Pack Mentality

The next day started off with Scott telling Stiles and I about his dream. It started all cute and what not, he was on his first date with Allison but somehow it ends with him murdering her on a bus.

"...you killed her?" I repeated in disbelief.

"I don't know! I just woke up! I was in sweat and I couldn't breathe... I never had a dream where I woke up like that before..." Scott replied.

"Really? I have. Usually it ends a little differently." Stiles sarcastically replied.

"Tmi dude." I cringed.

"A: I said I never had a dream that made me feel that way, and B: Never give me so much detail about your dreams." Scott replied with me nodding in agreement. "No, I..I know. You think it has something to do with me going out with Allison tomorrow. Like I'm gonna lose control and throttle her out."

"No, of course not! Hey, come on, it's gonna be fine, alright? Personally I think you're handling it pretty amazingly. You know, it's not like-like there are some lycanthropy beginner classes you can take..." Stiles replied, trying to cheer him up.

"Yeah, not a class, but...maybe a teacher."

"Who, Derek!? Did you forget the part when we put him in jail?!" I retorted and thumped Scott on the back of the head.

"Yeah, I know! But...it just felt... so real." his voice trailed off.

"How real?" Stiles asked.

"Like it actually happened..." Scott replied before we open some school doors and come upon a ravaged school bus. The back door was ripped open and blood was splattered everywhere.

"...I think it did." Stiles muttered. All of a sudden Scott broke out in a panic that his dream might have actually happened.

"She's probably fine!" Stiles reassured him.

"She's not answering my texts!"

"Hmm she didn't answer mine either..."I thought out loud.

"Really?" Stiles groaned and made me put my phone up.

Scott starts freaking out again,"Just help me find her, okay?"

He rushes ahead of us and we lose him in the flurry of students filling up the hallways. When I finally find him in the next class he has a more relieved expression on his face.

"Allison's okay?" I whispered.

He turns around to me, "Thank god yes." he sighed, "Maybe it was my blood." He suddenly suggests.

That's when when we turn and look at Stiles "Or an animal's blood. You know, maybe you caught a rabbit or something..."

"And did what?"

"Eat it?" I shrugged.

"Raw?!"

"No, you cooked it in a little werewolf oven. I don't know, you don't want or can't remember anything." Stiles replied.

That's when Mr. Harris suddenly stopped the class and called us out, "Mister Stilinski! If that's your idea of a quiet whisper, you might want to take your earphones out once in awhile! I think you three would benefit from a little distance, yes?"

"No..." Stiles quietly replied.

He motions for us to move and we sluggishly split up.

"Let me know when the separation anxiety gets to be too much." The teacher teased. I scoff and take a seat in front of the class. Suddenly a girl sitting next to the window yells, "Hey, I think they found something!"

Everyone quickly rushed up and hoards around the window to see the police with a man on a stretcher, he seems unconscious.

"It's not a rabbit..." Scott whispered.

The man suddenly springs up, screaming which makes me and practically everyone else jump back.

"This is good, this is good... He got up, he's not dead! Dead guys can't do that.."

"Stiles... I did that."

"But dreams aren't memories." Stiles explained as we continue the discussion while walking through the cafeteria.

"Then it wasn't a dream! Something happened last night and I don't know what..." Scott replied.

"What makes you so sure that Derek even has all the answers?" I quickly asked.

"Because, the night of the full moon, he wasn't changed, he was in total control. I was running around in the middle of the night, attacking some totally innocent guy.."

"You don't know that."

"I don't not know it. I can't go out with Allison, I have to cancel."

"No! You're not cancelling, okay? You're not going to cancel your entire life! We'll figure it out." I try to reason with him.

All of a sudden Lydia comes over and sits with us, much to Stiles' enjoyment, and begins talking like it's nothing, "Figure what out?"

"Uhmm..homework." I lied.

"Yeah..." Stiles and Scott agree.

"Why is she sitting with us?" Stiles whispered.

All of a sudden, Allison, Danny, and two other students come and sit by us. Allison sits next to Scott and Danny sits next to me.

"Hey Andy." Danny smirked

"Hey Danny." I smiled; I've always known who Danny was but we've never actually really talked even though we're both on the lacrosse team and know the same people..

"Get up." I hear someone say and see Jackson commanding one of the students that sat down with us.

"Why don't you ever ask Danny to get up?" He retorted.

"Because I don't stare at his girlfriend's coin slot." Danny laughed.

He leaves the table and Jackson quickly takes his place. There's an awkward silence until Danny speaks up again.

"So I heard it was some kind of an animal attack...probably a cougar."

"I heard it was a mountain lion." Jackson added.

"A cougar is a mountain lion...isn't it?" Lydia says and cocks her head to the side.

"Who cares. It was probably a homeless tweaker who's gonna die anyway."

"Actually I just found out who it is, check it out." Stiles says as we all crowd around his phone.

"The sheriff department won't speculate on the details of the incident, but confirmed that the victim, Garrison Meyers, did survive at the attack. Meyers was taken to a local hospital where he remains in a critical condition."

