Chapter 4: Waiting: Part 2

Haku's POV

A loud obnoxious voice screamed, "HEY DRAGON BOY!"

The peace was good while it lasted.

I groaned internally once more at the voice of one annoying weasel spirit; Lin.

Lin has been my friend for quite some time. When I started working for Yubaba she was one of the first people I met. We would always see each other majority of the time and she would always make fun of me, but it was always playful banter. She didn't admire me like every other girl had; in fact she did the complete opposite. Lin is like an older sister and no matter how much I may deny it to her face, she was very important to me.

When Chihiro left Lin and I spent more time together. We would talk more often, mostly about Chihiro. The day that I quit working at the bathhouse I felt terrible for having to leave her. Lin and Kamaji were the only ones that truly understood the relationship Chihiro and I had and what an amazing person she was. We said our goodbyes and promised to keep in contact. Of course not in a lovable way, it was actually a very blunt and straight to the point type of conversation. She threatened me to keep in contact with her or else she would come and find me herself. I laughed when she said that, but I knew she was serious.

A few months after I came back to the palace with my brothers I set up a job for Lin. I wanted her to be my assistant, for all necessary purposes. She would keep all of my servants in control and help me when I asked. I thought it would be a perfect job for her. Of course she accepted. She claimed it was to just get out of the bathhouse, but I think part of it was because she missed me.

Lin was very good at her job, she tried to help me out as much as possible and I really appreciated that, but every time I tried to relax she had to come and ruin it. Truthfully I wanted to be alone right now, but knowing Lin, she wouldn't give up until she has her word.

"I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE HAKU, DON'T MAKE ME KICK DOWN THIS DOOR"! She screamed, bringing me back to present time.

Lin was the only one that called me Haku. Even my older brothers wouldn't call me that. Mostly because I don't allow them to, but Lin doesn't care what I say most of the time.

"Lin I'm a little busy, could you come back later?" I asked, trying to get a few more minutes to myself.

"No way Haku. I'll give you 5 seconds or else I'm coming in there." She said.

I sighed, knowing she would follow through on her promise. She would come in if she pleased. I wouldn't be surprised if she did break down the door, she's done it before. Saving myself from the trouble of getting another, I lifted my hand and waved it to the right in a swift motion, opening the door.

There standing with her long hair in a messy bun with many strands falling at the sides, was Lin looking amused. She had this look on her face a lot, knowing that she was annoying me. She marched in, grabbed me by my wrist and started to drag me outside.

"Hey, where are you taking me?" I asked when she started opening many doors and pulling me along with her.

"To my office," she answered as if that was the most obvious place.

Again, Lin didn't care what I said; she would do what she wanted. She was also a lot braver than my servants, or most people for that matter. As she was taking me to her office, many of my servants stood there watching with shocked expressions. Half of them were from the female servants, blushing and giggling at my lack of clothing. The other half couldn't understand how Lin always seemed to take charge and rough me up whenever she felt like it. None of them have ever tried to treat me the same way she did, they're smart people.

We finally reached her office. She opened the door, pulled me in and locked it behind her.

I always liked Lin's office. I didn't know what her likes and dislikes were, so to save myself the trouble I allowed her to decorate everything as she pleased when she started working here.

The room was spacious, but in the shape of a square. She had very expensive taste, but in a subtle way. The room was filled with all types of mahoganies, burgundies, and golds. The mahogany color of the hardwood floors really gave a nice tone to all the burgundy furniture she had in here. There were bright burgundy chairs, a burgundy rug by the fire place, burgundy curtains, everything was burgundy. They were all also accented with gold touches. The curtains had gold swirls at the bottom, looping in endless patterns, the chairs pillows had gold framing and tassels coming off the sides, the rug had many golden flower designs. Even her mahogany desk had golden trimmings. The walls were painted a light champagne color to set everything off. The room had an amber smell, but with a little spice as well. I'm not familiar with the scent, but it had a nice rich, earthy, warm quality to it. She made it work, for her.

Lin walked over to her desk and leaned on the edge. She picked up a clip board from behind her and started looking at the information. She didn't speak for a few moments so I decided to make myself at home. I went to the couch located in the middle of the room facing the fire place and laid down horizontally. It wasn't the most comfortable of couches, but it would work for now.

While I waited for Lin to speak I started to think about Chihiro.

I could only imagine what she looks like now. Her beautiful, brown hair must be pretty lengthy after all these years. Her gorgeous chocolate brown eyes have so much depth, I get lost in them. She couldn't be too tall, compared to my 6'1 height. How I just want to hold her soft hand. Her skin was so smooth, like silk or running water. She had this nice clean smell, of some fruity type soap. I miss her so much. I just want to be right next to her, to watch her every step, to hear her sweet voice say my name. . .

"Hey, dragon boy, are you paying attention?" Lin asked snapping me out of my fantasies. Truly I was enjoying it.

"I'm sorry, repeat what you said." I asked.

