A.N. Has anyone ever wondered what Chiron is thinking in Riordan's books?

Chiron never prepared his students to face a separate mythology. He never had deemed it necessary, and way past the time he received the prophecy from the oracle, he wished he had at least given them a little packet.
To the land of snakes,
The Sky and the Sea shall forge an army,
A pact on the verge of resentment,
The Owl's concubine shall keep,
Centurions shall rise to keep peace and fall to purge war,
Death loses place,
Life gains meaning,
Only to fall to the depths of eternity.
' Why now?' He'd asked himself, ' We still haven't recovered from the last prophecy and yet we're faced with two more!'
Rachel Elizabeth Dare just stood watching Chiron as if waiting for orders. If it was a normal day in the summer, he would have called a Counselor's meeting, but he was missing Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Travis Stoll, Katie Gardner, and he did not have a replacement counselor for the Apollo Cabin, not yet at least.
Since the Titan War, he'd been the act-in counselor for the cabin, but that wouldn't last forever, " Okay, call the remaining counselors to the Big House. We will have to have an impromptu meeting to discuss this unforeseen prophecy..." He rolled out of Rachel's new cave and headed for the Big House, and when he got there he could already see the remaining cabin leaders entering his home. Chiron couldn't help but smile at the fact that the Hephaestus's cabins telephone worked perfectly.
As Clarisse la Rue paraded around the recreation room fuming about some unknown assailant that stole her boots, Connor Stoll was in the corner of the room defending himself from Clarisse's onslaught of insults because he was indeed the next to number one suspect whenever something was stolen, and since Travis was not there to take the blame, Connor was a pure target.
Realizing this( and being the smarter of the two brothers), Connor had an excellent poker face to make sure that she really believed it wasn't him. Jake Mason idly sat by still clearly uncomfortable by his new role as the Hephaestus Cabin leader. Drew Tanaka sat in her chair with a very condescending look that made even Argus roll all of his eyes.
Pollux had become a very solo minded camper after the death of his only sibling, Castor, during the Titan War. He was twiddling his fingers around grapevines that had sprouted from his chair.
Chiron had noticed the major amount of campers they were getting was beginning to decrease substantially. Yes, it was great for a little break in between new campers coming in, but it was strange that they began to dwindle down to smaller numbers. If he knew the gods as well as he thought he did, they had millions of children across the globe so it was hopefully nothing that he should get too involved with. Even with the amount of campers they were getting, though, only a handful had actually been claimed, and they all went to the Olympians so it seemed as if the minor gods were having a stressful time claiming their own children. Annabeth had actually had a plan for when minor gods were to start claiming their children and that was to just build the cabins as they come in. There was no arguing with Annabeth so he left the busy girl to her work.
Anyway, with his counselors in place, he called the meeting to attention, " Okay, stu- campers, " Chiron corrected himself, " We have received a new prophecy from the Oracle of Del- I mean Ms. Dare. " Rachel had miraculously appeared next to him when he said her name. Says her, she's been working on it, but Chiron was pretty sure it was just coincidence.
" Can you please recite the prophecy, Rachel?" She nodded and took a breath, " To the land of snakes-, "
" EEEEEK! I hate snakes!"Drew promptly left the room. Clarisse mouth the words, " As if we need a drama queen to be the Aphrodite head counselor." Chiron quietly agreed despite his mutual feelings for all of his campers.
Rachel rolled her eyes and Chiron motioned for her to continue, "...The Sky and the Sea shall forge an army. A pact on the verge of resentment, the Owl's concubine shall keep. Centurions shall rise to keep peace and fall to purge war. Death loses place, Life gains meaning. Only to fall to the depths of eternity." Clarisse's eyes glowed, " Centurions? I like the sound of that lingo! Plus, it also says 'Death loses place'. Maybe we'll fight dead centurions?!"
Pollux surprisingly spoke up, " Clarisse, please, we just finished a war. We don't have the physical or mental stability to get into a fight with the Roman army. Dead or alive."
Will Solace chuckled, " It's just like a child of Ares to pick a fight like this..." He started to hum a tune that Chiron was sure he'd heard in Ancient Greece when things were lighter and less stressful. Clarisse was immediately at Will's neck with her knife, " What was that about ' picking a fight'?" The next thing Clarisse knew, the knife was in Rachel's hands, " Thank you, Connor." He slightly nodded, " Anything to get this thing over with." Connor was uncharacteristically melancholy.
