Hampton's heat

chapter 4

Castle's Hampton House: Backyard Pool area

A moment later, when Beckett emerges from the house in the bathing suit that fit her like a glove, Castle, was floating lazily on an inner tube, with his eyes shut, soaking up some rays.

"It's a perfect fit, Castle." He glances her direction just in time to catch her shooting him that stunning smile, the one that she started making every time that he brought her coffee. "I think that I'll let you buy all my cloths from now on." She jokes with him. With that comment, he was having a hard time reminding himself that his intent of this invitation was a pleasant interlude, not a prelude to seduction. But at the sight of her fit, curvaceous body in the cherry red bathing suit, and the way that plunging neckline drew his eyes, irresistibly to the hollow between her breasts, he wondered how he was going to keep himself from carrying her off there and then.

His mind was lost in the memories of how her skin had felt against his palm, and the rush of feeling her responses had evoked in him all year.

He swallows to collect himself as he watches her slip into the pool, and he wonders if she, too was aware of how charged the atmosphere was between them.

"I have lots of talents you probably haven't suspected yet." He responds and saw her eyes widen as she took in the intended meaning of his words.

"I'm sure that you do." she murmurs back letting herself float in the water trying to kept her hair from getting wet.

He slides off the inner tube letting the water hide his growing arousal. He made himself pause and consider what was going on here. Than pushes himself off the side of the pool, swimming lazily towards her.

She heard the splash that he made and was trying to keep out of his reach. But she's forgotten how tricky it was to maneuver under water. The water seemed to have a mind of its own. It drifted her towards him or was it him that was drifting towards her. She wasn't sure. She tries to stop a couple of feet from him, but she hadn't planned it soon enough. Without meaning to, she gilds right into him, and hears him inhale suddenly as he gathers her to him. It was like being cradled by a water-god, she thought hazily.

"I might not have suggested this earlier if I had known it was going to excite your murderous tendencies to have a tight death grip on me." he said.

"Speaking of excited tendencies," she couldn't resist it. The way his nearly naked body made her feel was too in soundly seductive. She let the gentle motion of the water rock her hips against his, and felt his need for her growing as the wave-like rhythm created an erotic caresses. He tries to move away but an unexpectedly strong wave pushes her more intimately against him and she gasp as the very core of her body responds to the movement.

"It feels like the pool's got other ideas for us, doesn't it?" he jokes with her.

"I don't think we can blame the pool for this one. Castle," another wave pushes them closer to each other. "After all, it all started after you lunged towards me."

"uh excuse me? This...was.." another wave causes them to start to drift as one towards the deeper middle of the pool.

"The waves... were made..." Beckett's voice was as husky as his, it sounded as though she was struggling against a hunger that she could not contain.

She lifts her eyes to his and saw that their brilliant color were nearly eclipses by the darkness of his desire. She wondered if her own eyes were as dark, and whether that accounted for the sudden tightening of his Castle's grip as he looks back down at her.

"You're not safe, woman." he growls, "neither am I." For a long moment she thought he was going to kiss her, and she found herself aching for his kiss but he was still holding himself back and suddenly she needed to know why.

"Castle?" her voice sounded uncertain then she had before, "You seem..." distracted, she wanted to say or was it angry. But at what? she thought. He just held her against the wet strength of his chest a moment longer, and then let her go, backing off slowly. Her eyes glancing up trying to read his. what's wrong him? Did I? What did I do that was wrong? It was all his idea and what did he mean by we're not safe.

"What are we not safe from?" she could see that struggle in his face.

"You know where this might lead." She felt him pull her even closer, felt her breasts crushed against him and her hips meeting his in an intimate preview that left her gasping. His fingers trickled across her bare back and against her neck like rivulets of warm water, and with every move he made only increased the hunger inside her. She was losing herself in pure sensation of being in his arms.

"If I hold you like this for one more minute, I can not be responsible for what happens," just one more minute she thought I can't bare another second, she swallows. But I can't move away if I wanted to. The pool wont allow me to.

"And that's a bad thing?" she answers without thinking, as he let's go and floats towards the other end of the pool.

"The connection, it was there long before today. I just can't...I thought..." his words fade away as he shook his head. "I can't..."

"Wha?" Isn't that my line? Aren't I the one who should be stopping him, then running away, not the other way around. Than his words came back to her 'I just want to show you a good time.' and I thought he meant...

"That's not how I want to do this."

"Do what?" she knew exactly what he meant, she could feel it too. "It's like you said," she tries to down play it but she knew that she couldn't handle it either. "It's just two friends enjoying company." a little too much she wanted to add to her comment.

"It's...more." he held his tongue from saying what was really on his mind. To me it is, I'm falling more in love with you everyday Beckett, and I can't stop myself but can I trust in it again?

