting it so it gave him access to her neck.
"I know you've probably been drinking vervain as well but don't worry, love, it doesn't bother me", he whispered against her skin, his fangs pushing at her tender flesh without piercing it yet.
The girl only offered a whimper in response and he reveled in her fear as she plead for her life.
"Feel free to scream" was the last thing he said before sinking his fangs in her skin, her blood flowing in his mouth, making him groan from the pleasure. He took her blood without stopping once, draining her on the spot. He let her dead body fall on the floor, motioning to Damon to take her away as he wiped his face making sure to get all the blood. Despite the vervain in her blood he had enjoyed this, her pain was too much for him to not. She should have known better than to cross him.
The girl's screams were heard outside piercing through the silence making everyone cower in fear much more than before. Please let all this be just a dream, Caroline thought for the second time that day knowing her wish would not come true.
Klaus sat back on his chair and turned to look at Elijah finding his brother rolling his eyes at his display of power.
"Really brother, you couldn't resist the temptation of not killing anyone for a day could you?"
"Oh come on Elijah she was practically begging for it".
His brother sighed in response.
"Very well. Let's finish this. The sooner you find your witch the less people will die today".
.
.
.
Many people followed after the redhead but no one caught his attention. There had been some twins that caught his brother and Damon's eye but he was unimpressed. He had ordered people to go in two at a time seeing he was desperate for this day to be over. He was itching to kill something. He wasn't a ripper like Stefan, unable to control himself, but he was in desperate need of entertainment.
He motioned for the next two to come inside. After spending the entire day waiting for that moment she was finally there. He watched as Caroline and the witch, from what he could tell by Damon's description, walked inside the tent. They were both trembling from fear and he watched fascinated as Caroline made the connection realizing who he really was, her heart beating faster and faster.
Caroline was absolutely petrified as she walked in that tent. She didn't know how she was able to take the steps without falling. And then, as she can face to face with the King she cursed herself for not figuring things out sooner. She should have realized who her savior from last night was when she had learned his name. She tried to calm herself down knowing that everyone in the room could hear her heartbeat. As she continued to blame herself for not seeing the signs earlier there was still a question lingering at the back of her head; if this was the big bad king, this hybrid that everyone feared then why did he let her live?
She watched closely as he rose from his chair, hands clasped behind his back, a smirk on his beautiful face that was filled with sick amusement. He moved to examine Bonnie first obviously already informed of her abilities. She noticed the vampire from the previous night in the corner, a cold look on his face, his eyes full of hate as he looked at Bonnie. She observed the King's brother regard Bonnie in interest probably excited that a witch had been discovered.
"So rumor has it that you are a witch. Does your last name happen to be Bennett as well, sweetheart?"
Caroline watched as her friend got more horrified than before as she heard the King's question.
This shouldn't be happening, she thought bitterly, she should have helped Bonnie more, protected her better. When Bonnie didn't answer Klaus took a menacing step forward towering over her friend.
"Answer me", he said and he managed to terrify both of them with just these two words. The command was spoken curtly, his tone leaving no place for arguing, promising pain if the order was not followed.
"Yes", Bonnie whimpered in response, "my name is Bonnie Bennett".
"See now that wasn't so hard", Klaus said smirking before coldness took over the cruel amusement in his eyes, "I have your father. He is alive, for now. If you cooperate he will remain that way. So there will be no more tricks like last night, isn't that right, love?"
"Yes", Bonnie managed to choke out. Caroline knew her friend wanted to protest, scream and shout and run. But she couldn't, they had her father, fighting back was pointless.
"Very well. Elijah would you please escort miss Bennett to Kol's tent? I believe she and our dear brother have a lot to discuss", Klaus said taking a step back from Bonnie his eyes locking with Caroline's for a moment that left her breathless before he turned around to look at his brother.