" Clarisse, you can have your knife back after the meeting so save your death stare for someone who will actually be scared of it. Okay?" She smiled so innocently, it surprised Chiron that she wasn't even breaking a sweat trying to keep from cowering in a corner. Maybe she really wasn't scared at all.
The child of Ares sneered towards Rachel and sat back in her chair. Rachel continued with an explanation, " I'm the Oracle of Delphi and I've never heard of the land of snakes. With any luck maybe it's a convention with workshops that teach people how to be Oracle?" She looked around expectantly, but no one offered any encouragement, " Figured as much..."
Jake Mason spoke up, " What about the Sky and Sea forging an army? It kinda puts me in the mind of Zeus and Poseidon, but we just finished a very costly war against the Titans. They wouldn't need an army unless they were preparing for another one right?"
Clarisse returned from her little bubble, " No, I don't think that the Olympians are preparing for a war. If they were getting ready for a battle my ADHD would be off the charts right now; the same with all of Ares's children. So the Sky and Sea must be something or someone else. " All eyes narrowed on Chiron which didn't surprise him at all, he was the usual wisdom fountain for everyone to use at his expense, but he honestly didn't mind; it was his job after all.
The centaur had actually already processed every verse of the prophecy to find it's meaning...But he couldn't let his students know that, could he? Some of them may die trying to figure it out( He wouldn't have preferred that.), but they were to decide their own fates. The only way to do they that is if they can learn to think on their own.
So, Chiron provided just enough information, " Alexander the Great used to be a student of mine. Very great warrior, stategist, leader; whatever was needed at the time, he could provide it. But in the beginning, he conquered Greece and adopted their customs. He had to outsmart some of Greece's finest heroes at the time, some of which, I had actually trained. He gained favor from Athena for his dexterity, and she " adopted" him. The only thing she could do to symbolize his new lineage was to change the color of one of his eyes since he had no real immortal blood. She had assigned me to teach him better and more efficient strategies of war. Soon enough, it was time for me to check his process, so I followed his caravan of warriors with him to the subcontinent of India. It didn't take him long before he found a prime village to begin his campaign on the Hindi people. He let me examine his warriors before he sent them into battle. He had Greecians, Romans, Egyptians, even some Iraqi, Macedonian. Very skilled lot, indeed.
They were sent into battle; I was to join them when a snake slithered upon my leg and gave me a warning, " To think the great Chiron would train his heroes to pillage a peaceful race of inhabitants! Bad form, centaur, bad form indeed. You may want to re-examine where you are standing!" The ground below me caved in and I fell into a pit of darkness. When I awoke, I was in a fire lit cavern that was covered in gold. Miles after miles of stretched tunnels of pure gold enticed me forward. There were inscriptions on the wall, that I couldn't decipher not with my extent of knowledge, at least. That's when I found a large seating area. It put me in the mind of Mt. Olympus but these chairs were just in a random order and they were all gold. But there was a smaller, brown, wooden chair in the middle of the others as if placed there on purpose to disturb the grandeur of the whole design. It was big enough to fit a regular sized man in it.
An eerie energy had manifested itself inside the chamber in the form of a shadow and it spoke to me, " Chiron, " It's voice was very deep and comforting as if a father speaking to his son, " You realize what you have done? How many lives are being taken on the surface? My people were worshiped by the villagers, and now that they will be slaughtered, we will surely fade into non-existence. "
Somehow, I got the feeling that this being was a godly type, " From one mythology to another, you must understand I was instructed to so I did go and obey."
" Thank you for your honesty, and between you and me, there shall be amnesty. But for the rest of your kind, and others alike, there shall be a thousand curses! " At that moment I heard screaming at the surface, that's when I realized I had no idea how long I had been underground, " I'm sorry things turned out this way, Chiron. I will allow you to return to your people." The shadow dissipated and I was suddenly kneeling beside Alexander to make sure he was okay, but the only things he would tell were, ' I'm so sorry, my old friend. It seems my foolishness has caused destruction upon our future..."