"Wait, I know this guy!" Scott yelled.

"You do?" Allison asked, sounding surprised.

"Yeah, I used to take his bus when I went to see my dad. He was the driver-"

"Can we talk about something more fun, please? Like... Oh, where are we going tomorrow night?" Allison looks at Lydia. "You said you and Scott were hanging out tomorrow night, right?"

The rest of what happened was like watching something horrible unfurling. First of all Lydia invited herself and Jackson to Scott and Allison's "hang out," whatever that meant and then it just kept going downhill from there. Jackson and Scott of course got into it which ended with Scott proclaiming he was great at bowling.

"You're a terrible bowler!" Stiles and I yelled at Scott as we walked through the halls.

"I know! I'm such an idiot!" Scott replied.

"It was like watching a car accident. First it turns to a group date thing and after that comes that phrase from nowhere-"

"Hanging out.." Scott finished.

"You don't hang out with hot girls. It's like death. Once you're hanging out, you might as well be her gay best friend. You, Danny and Andy can start hanging out.

"Hey-" I nudged him.

"Sorry." Stiles apologized.

"Speaking of Danny-" I started.

"How is this happening? I might have killed a guy, or maybe I didn't..." Scott interrupted.

"I don't think Danny likes me very much." Stiles said.

"I asked Allison on a date and now we're...we're hanging out."

"Am I attractive to gay guys?" Stiles asked and turned to me.

"Did I act strange around Danny at lunch?" I speak up, ignoring whatever conversations were going on.

"I made it to first line and the captain of the team wants to destroy me and now...now I'm gonna be late for work!" Scott said as he looked at the time and darted off.

"I gotta go. Talk to you later." I speak up and walk off, leaving Stiles alone with his thoughts.

"Wait! Andy! You didn't...Am I attractive to gay guys!?..You didn't answer my question.."

The next night I was just beginning to fall asleep when I suddenly hear my phone ring and let out a groan before finally picking it up, "Hello.." I speak up with a groggy and slightly annoyed voice.

"Are you sleeping?" Stiles exclaimed.

"Of course I'm sleeping, what do you want?"

"I came to Scott to tell him about the bus driver...he died," Stiles began to explain and I quickly sat up ready for what else he had to say, "Yeah and when I told Scott he stormed out of here like a madman. I think he blames Derek for it, you have to get there before something bad happens."

I let out a big groan and jump out of bed. I quickly snuck out of the window and hopped on my bike towards the Hale House. Before long I finally arrived and as I got closer I could hear Scott's voice, "I'm gonna tell everyone starting with the Sheriff."

"Scott!" I shout and burst through the door. I see him at the top of some stairs and he's staring down at me.

"Andy? What are you doing here?" He shouted back.

And just like that Derek appears out of nowhere. "Scott watch out! I tried. But I was too late when I saw him hurl Scott down the flight of stairs and he landed at my feet.

"Scott!" I exclaimed and quickly tried to help him up but he doesn't respond. Instead his head shoots up and I see his eyes had turned a yellow-amber color. I slowly stand up and back away as Scott gets up, his claws are bared and his fangs are out. There's something different though he seems to have fully wolfed out. He finally rises and lets out a monstrous roar as Derek jumps the flight of stairs and lands hard beside Scott. I quickly got out of the way when Scott swiftly grabbed Derek's neck and chucked him through a wall. He landed with a crash, along with some broken wood chips. I step back further realizing how much of a bad idea this actually was.

"That was cute." Derek commented, as he picked pieces of wood off of him. He stood up and dusted himself off and suddenly let out a roar that shook me down to my core, but didn't seem to affect Scott at all. I watched from the sides as the two werewolves duked it out. There were punches being thrown, claws lashed out, and bodies hitting the ground. Their growls and snarls made it sound like two wild animals

Minutes later I heard Scott panting for breath and peeked through the hole in the wall to see him knelt over and struggling in pain as Derek loomed over him. I don't know what happened next but I suddenly picked up a bigger piece of wood and ran over and whacked Derek as hard as I could. The wood snapped in half but Derek didn't seem to be phased at all he just slowly turned and let out a low growl.

I quickly retreated beside Scott, "...I'm sorry..please don't eat me."

"I didn't kill him, neither of us did. It's not your fault and it's not mine." Derek calmly explained.

"This? This is all your fault! You ruined my life!" Scott yelled.

"No I didn't." Derek replied.

"You're the one who bit me!" Scott cried, blaming Derek.

"No, I'm not." He finally admitted.

"What?" I spoke up

"I'm not the one that bit him."

I looked to Scott; he looked like he was trying to remember something, "There's another.." He realized.

"It's called an alpha. It's the most dangerous of our kind. You and I, we're betas. This thing is more powerful, more animal than either of us. My sister came here looking for it. Now I'm trying to find it, and I don't think I can do it without you."

"Why me?"

"Because he's the one that bit you. You're part of his pack. It's you. You're the one he wants."