Elijah nodded in response and Caroline could sense that he was pleased to have a moment alone with his brother's newfound witch. Bonnie looked back at Caroline as she was gently escorted out of the tent, Elijah's polite demeanor contrasting his brother's menacing one. She looked at her friend with tears in her eyes but she refused to let them fall. Bonnie would be alright, she kept repeating in her head. She was a witch and they needed her, she would live. Though in the end, if they took everything from her how much would her life really mean, Caroline did not know.
She was left alone with Klaus and another man who was staring at her, she couldn't help but shudder as his eyes pierced through her.
He turned around again and looked at the man. "Leave us alone. Go outside and make sure the village is properly dealt with."
The man nodded, a knowing smile on his face that made Caroline worry and think back to the woman's screams from before.
"Oh and Stefan tell everyone that I am not to be disturbed," he said before the other man left the tent.
"Well sweetheart it's a pleasure to see you again."
She didn't reply only stared back at him still trying to process everything.
"Still shocked I see? Oh come on now love I'm sure you've heard of me and I told you my name last night it wasn't that hard to make the connection. There isn't anyone like me," he replied grinning evilly.
She scoffed at his cocky remark before she could stop herself.
He smirked and moved closer to her and just like that her courage was gone and she felt like she couldn't breathe.
"What do you want from me?" she repeated the same question from the previous night that he hadn't answered.
"Oh you'll find out soon enough sweetheart, we'll have plenty of time together in the future but now there is still the war. Do not worry though I plan to make up for lost time," he said with a sinister smile.
Caroline swallowed hard not replying. She closed her eyes for a minute wishing that when she opened them he would disappear but no matter how much she prayed and wished for this to be just a nightmare Klaus was still there moving closer to her, a smirk on his face showing how much he enjoyed her misery. He was too close, she thought, too close that he invaded all her senses. So close that a small part of her wanted to lean into him, he was attractive to say the least and she felt drawn to him. She should hate him she knew and she did but that part of her, the girl who was never the one, the girl who was never important enough to be saved like he did last night, that girl craved him. She wanted to know how it would feel to get lost in him. She decided she hated it even more for that; for waking that part of her.
"Cat got your tongue? Still a little surprised I see. Let me guess you thought the man you met last night was a poor soldier forced to fight this war and hating every minute of it. You didn't think he'd be the King who begun all this. Correct me if I'm wrong sweetheart," he was leaning closer his breath warm against her neck his lips dangerously close to her ear. He wasn't touching her and despite the sensual results his position had his words were cruel and harsh, mocking her.
"You're not a man", she whispered in response mustering all the courage she had.
"Care to repeat that sweetheart?" he was testing her she knew, wanting to see if she had the courage to say it again and louder. He moved in front of her, their eyes locking, he was daring her and she was never one to back down from a dare.
"You are not a man. You are a monster. And no I didn't think that about you, your Grace, last night I just thought there was a little goodness in you, or the ability to feel at least." She had raised her voice this time, mocking him when she called him by his title. She didn't know how she had gotten the courage to talk back to him that way, but she had been so angry. He underestimated her; he thought she was just a silly little human but she hadn't been that for some time now. Her father and this war had made sure of that.
However this time he didn't appreciate her bravery like he had the previous night. As she spoke it was obvious how enraged he was. By the time she was done talking he grabbed her forcefully pushing her against one of the tent's pillars his hands digging violently into her waist that she was sure there would be bruises afterwards if she survived this.
"I appreciate honesty but this goes a little far. You will show me respect or you won't like the consequences. I'd choose my next words carefully if I were you we wouldn't want anything happening to that pretty little head of yours," he practically growled the words against her neck his right hand holding her in place while his left pulled forcefully on her hair tilting her neck to the side giving him better access.
