As a side note, if there is going to be any M Rated scenes past making out, I will most likely be excluding them. I'm enjoying the humor in this story. But I will write them should it occur and will post on the chapter if I have the section.

Ch 4 Breakfast is Served

"Now, if I were to go by smells instead of sight, is it safe to say your kitchen was almost burnt down?" Kat asked, her glasses still on the table next to the daybed.

Ellie stood once again in the doorway of her brand new, barely a year old, modern kitchen, slack jawed at what was displayed before her. Kat was still seated at the island, but that was the only thing that was the same. Fili was holding a pan up in front of himself as a shield while Kili was sprawled along the floor, covering his head, and Thorin in mid-throw with a pot of water. Her walls behind the oven were scorched to the ceiling, black covering the beautiful white tiles. There was still a small fire dancing in the pan and Ellie ran to the stove, pushing the blond man out of the way before grabbing the box of salt in the cabinet, pouring it liberally over the stovetop.

"I wasn't gone five minutes." Awe and disbelief colored her voice. She had only gone to fill up the dishes for the cats and dogs, she was just down the hall. "What happened?"

Fili cleared his throat and set the pan he had been holding down. "We only added the liquid as you said to cook the meat." The sadness in her eyes was clear and he felt terrible. It hadn't been on purpose, the little fire had been much hotter then they realized.

"I apologize for us all," Thorin told the young girl. "We will fix it all up."

"I don't want you, any of you, to touch my kitchen." Ellie whispered. She turned on her heel and walked out, the sound of a slamming doors echoed through the house.

Kili brushed himself off after standing. "I'll tell her it was my fault."

Thorin grabbed his collar. "No, let her be for now. We will clean and eat what we can.". Thorin looked at the girl named Kat sitting and watched them, unseeing. "Do you know how to cook?"

"Yes, I wasn't born blind."

"Will you help us then?"

Kat smiled, "I dunno. What do I get from it?"

"What do you want, we don't have much." Or anything Thorin thought to himself. He watched a strange grin creep up her face.

"Oh, I think you do, but I'll collect later." She stood and grabbed her cane, "I'll be right back."

They waited, surveying the damages they wrought. To them, it didn't look bad and easily fixed, but maybe there was something about the structure they didn't know.

"Wow. I mean, wow. I heard it, but I didn't think it was this bad." Kat was back in the kitchen, walking towards them and focusing her attention on the black marks they had created. "I changed my mind, I'll order some food instead. I'm hungry and there's no way you'll have it fixed right now." She took out her cell and powered it on, found the number of their favourite breakfast spot and hit call. After two rings, it picked up. "Hi mama, it's Kat. Yeah, need to order breakfast, I'm at Ellie's and she has some visitors." She paused and looked at the three men staring her down, eyes going between her and the phone. "I'll take three English breakfasts, a waffle with fruit and eggs, and pancakes with sausage. Can you deliver? Okay, I'll be waiting." The line went dead and she address the three men. "What?"

"What magic did you just conjure?" Thorin asked.

"Food."

"How?" Kili came forward, hand outstretched to her phone wanting to inspect it.

"I don't think so," Kat tucked it into the pocket of her dress. "Not after what you did to a frying pan."

"That was an accident."

"So will me giving you a black eye should you try and play with my phone. Maybe later. In the mean times, why don't you all start cleaning and I'll see where she went off to."

"But, where's the food?"

"Someone is bringing it, don't worry. Now, clean." Kat waved her hand at the kitchen and walked out in search of her friend.

She found Ellie in the study, curtains pulled and windows open, letting in light and fresh air. She was standing in the middle of the room staring down at the run, not moving. "Ellie?"

"Is my kitchen on fire?"

"Of course not, they are cleaning it while we wait for the food to be delivered. What's eating at you, honey?" Kat sat in an armchair next to the book shelf and watched Ellie.

"This is where I found them, in a pile, and something is off about my rug."

"Is there blood?"

"No."

"Then what is it?"

Ellie sighed, wondering if she was going crazy. Maybe a tumor causing delusions. "The pattern is different."

Kat couldn't tell left from right some days so she wasn't the one to verify what Ellie was seeing. "Are you sure? Maybe you never noticed parts of it before."

"No, I stare at it all the time when I'm thinking. It's changed." She looked over at Kat, "How in the world did they get here? My brain isn't coming to terms that this is real."

"Which is understandable."

"But you don't have the same problem." It wasn't a question.

"No. While you write fiction, I've lived and seen it. My beliefs hold the thought that there are others, although the idea that Middle Earth is real is a it mind blowing. I always wanted to see an Elf. Do you think the others look similar to the actors in the movies?"

"I don't know. But I want to know how they got here."

"Something that will be found out eventually. I'm not sure they know how they came here."

