Sophia had only been with the company for about two months, but she hated every aspect of it.
She hated the fact that there were loopholes that could be made with every procedure of the company.
She hated the fact that there was no way for a woman, any woman, to succeed in this business, because every man in the company saw them as nothing more than secretaries. If she were running at least some part of the company, it would run ten times smoother, with no chance of failure.
And most of all, Sophia hated the women she worked with, who just upheld the stereotype that no woman could succeed in business.
Rosemary Pilkington was just a dreamer who would never get far in the company.
Miss Jones just scared her.
Lucille Krumholtz was a bore to be around.
But Sophia had made a friend in Veronica Smith, also known as Smitty. They were on their coffee break, chatting away.
"Could we get through the day without coffee?" Sophia mused.
"We'd have at least a few people in the hospital after they collapsed. You saw what happened a few weeks ago when we ran out of it, right?"
Oh yes she had. Bud was an absolute madman without his coffee.
"SOPHIA! THERE'S NO COFFEE!"
"Bud, they're probably going to get mo-"
"WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?!"
"Go away, I'm trying to work."
That,of course, was before she became his secretary.
Smitty turned her head to the entrance of the building.
"Who's the new girl?"
Sophia turned to see a young lady walk in, surrounded by what looked like every guy in the company, including Bud.
Oh, no...
Luckily, the new girl didn't seem to like Bud. At all.
Mr. Bratt told Smitty to go get Hedy (the new girl's name) started. After Bratt finished warning all the men about what would happen to them if they didn't keep their hands where they belonged, they all scattered away.
Sophia wondered who could have hired such an airhead when the World Wide Wicket Company only hired the best.
And then it hit her...
"Bud!"
He turned to her and asked, "Did you hear about the new girl?"
"Forget it! Bud, keep an eye on your uncle!"
"Why?"
"I think he may have hired her."
He looked shocked. "Whoa...I never thought of that...I'll do that!"
He ran off, presumably to go find his uncle, but not before kissing her on the cheek.
She rolled her eyes. The things that she would have to do to succeed in business...