She whimpered, his hand pulling painfully on her hair, her neck exposed to him, she feared he might bite her at any given moment but despite her fear she couldn't help but reply, "I've heard the rumors your Grace, death would be the easy way out when it comes to you, so go ahead," she didn't know what was wrong with her, what was making her so bold. Too bold that is was becoming very dangerous. Maybe it had been the girl's screams from before or Bonnie being taken away to be forced to work for vampires or maybe it was him. What he represented; three months full of death and endless years of pain for humans to come and that twisted part of her, the part that enjoyed the feel of his body pressed against hers, his hot breath on her neck and his possessive hold.
He smirked at her words his mood changing from murderous to mischievous in a matter of seconds, his grip on her relaxed his right hand, relaxing on her waist tracing where he had been gripping her only moments ago with his fingers lightly, his left hand tracing the curls he was pulling only moments before. His touch was soft and sweet like a lovers' but she could see the sinister look in his eyes, his touch was mocking her, it was anything but gentle.
"Now sweetheart, I haven't even begun to get what I want from you, death is a relief far away from your reach."
His grip on her hair loosened, his left hand tracing small patterns at her waist while his right caressed her cheek. She flinched, turning her head away from him. She wanted to move away but his body kept her trapped against the pillar. He was suffocating her, he was too close, his presence too powerful for her to ignore, too strong to ignore the flicker of lust in her. She never hated him more than that moment, for making her yearn for that small touch, for him and not be completely disgusted by him, even though she knew there would be nothing but pain for her in the end.
"What do you want from me?" she repeated turning to look at him again.
"All in good time, sweetheart," he replied, his face giving nothing away, his smirk hiding all the answers.
He moved away from her, taking several steps back, his smirk growing as her heart rate sped up when he moved away, enjoying her fear and anticipation of what he would do next.
"Now I have a question for you, love. What were you and your friend doing last night? All alone two innocent girls while the battle was raging…", he tone was slightly mocking and he pretended to be uninterested in her response but she could tell it was important. It was her turn to smirk at him.
"You are trying to find out why my friend Bonnie Bennett who can make a spell powerful enough to knock out a vampire went out last night. And I'm pretty sure that you'll ask her as well and if she doesn't answer you will threaten to kill her father so she will tell you. But you want to be sure so you are asking me and if I don't tell you you'll threaten to kill her which we both know is something you won't do because she is a witch. My point is that all this is a vicious cycle and I'm really not interested and frankly what she did last night is quite dull and none of your concern," she finished off with a glare and a mean smile.
"Well I could always threaten to kill your mother," he replied simply grinning once he saw her panicked and curious expression.
"How could I know about her? Well firstly you don't look like someone without a family; starving in the streets you have too much pride in you for that. Also one of the perks of being a vampire, love, great hearing. Your friend Bonnie is being very open about your lives here. Compulsion does that to a person I suppose."
She closed her eyes briefly, all her courage gone, her panicked turned into terror as he looks at her cruelly.
"You seem smart sweetheart but also very brave and that is rarely a good combination", he says approaching her one more time, invading her private space, "So I am going to warn you one last time. Do not try and play games with me I will always win. If you try to run or do anything to fight back both while traveling towards the capital or there; it won't end up well for you, your family or your friends. Am I clear? In two weeks you will be at the capital, the war will be over and you will be entirely at my mercy. This is my last warning to you; you know who I am so you know I am not lying. If you try to cross me you will be begging me to kill you. You are mine now, Caroline. You need to accept that".
He was scarily close to her again, each of his words frightening her but despite her fear she knew she'd fight back. In the end she'd cross him and she'd keep his word, she could tell. If only she knew then what was to happen, how it would end. Perhaps she could have saved her soul, but they were doomed from the start and nothing could change that.
His eyes were looking directly into hers, his gaze trapping her, keeping her from moving, she could barely breathe at the intensity she found staring back at her. He gave a small nod as if to make sure she got his point before moving away once again and concealing his true nature behind a grin.
"I'll see you in two weeks then, love," his tone was dismissive. His moods changed so fast she could barely keep up. He was good at hiding his thoughts, his feelings, she realized, if only she had known how much.
