Chapter 4: Meet Naruto?
"I can't believe I'm doing this!" Gaara said to himself as he walked down the sidewalk towards the park.
'I don't even know if this is for real. I'm probably going to get there and Kankuro or someone else is going to pop out and call me an idiot for falling for it.' Gaara looked down at his feet, watching as they took one slow step after another. What if it was a prank? Just someone trying to make Gaara feel worse about himself than he already did?
The park came into view as he walked up to the entries, all the while, taking small, slow, steps. He looked around, feeling oh so out of place.
Where did it say to meet? Gaara put his hands in his pockets and walked further in. He saw a few people around but no one he thought it could be. 'I bet no one will even show up. They are going to drag this joke out farther.' Just as Gaara was about to give up and go home, he spotted a boy holding a notebook. A very familiar looking notebook.
'That's my notebook. The one with all my…' Gaara blushed, thinking about all the stuff he wrote in it.
"Hey! You showed up!" The boy yelled, noticing Gaara standing there. Gaara walked up to the boy and looked at him closely. "Are you..."
"Oh no, not me."
Gaara tilted his head and looked at him strangely. "I'm Naruto. My friend chickened out and was too scared to come out of his room."
His?
"Why?" Gaara asked.
"He was afraid you'd be mad at him for taking your notebook. I told him not to take it, I swear. I said don't take it Le... but yeah, anyway, I told him not to," After saying all that in one breath, Naruto exhaled. Then he smiled.
"I...wasn't mad. A little confused, but nothing else," Gaara replied, blushing. Naruto observed him closely before leaning back. "Oh...really? Well, in that case Le... I mean, he wasn't the one who took it, I did." Naruto admitted, putting his hands behind his head and grinning.
"I said I wouldn't be mad at him...You, on the other hand," Gaara crossed his arms and glared at Naruto for lying. Naruto's grin melted as his arms dropped to his sides. He laughed nervously. "Let's just forget about that. Anyways, tell me about yourself."
"..."
"What about that tattoo?"
"It's just a tattoo. Nothing to talk about."
"When did you get it?"
"About ten years ago."
Narutos eyes widen slightly as he held up his fingers and started counting them. "How old are you?"
"Sixteen."
He started counting again, paused, started again, then gave up. Gaara sweat-dropped as he watched the blond.
"I was six years old," Gaara told him crossing his arms. Narutos mouth dropped as he stared at Gaara.
Silence.
"YOU WERE SIX YEARS OLD! Did it hurt?"
"No, it felt like someone poking me with a pencil-" As soon as those words left his mouth, he felt something jabbing his side.
Gaara looked down to see Naruto, holding a stick in his hand, repeatedly poking him. "What are you doing?" He asked; Naruto looked up and answered, "I'm seeing if you're real."
Gaaras eye twitched as he jerked the stick out of Naruto's hand.
"I'M REAL, OK." Gaara yelled, pushing Naruto back, causing him to stumble and fall on his behind.
"Oooowww, why did you hit me?" Naruto whined, rubbing his butt.
"I didn't hit you, I pushed you," Gaara replied crossing his arms. "Well, it still hurt. Why does everyone like to hit me?"
"Because it's fun."
"It is not," Naruto argued as he raised his fist and punched himself in the arm. "See... Hey, wait a minute…that is fun." He then proceeded hitting himself repeatedly, laughing and grunting in pain.
"Okay, you're weirder than my brother," Gaara said, watching the display of weirdness the blond boy was giving-who-at hearing Gaaras voice- stopped hitting himself to give him a curious look.
"Who is your brother?" He asked, knowing Gaara had a brother, but not quite knowing who he was.
"Kankuro, the heavy one that always wears the face paint."
"Oh, I know that guy. He's always picking on Le-... I mean, my friend," Naruto said, finally getting to his feet, dusting his pants off.
"He picks on everyone. He does it to get attention. Tell Lee to ignore him and he'll leave him alone," Gaara replied.
"Oh really? I'll tell... Hey, wait a minute! How did you know Lee's name!"
"You said it three times."
"I DID NOT! I said Le. L - E. I did not say Lee."
"...Are you in special ED?"
"How dare you!" Naruto barked, putting his hands on his hips. He poked his bottom lip out and tried his best to glare at Gaara, ending up looking more as if he was constipated.
There was silence between the two as Naruto continued glaring at Gaara, who in turn, just stared at him with a blank expression. Suddenly, Gaara did something that he hadn't done to anyone in a long time. He smiled. It was a very small smile, and as soon as it was there, it was gone. Naruto, however, saw it and his attempted glare quickly turned into a look of surprise.
"Did you just...smile at me?" It was Gaara's turn to glare and, unlike Naruto's, his glares were actually very scary. However, his reddened face made it lose effect.
"No."
"Yes you were."
"Not at you."
"Then…what were you smiling at?" Gaara looked away from Naruto's smug face.
"Nothing, I just thought about something...it had nothing to do with you." Naruto gave Gaara a wide grin before he bent down to pick up the notebook that he dropped when Gaara pushed him.
"This is yours. I think Lee drew you something. I don't really know, so just look."
Gaara took the notebook from Narutos hands and looked over it, before putting it in his bag that he was carrying.
"I'll look at it later, for now, I have to go. It was...nice...talking to you...I guess." With that being said, Gaara turned and started walking away. Naruto sighed and said a good bye before he too turned to go his own way.
What he didn't know was that Gaara had turned back around and watched him leave. Hn, stupid blonds. He thought as his face turned a pale shade of pink.
Naruto let out an exhausted sigh as he fell back on the bed that belonged to his dear friend, who had already been laying on it. So now, the two were lying side by side as they stared up at the ceiling.
"So what happen?"
"Nothing really, we just talked"
"About what?"
Naruto was unmoving as he let out another sigh.
"...Nothing, this and that. I did find out something interesting though."
"Really, What's that?" Lee questioned, sitting up slightly from his laying position so he was resting on his elbows.
"You know that guy who keeps picking on you?" Naruto started, turning over on his side so that he was facing Lee.
"Yeah..."
Lee raised a thick eyebrow.
"Well, he's Gaara's brother."
Round eyes doubled in size as they stared at the blond. "What?"
"Yeah he said the only reason he picks on people is to get attention. He told me to tell you to ignore him." Naruto raised his arm up and started cleaning his ear out with a pinkie. Rock Lee sighed and laid back. "Who would of known."
"Oh, I found out something else."
"What?"
"He doesn't like to be poked," he said grinning. Rock Lee sweat-drop.
"Why were you poking him?"
"To see if he was real."
"...I'm not even going to ask. Anyway, did he seem angry that I took the notebook?" Rock Lee asked, turning back over to continue staring at the ceiling. "Not until I told him it was me," Naruto replied, also turning to lay on his back. Everything was silent for a few seconds, until Rock Lees eyes started spackling.
"Tell me; what was he wearing?" He asked, staring off with that dreamy look he got when he thought of Gaara. Naruto raised his eyebrow at him, looking at the animated hearts in his friend's eyes.
"Why do you want to know that?"
"JUST TELL ME!" Rock Lee yelled as the dreamy transformed into evil.
"OK, OK, god. I wasn't paying much attention, but I think he was wearing a dark brown shirt with a broken heart and black cargos. Same as always."
"What about his shoes?"
"...WHATS WITH YOU!"
"SHUT UP AND TELL ME!"
