A gunshot rang out into the night, shattering the blissful quiet and leaving a haunting silence in its wake. Harsh, panting breaths fogged the air then dissipated, only to be replaced seconds later. Ash and dust settled around the silhouette of a solitary figure, standing with a fire arm clutched tightly in his hand. The image was grimly statuesque, morbid and macabre.
Slowly, the bent form straightened, turning away from the settled particles that resided as evidence to his deed. "Damn," he muttered, breaking the silence once more. "That one gave me a bit of trouble." A sigh followed the words. There was no possible way to describe the amount of exhaustion that weighed on the young hunter's shoulders. He felt as though he would collapse at any moment.
Knowing the fatigue would only get worse if he didn't get some rest, the man trudged in the direction of the Academy. The sooner he got there, the sooner he could get clean, and the sooner he could sleep.
However, it wasn't only fatigue. Blood dripped steadily from a deep scratch on his forearm, and another on his chest. His thirst was growing worse, and he had only just managed to suppress it thus far. 'If Yuki finds me, I don't think I'll be able to stop myself...'
The thoughts were quickly banished with a shake of his silvery head. 'No, I refuse to let that happen! I guess there really is no other way, then. I'll have to do it... No matter how much it disgusts me, no matter how much I hate it, I have to go see Kuran. For Yuki's sake. I will not hurt her again. I can't.'
So, Zero made up his mind. He would return to the academy, tend his wounds, and sleep for a few hours. Then, as soon as he woke, he'd go straight to the Moon Dorms and take the bloodsuckers offer.
Kaname glared out the window as the first rays of dawn began to stream in. He had watched the hunter return a few hours prior as he was speaking with Yuki. The man was wounded, that much he could tell, but it wasn't severe. Still, the blood loss would make him thirsty soon. That meant he would be forced to come and kneel for the pureblood who would be patiently waiting.
A plan had formed in the prince's mind for that particular occasion. The argument from days before had been circling in his thoughts, and fueled Kaname's anger. Usually, he just brushed away the hunter's insolence like dirt from his sleeve, but now was different. That defiant wretch needed to be taught a lesson, quickly.
The pureblood was mildly surprised at himself. Usually, he would let the game play out so that the pawns could receive their just punishment at the end. But still, he wanted to see the level D break and fall apart. Kaname wanted the boy on his knees, apologizing. He knew that the stubborn former human would never beg his forgiveness, but he would settle an admittance of defeat.
The only way to truly break the hunter would be to demolish his pride, to strip him of every ounce of self worth that he possessed. It would be so simple, so easy, it was child's-play, really. Entertaining, to say the least. And Kaname knew just how to do it. He thought back to their previous argument, and it made him smile. Yes, he would make Zero see that he was his worst fear. Zero Kiryu would become the monster he hated the most. Kaname would see to it.
The sun rose higher in the sky, and the pureblood saw a figure approaching in the distance. A smug smirk settled across his lips, a feeling of satisfaction settling on his shoulders. It was the hunter.
'Well, this should be fun,' thought the brunette, shaking his head as he stepped away from the window. 'And so begins the game. Good luck, Kiryu. I hope you enjoy this little escapade as much as I.'
