Thanks a bunch to Leia Belle Organa, ms simmons, MissSalvaforbeson, and for their reviews last chapter!
Elena watched as Damon left the crypt. Now she was left alone with Stefan. It was time to make him remember her.
"Well, I hope your family has much better history than mine."
Okay, he clearly didn't remember her. "Let's see. In the last three years, I lost my adoptive parents, my real parents, my aunt, our guardian, Alaric and my brother. Well, he came back so, there's that."
"Wait, the Jeremy that lives in our house?"
She nervously laughed. "Yeah. After I had a nervous break down and burned down my house." She awkwardly smiled, but he smiled back. God, she missed that smile.
"What?" she asked after realizing that he was looking at her.
"How do I not remember you? I mean, you're smart, you're pretty and obviously you're the strongest woman in the world if you put up with all that." Elena smiled and laughed a bit. She wanted to kiss him right on the spot.
"I surround myself with people that help me through it. Like you."
He smiled. "Bonded by death, huh?"
She nodded.
"Please don't tell me we met in a cemetery."
How did he guess that? She laughed again.
"Really? We met in a cemetery?"
"Not exactly. We met somewhere else first. Want me to show you?" she offered.
"Sure."
She grabbed his hand and led him in her direction.
Elena pushed open the door of the mens' room. She ran into Stefan and for a second, just held on.
"Anything?" she asked when she finally pulled away.
"Nothing. Sorry."
"You know, I think you were actually coming from that way. Cause I remember looking this way."
"Okay." He moved to go the other way and she moved along with him. Then the same thing happened again. Elena stepped aside to let him walk to the spot, only to watch Stefan stop dead in his tracks.
"What is it?" she asks, turning around to see whatever he's looking at. She finds a football player just come back from practice, a cut leaking blood on his temple. Crap, Elena thought to herself. Stefan won't be able to control his urges. She grabbed Stefan's hand.
"Come on, there's something else I want you to see."
Stefan let Elena lead him back outside, in front of the school.
"Close your eyes," she said.
"You close your eyes," he fired back.
She smiled her beautifully bright smile before saying, "Come on, Stefan."
He sighed and finally gave in, shutting his eyes so that he couldn't see anything. He heard movement before hearing Elena yell, "Open them!"
He got a big surprise when he did. Elena stood on top of the school's rooftop and smiled down at him.
"The view's beautiful!"
Just like you, he added silently in his mind. "Come join me," she urged.
Stefan looked at her as if she were crazy. "How the hell am I supposed to get up there?"
"Just push off with every ounce of strength you have."
Those words sounded strangely familiar to him, but he couldn't pinpoint where he heard it. He channeled all of his strength together, closed his eyes, and jumped.
When he finally opened his eyes, he stood on the rooftop, Elena smiling gleefully.
"I've got to admit, that was pretty amazing," he said.
"Well, you're the one that whooshed me to the top of a Ferris wheel once," she replied, suddenly looking a bit serious. "Before I was a vampire."
"So, when we dated," Stefan assumed.
She looked at him dubiously. "I thought Damon hadn't got to that part yet."
"You know, I may have amnesia, but I'm not an idiot. I'm an 164 year old vampire who went back to high school. Pretty sure that had something to do with you."
She nodded.
"But we're not dating anymore, so I get the feeling that my ripping people's heads off was a bit of a turnoff?"
She laughed. If only it were that simple...
"Actually, no. You were the most passionate person I met. Whenever you killed or hurt someone, the guilt would eat at you. You were always in control."
"Ah. So I bored you to death?" he asked.
Most definitely not. "It wasn't you...it was me. Turning into a vampire changed me." Horribly. Making me regret everything I've done since then.
"How'd you become a vampire?"
"Why don't I show you?" she offered.
"Okay."
"Meet you down there," Elena said. She turned her back towards the open space after the roof, closed her eyes, and let herself fall. Stefan smiled when he saw her safely reach the bottom. Elena was perfect. Sure, he just met her, but he already loved her. Maybe it was his old feelings, maybe not. All that he was sure of was that he wanted to spend the rest of the day with Elena Gilbert.
"How is it even possible to get into two accidents on the same bridge?" Stefan asked Elena as soon as they were out of the car. She tried to come up with a good, logical answer for him...and failed.
She simply shrugged. "Maybe it was fate calling me back since I cheated death the first time."
"But if I was there both times," he began, "why didn't I save you both times?"
She hesitated. "Because the second time, I told you to save my friend, Matt. Because I asked you to."
"Oh. So I'm an idiot?"
She laughed. "No. You were..." She thought for a moment. This Stefan didn't remember her being with his brother. She could tell this Stefan the truth. This Stefan didn't hate her.
"The perfect boyfriend," she finished off. "You valued what I wanted, even if it wasn't what you agreed with." Just talking about their old relationship made her want it back even more.
They walked for a bit in silence before reaching the bridge. Elena never realized how pretty it looked. This bridge was beautiful when you weren't in a vehicle rapidly filling up with water.
"You know, this is working," Stefan said when they reached the lake.
Elena whipped her head to look at him. "You're remembering?" she asked, quickly filling up with both hope and panic.
"No, this. Whatever you're doing. The distracting, the sublimating. The urge to feed has settled."
Thank God. She was doing something right today.
"Whatever monster I was capable of being I...I could see how I was...different around you," he continued.
"You were never a monster," she insisted, shaking her head to further support her point.
"Elena...I saw myself in the mirror today. I was scared of me."
"But you never scared me," Elena replied. She was letting all of her feelings reach the surface and didn't try to stop them. "The first time I saw you," she began, remembering that amazing first night with Stefan. The night that really kick started their relationship. The night where she realized she loved him.
The night that felt like it were lifetimes ago.
Then again, maybe it was.
"For what you were, I touched your face like this," she proceeded. She set her hand on his cheek, feeling as if she were there again. "And I told you not to be afraid."
She gave a deep sigh and began moving her hand off of his cheek. Suddenly, he grabbed her wrist and stopped her hand from moving.
"Don't," he whispered.
What was happening? It was going on so fast. Then she realized.
She and Stefan were about to kiss.
And Elena had absolutely no plan on stopping it. This was what she wanted. This is what was right. Damon disappeared from her mind and so did everything else. All she could think about was Stefan and how close his lips were to hers. She felt her eyes flutter shut...
And then felt Stefan's lips meet hers.
God, she had forgotten how this felt; how it felt for Stefan to kiss her. Why had she left this? Why had she left him? His lips were soft on hers, until she applied pressure. She brushed her hands through his hair and he entangled his hands on hers. She poured her whole being into this one kiss. This was wrong, after all, she was with Damon. But who needed Damon right now? Who needed him when Elena was kissing Stefan and never wanted to let go? They took a break to breath before connecting once again.
When they finally broke apart, she gazed into his leaf green eyes. Eyes that she hadn't gotten this close to since...forever, basically. She wanted more of this, more of him.
But she couldn't. She was with Damon. And if she left him, he would go on a murder rampage and do horrible things. No, she couldn't. But she couldn't tell Stefan about her and his brother yet. She didn't want to break his heart as much as she already had. This was fresh start for them. This was a chance to rekindle what they had.
And she couldn't waste it.
Stefan felt both pleasure and love from that kiss. From that one kiss, he felt as if he knew Elena for his entire life. He wanted to be with her, and it looked as if she wanted to be with him. Why had they broken up in the first place? He would ask her or Damon later. For now, he wanted to spend this time with Elena.
He wanted to be with her again.
Not the best update ever, but I'm too tired and out of it to write any more so...here! This is the best I've got right no