"Stefan", he called and the man from before appeared. He seemed surprised to see her there. He must have been expecting to clean up after a bloody meal, "Take her away with the others. She is to go to the capital," Stefan moved towards her following the order immediately.
He grabbed her arm and lead her towards the exit pulling her with him, he wasn't forceful she noticed, but she wasn't offering much of a struggle for him to be hurting her.
"Stefan…," Klaus' voice followed just before they left the tent, "She is not to be harmed. She is mine".
Recognition arose in the other man's gaze and she could see a little bit of sympathy as he stared at her for a moment before nodding.
"Till we meet again, love," he grinned one last time and then she was out of the tent. His goodbye sounded threatening and she couldn't help but shudder as Stefan lead her to what appeared to be a cage wagon. She wondered if that was the last time she'd see him. If perhaps she managed to escape on the way to the capital, but she knew that was too good to ever be true.
Stefan guided her inside the prison wagon, she noticed all the other prisoners being forced to make a line and all of them being chained together. There weren't many people. Some young men, the prisoners that were announced before and a few young girls. She spotted Bonnie's dad and Katherine with Elena behind him. They were going to make them walk all the way to the capital from Mystic falls? Two whole weeks. It was impossible, most of them wouldn't make it.
Why did she get preferential treatment and could sit in a wagon all the way? You are mine, he had said. And as she repeated the words in her head and tremored at the memory of his voice she finally realized. She hated him even more then, her friends were suffering, they could die and all she could do was watch.
She noticed as the few remaining villagers gathered up around the cages to see them leaving, her mother and Elena's sat alongside each other and her heart broke as she saw her mother cry as she looked back at her. She'd miss her, she'd miss the way she lectured her and the way her eyes would soften every now and then when she was sad. She'd miss the fights and their silly morning routine. She'd miss home.
"Blondie survived another meeting with Klaus, she must be special," her thoughts were interrupted as who she had come to know as Damon sat close to her cage chatting with Stefan while looking at her as if she was a tasty meal. She supposed she was for him but that didn't decrease her disgust for him at all.
"Don't," Stefan grabbed Damon moving him away a little before he could speak more, "If you want to keep your head let her be, Klaus has taken an interest in her."
Damon just looked at her, appraising her body before he smirked and put his hands up in mock surrender.
Her attention was diverted as she saw the man who gave the speech before, Elijah, lead Bonnie towards her. She looked at her friend checking for any injuries and as she found none she noticed her tear stained face and sighed. They may not have hurt her physically but her friend was far from being okay.
The Original opened up the cage without a word and pushed her friend gently inside before locking the door and disappearing. Murmuring something at Stefan that she didn't hear. She turned at Bonnie and before she could say anything her friend burst into tears and hugged her. They fell to the cage ground together, holding each other as Bonnie's tears kept falling. She felt her eyes water as well as she held her, thinking of everything they had lost in just two days.
They started moving and she moved away from the embrace turning to say goodbye the only place she had known before she heard the screams. Panic filled her as she realized what was happening. The smoke filling the air as the fire took over everything she had known. He was burning her village, her home. He'd pay, she promised herself. She wouldn't go down without a fight. She was thankful her mother wasn't inside their house, that she had lived through this although she had no idea what would happen to her. He had threatened her mother's life. She realized and terror overwhelmed her. She shook her head trying to convince herself that he wouldn't do anything. He said it was her last warning. He wouldn't do anything as long as she didn't and she hadn't begun to fight, yet.
She looked at Mystic Falls as they moved away. She watched from the distance as the meadows turned to ashes, the water from the falls stopping nothing. She watched eighteen years worth of memories being burnt to the ground. She said goodbye to her old life as she watched it being destroyed. She'd miss the falls she thought as silent tears begun to roll down her face, she'd miss the laughter and the happiness they held. She'd miss home. She spent her life wishing she could leave, see new places but never like this. She never wished for her heart to break in the process, for the pieces to turn into ashes like the meadows. She never wanted any of this. Yet she could never go back again.