"You're such a dope Haku, you know that?" it was rhetorical, so she continued. "Okay, spirits in the west need more fresh water; they've requested a new supply by next week. You have an appointment with the dragon scale doctor in a few days, don't forget that." She said, eyeing me seriously. "You and your brothers, when they get back, have to make an appearance at the dragon ball of the year and your mother would like to have tea with Chihiro when she gets here." She finished, putting down her clipboard and staring at me.

I sat up properly on the couch, processing everything she had said. The first two can be handled quite easily, although I dislike the doctor very much. The ball was a complication, only because I didn't enjoy dressing up for these occasions. Going to a ball with a whole bunch of hot headed dragons is not at the top of my to-do list. The last one left me shocked for a moment. Why would my mother want to talk to Chihiro? Not that I don't trust my mother, it just seems out of the ordinary.

I figured I would deal with the latter two when Chihiro and my brothers return.

"Thank you Lin, will that be all for today?" I asked hoping I could leave to put on clothes.

"Not really. So tell me what you're going to do when Chihiro gets here?" she asked.

"What do you mean?" I asked, a little confused.

"Oh don't play dumb with me Haku. So are you going to ask her to marry you or what?" she asked as if she already knew the answer.

"What?! No of course not Lin. Chihiro and I haven't seen each other in years. I can't just ask her to marry me." I reasoned with her, blushing a little in the process.

"Okay . . . so then ask her to be your girlfriend." She said.

"No. Stay out of this Lin. Thank you for your help, but now I have to go get dressed." I stated, getting up from the couch, heading towards the door.

She blocked the exit.

"Listen Haku, I'm warning you now for your own good. I know how much you care about Chihiro and we both know she is a very beautiful girl. When she gets here she'll be the center of attention and every male in the spirit world is going to want her. Knowing you, with your fiery temper and your possessiveness, you're going to be really protective of her. Now just do us all a favor and ask her out or at least try to make a move, so that you'll have a justifiable reason to protect her." She said in a rush.

I had to admit, Lin was right. She knew me better than I knew myself sometimes. There is no doubt that everyone will want a piece of Chihiro. Just the thought of her with any other spirit makes the fire within me burn to great lengths. I would simply dispose of anybody who tried to touch her or even get near her. I do get quite jealous, if wasn't already so obvious.

I haven't talked to Lin about my romantic feelings for Chihiro. I felt it was unnecessary for anyone, but me to know. Lin was always spot on though.

I didn't deny what she said, I simply dismissed the subject. "Enough Lin. Move out of the way or else I wi -", she cut me off before I could finish my threat.

"Oh yeah! Or else what?!" she screeched.

I sighed.

She's left me no choice.

I raised my hand a moved it to the left in a swift motion and Lin went flying across the room, landing on the couch I was just sitting on. I opened the door and started walking down the long hallway.

"OH YOU JUST WAIT! I SWEAR IF YOU THINK THIS IS OVER YOU GOT ANOTHER THING COMING, YOU HEAR ME HAKU!?" she screamed at the top of her lungs.

I just chuckled. Playing with Lin is always enjoyable.

It took a while, but after walking through many hallways and walking up the grand spiraling stairs, I made it to my room.

This palace is way bigger than it needs to be.

I thought, remembering how I would always get lost when I first got here. I always needed a servant to show me the way. I'm here now though and I need to pick out an outfit for the day. It was only noon and I haven't even dressed yet.

I opened the doors to my large walk in closet. It was a room of its own, with chairs and everything. I had a servant standing in the far corner of the room. For this task I was going to need her help.

"Iza, could you help find an outfit for today. Something relaxing, I'm not going anywhere." I explained to her. Izaberu, or Iza as I liked to call her, was one of my favorite servants. She was a lot older than me. I never asked, but she seemed about 46,000 years old. 100 years more or less. She treated me as if I was her son, and I appreciated that.

"Yes Kohaku, I have just the thing." She said pulling out a long sleeved, black button-up shirt. With dark green pants that dragged against the floor while I walked. Pants like these are very comfortable.

"Thank you Iza", I said while buttoning the shirt.

She bowed. "You look handsome as always. Chihiro won't be able to take her eyes off of you." She said, smiling and nodding her head in approval.

My cheeks heated up and must have turned light pink. This caused Iza to laugh.

"Oh Kohaku I'm just playing with you. Now go relax for as long as you can." She said bowing and dismissing herself.

I walked out of the closet and jumped on my bed. My bed was, like the rest of this palace, bigger than necessary. It could fit about 10 people. I found it ridiculous to have such a big bed when it was only me sleeping in here.

I fixed myself in the center of the bed and placed my hands behind my head. I closed my eyes and just enjoyed the silence for a little while.

Of course this didn't last long. A few minutes later I heard a voice down the hall call out my name and I was immediately aware of who it was.

The voice sang, "OH KOHAKU! WE'RE HOMEEEE!"

Okay how was it? A little too descriptive? I thought it was, but I did enjoy writing it. Keep reviewing!
