Chapter 4:

Alfred always ignored the castle's staff, he respected their work, but as long as they did their job, he wouldn't talk to them. But now Alfred had been spotted, and he definitely had some thinking to do. He wanted to find out where the servant who had seen him flying lived. Alfred knew that he wouldn't be able to sleep at night without knowing for certain that the servant wouldn't tell his father.

Alfred took off his shoes and pulled his stockings up, preparing to go seek out the servant. He had to be silent though or he would be caught sneaking around the castle after dinner. Alfred slowly opened his door and silently walked into the hallway trying to blend in with the shadows. He walked with his body along the wall, away from the torches that light the dim hallway. Alfred knew the passage well, since he had lived in these halls his entire life, and hid in spots that only he knew existed. Alfred eventually made his way to the kitchen, he knew that the servants loved to gossip and that the kitchen was their sanctuary of rumors. Alfred walked in proud with his head held high, practically demanding attention with his body language. Nearly everyone's head turned at the clean, well-dressed individual who had entered the kitchen. The staff immediately bowed in respect after realizing who the dapper teenager was. Alfred smiled and went over to where Feliciano and Romano, the head chefs, were.

"Hey Feli, do you know a short man with blond hair and green eyes?"

"Green eyes... Si, that sounds like Arthur."

"Arthur?"

"Arthur Kirkland, he is on the cleaning staff and is on the gardening staff part time. He likes to try to help in the kitchen but he makes these horrible charcoal biscuits. It makes me want to cry." Feliciano said, with tears in his eyes.

"Suck it up, You're not supposed to cry in front of royalty you idiot," Romano screamed hitting his brother on the head with a rolling pin.

The Vargas brothers were the best chefs in the entire country, with the worst personalities. Feliciano was sweet but scared and Romano was protective but had anger issues. As Alfred's father would say, 'what one brother had, the other one lacked.' Sighing, Alfred said, "Where is Arthur right now?"

"I think he's in the garden," Feli said.

"Either that or he's in the servants quarters," Romano stated.

"Alright, thank you," Alfred said while waving goodbye. Alfred started to breath heavily as he speed walked down the hall towards the servants quarters. As soon as he reached the servants quarters he paused. He thought about what he could do if the servant decided to tell. He could tie him up, or threaten him, or pay him to not tell, or have him put in the dungeon for insanity, or...or...

"Ugh," Alfred hit his head against the door, it hurt to think so hard.

Alfred hear the door click but wasn't able to move away in time. He landed on something soft and realized that it was a person. His eyes opened in horror as he heard a groan and was pushed off of the person that he landed on. Moving away he caught sight of the servant that he squished. The servant clutched his stomach and groaned, his eyes shut in pain.

"What in the bloody hell did you do that for?"

"I should be asking you the same question," Alfred shot back. The servant opened his eyes and glared at Alfred, then stood up and held out his hand for Alfred to take it. Alfred was stunned at the lack of emotion on the servants face. He sat there waiting for the servant to realize that he was the prince, but apparently it didn't click. After a bit the servant huffed in frustration.

"If you want to stay on the floor, then do as you like."

"Excuse me, but do you know who I am?"

"Yes, I do. And if you don't get off the floor, you will lose the respect of the working staff." The servant scolded.

"I can have you beheaded for disrespect," Alfred stated.

"No you can't."

"Yes I can."

"You can't because if you do, then I will tell everyone your secret." The servant said menacingly.

Stunned Alfred replied, "You are Arthur Kirkland?"

"Yes, I am."
