She woke up to a deafening scream, luckily the walls were thick so it didn't wake anyone up. She jumped up and looked over and saw Stiles with his hands covering his head and kicking his legs with his mouth wide open and screams blaring out. She quickly ran over to him and sat on the bed, she grabbed his hands and stroked his hair.
"Stiles, it's ok. You're alright. I'm here, Stiles" She spoke calmly, his screaming slowly came to a stop and he looked up at her.
"I'm so sorry. I thought it stopped" A tear dropped from his eye and fell down onto his rosy cheek.
"It's ok, it happened to me a lot too" She said "Don't worry"
"I'm sorry" He frowned "Thanks, Lydia".
She just held him for a while. He was lying down still while her legs were tangled in his, it's how the others used to stop her kicking when it happened to her. Her arms were wrapped around his chest and she was now lying down with him. She was gently stroking his arm up and down. His breathing had only just fully calmed down to a normal pace.
"I'm really sorry. You shouldn't have to deal with this. I completely understand if you want to move into a different dorm room or something" He looked up at her and she saw it in his eyes. They were helpless, lonely, beautiful. The golden specs in his eyes flickered in the moonlight as the stars were just about disappearing into the sunrise.
"I will do this every night if I have. If you ever wake up and need help. Wake me up, okay?"
"Okay" He smiled. "Thank you" He repeated quietly
"I know. You've said that already, along with sorry" She giggled. They just sat there, him in her arms, staring into each others eyes and smiling. "Come on. You should get some sleep" She smiled.
"Oh yeah. Okay" He responded, a little disappointed that she had to go back to her bed- or his bed, which ever one.
"You want me to go back in my bed?" He asked.
"Do you want to go back in your bed? It's so comfy" She smiled hopefully.
"You stay in there, it's fine" he smiled back
"but what if-"
"Lydia, it's ok. You've done more than enough for me already" He interrupted in a soft tone.
"I don't want you getting another nightmare" She responded and looked down at the floor.
"I won't, and even if I do, you will still be here" He smiled. "Night Lydia"
"Goodnight, Stiles" They both turned around and hopped into each others beds.
Lydia didn't get much sleep for the rest of the night in the fear that something bad might happen to Stiles. She couldn't understand why such a nice boy like him could have such bad nightmares, what went so wrong in his life? She was tempted to ask him about it earlier, but decided that it was the wrong time. She just laid there all night - thinking - thinking about Stiles, what made him so different from all the others. He was cute, so cute and Lydia couldn't help but smile at the thought of Stiles holding her, like she held him. However, then she got to thinking. What about the whole room mates thing? Could that affect their friendship? They might end up spending too much time together, cramped up in a little dorm room. Then she started to worry. If only she could get him to open up a little more, she just wanted to know more about him. He was interesting, not like other people she knew.
She woke up and saw the numbers '7:00' glowing from her phone screen as the alarm was beeping loudly.
"Shit" Stiles looked over to her. "Shit, Shit, Shit" She repeated
"What? Why you saying shit?" Stiles was already up and in a black pair of jeans and a stripy blue and orange shirt. "You're not late, you still have like two hours" He chuckled.
"No, I know. I'm just not prepared for today. I mean it's college. I'm in college!" She laughed "Why am I in college?!" She quickly stopped laughing "I can't be here, I'm not ready for this shit! I have no experience, I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't even know what lessons I have. What if-" She was breathing fast and waving her hands around like a maniac.
"Woah, slow down. You're fine, you are Lydia Martin the one and only. You are going to be fine and if you need anything, anytime, anywhere, you find me and I will help. I will always be there" He interrupted then walked over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"How? How can you be so nice, so caring and helpful? I don't get it!" She laughs and gave him a hug before she could stop herself. She didn't know what it was, she just pulled him into a warm hug. It took him by surprise, but then he just sank in. It was perfect - he was perfect! everything about him was amazing. His looks, his personality, his everything. Apart from his past, she didn't know a lot about his past, but she did know that something happened.
"Did you not see yourself last night? You came to help me like fricking Batman, you didn't hesitate or anything and I like that" He smiled. "Come on, you gotta get ready" He pulled out of the hug and tapped on the desk where her clothes were.