Ellie opened her mouth to answer when a shout came from the kitchen and she looked wearily out the open French doors. Her cat, Smaug, came streaking down the hallway with Kili on his heels. He stopped at the entrance to the study and glared at the cat who had taken up refuge on Kat's lap.

"That thing is trying to kill me."

Gandalf and Radagast came prancing up behind Kili and rubbed themselves over his legs. Ellie looked between the cats, "But apparently not them."

Fili joined his brother, "I don't know where you got that animal, but it hates us."

They all looked at the ginger cat purring on Kat's lap. Thorin appearing a moment after his nephew and taking in the scene.

"Is this why you are called Kat? Is that your real name?" Thorin wondered out loud, thinking she was named like himself.

"Of sorts. My full name is Katarina Roch, I prefer things to be shorter and Roch hard. Though I am willing to make exceptions."

Eyes turned to Ellie after giving Kat a weary look. "Is your name short also?" Fili asked.

"Yes."

They waited in silence for a moment until Kili spoke up. "May we know your full name also?"

"Penelope O'Nielle."

"But she'll only O'Nielle for certain people."

It took a moment for them realize Kat had made another inappropriate pun and Kili was the first the give a laugh, then Fili, while Thorin and Ellie looked at the woman annoyed.

"That wasn't funny."

"Your boys seem to think otherwise." Kat retorted to her friend.

Ellies face flamed up at the inuendo. "They are not mine."

Kat hummed in disagreement. The doorbell rang, making the men jump and cats scatter to their hiding spots. They could hear Balin and Dwalin running to the door, ready to greet whomever was there. Ellie sighed again.

"I suppose that would be the food." Kat stated, getting to her feet.

"You ordered breakfast? From where?"

"Mama's of course. Don't worry, my treat. They know to bill me later."

"That's not what I was worried about." Ellie muttered to herself. Looking at the three men who were looking curiously in the direction of the front door. "You three, stay out of sight." She turned on her heel and went to answer the door as the bell rang a second time.

Standing on her front porch was Rey, a server at Mama's Restaurant, disheveled hair curling about his head and bright blue eyes staring down at her in joy. Ellie knew that look, mostly because she knew the runner had a crush on her, and she had turned him down before. "Morning Rey. How are you?" she nudged the dogs out of the way.

"Wonderful Ellie, how about yourself? This is quite a feast here, must have some hungry relatives visiting."

Relatives, right. "Yes they are, bit of a mishap with my oven I'm afraid. Might have to order dinner also."

"I'll be more than willing to deliver your food again, no charge."

Ellie fought the urge to rub her forehead in frustration and heard a scuffle down the hallway. This made Rey lean in the doorway to try and see who was there. "Thank you for your offer, but that wouldn't be right." She held out her hands for the bags.

Rey carefully placed the handled plastic bags on her palms, fingers brushing over her hands lightly. "Whatever you need, Ellie. If your kitchen is too damaged, I have construction experience."

Another thump was heard and Ellie frowned behind her, what were they doing? "Thank you again, but I don't think it will be necessary. I'll see you later Rey, have a good day. Enjoy the sun while it's out." Stepping back, she shut the door in his face and walked towards the hall to her study.

Ellie blinked in surprise, lifting the bags up from the noses of her dogs. Thorin had Fili and Kili in a headlock in each arm, wrestling them to the ground. Kat stood behind them amused. "What are you doing?"

Thorin exhaled sharply and released his nephews. Fili and Kili stumbled to their feet and crowded Ellie who took a step back, eyes wide.

"Who was that?" Fili demanded.

"Um, he works at the restaurant. He brought the food."

"He wants you." Kili stated through gritted teeth.

"I know." What did that have to do with them?

Before either of them could open their mouths, Thorin interrupted. "She isn't a dwarf, boys, shut up and take the food from her. It looks heavy."

The brothers unclenched their hands and took the bags, waiting for further instruction. Their eyes were shining with an emotion she hadn't seen before and looked around them to Kat. While her friend probably couldn't see their expressions, she could hear their tones.

"What's going on?"

"Nothing. Don't worry about them." Thorin waved off her concerns. "Where would you like us to set up breakfast?"

Ellie paused for a moment, looking between everyone in thought, wondering what exactly was going on. "Outside I suppose, I'm sure the kitchen still smells terrible."

"I'll show Fili and Kili outside, why don't you and Thorin grab the drinks." Kat offered.

"Um, okay. Come on, what do you three like to drink? I have juice, coffee, tea…"

Kat waited until they were in the kitchen before turning to the brothers. "You two need to calm down."

"But he was…" Kili started.

"I don't care. I can see the connection between the two of you, she cannot. And has never had much attention on her from men that she welcomed, so lay off."

"You know?"

"That you three are soul mates, yes."

Fili and Kili looked at each other. They were both Ones to a single girl. How had that happened?

Thank you all for your feedback on the previous chapter. I spent some time on a farm and have family that still does, I miss it at times.