Love, to both of them, had always been a two-edged sword, and for him at least, he felt he was perilously close to cutting himself on that particular blade again. He wanted to believe that he wouldn't feel pain again and that this time it would be different. He shook the thought from his mind when he heard her answer him back.

"More than what?" she shot back at him wanting to know what else he was going to tell her.

"There's something between us, you and me and..."

"and...wait what?" so he feels it too...is that why? she swallows, it's...

"We both know it is." He turns back to face her. She couldn't tell if he was crying or he just had water dripping off his face. Either way, he looked sad, lost, and heart-broken.

He could see that faraway look in her eyes, the very expression. Castle suspected that she was fighting her own desires, her own memories of her tragic past. He just hoped that soon the walls would fall for both of them and they could share new life that he saw in her eyes every time they were together.

"It's impossible to ignore. Well, at least for me..." he continues on telling her.

He read it in her eyes the first day they met and since then they had come closer with each other. Deeper than just colleges, closer than friends and with the way that he felt right now more than partners.

He rubs his eyes with his hand. "You wouldn't understand Beckett." He turns his face from hers.

"I wouldn't understand? I..." she wanted to shout back to him about her mother but he already knew about that. Knew about her pain.

Maybe he is right. maybe I don't understand. Maybe he is hiding from you? What? why would he? what could be so hurtful that he won't talk to me about it? We talk about everything... not everything...did you ever ask him why he banters back and forth with you? Well no, it never came up...Why am I talking to myself when I need to be talking to him.

"Castle, talk to me. Why are you..." she sighs, and glances at him. "Please talk to me."

Recklessly, he pushes himself off the side of the pool and approaches her again. This time, unlike her, he was able to stop just short of touching her, but the water between them felt super charged as though their slippery bodies had been jolted into action, causing the water to heat.

"I..." he clears his throat. He never admitted to anyone, not even his mother why his marriages really failed. He told his mother that it was him that was not in love with his wifes anymore, but that wasn't true. He never told his mother the real reasons, that both of them were just using him, and not really in love with him, like he thought, at the time that he was with them.

He trusted them and then got burned. Meredith cheated, even though she said she knew nothing about him. He was the one who didn't know her at all. And Gina, well she was using him to make herself look good-he found this out later. He trusted his heart and well it lead him wrong. Now could he trust his heart again?

"It's..." When he hesitated again Beckett thought she knew what he was about to say. She was thinking it too.

"You can't trust anyone to get too close to you, right?" She supplied for him. That's exactly how she felt. She didn't want to fall in love and then have if ripped from her, cutting her to her core. She went through that with her mother and the pain never went away. She had been deceived once before by a man she thought was in love with her, and then there was Agent Sorenson. He got up and just left her not considering what it would do to her, that's when she really built up her wall. But now with Castle she felt that connection again. She was starting to fall in love with him. She could feel him getting closer to her and there was nothing that she could do to stop it.

Castle blinks a few times, then kept his eyes closed, "Something like that," he admits to her. She could feel him swallow.

"Not even when you feel," she just lets the swaying movement of the water bring them against each other again. Beckett knew his whole frame was singing with the same longing that filled her. "like this." He closes his eyes, still trying to fight his heart's desire, and then let out a long breath as he closes his arms around her. He breaths against her hair. "That's it stay here in my arms we both need this." She hugs him back.

"Beckett? I..."

"Shhhh, Castle, just enjoy this," I know that I'm she wanted to add, but right now she wanted to comfort him. To make him feel safe just like he was making her feel.

She hadn't known, until just now, how much he needed her as much as she needed him. How much trust he put in her, it seemed to be combined with hers as in equal parts. They needed each other and that was all there was to it.

"This is so good." he softly, slips his hands in the silken strands of her short hair, sliding some of her hair back from her face.

"I want." he whispers against her ear in a slightly threatening tone, feeling her shiver.

"I want..." she whispers back, arching into him, without knowing the rest of what he was thinking. "your hands," she murmured "Wrapped around me like this hold me forever." she wanted to finish her thought. oh those strong hands touching, caressing me, massaging me...

"You have the most gorgeous eyes, a beautiful mouth."

"That's telling you to shut up and kiss me." she responds, hoping to entice him just to let go and trust her. She was already trusting her heart to him. But he didn't, he went on ranting to her.

"I love your hair," he says, winding his hands through it, again burying his face in her neck. "I love the smell of it.. how it invades me..."

There he goes again changing the subject on me. I have to change it back. She thought.

"Do you know how many times, I thought about the things those lips of yours could do to me. Oh the many things."

That they can. he wanted to say, but held back. This is just suppose to be relaxing...then just kiss her for crying out loud, what's the harm in one little kiss. his mind answers him. Just one. I want...I won't be able to stop at just one. I'm sure you do but for now,...Castle glances up at her then without a second thought cups her face.

Finally he got it through his head Beckett said to herself. She tilts her head and he softly brushes his lips against hers. Then increase the kiss.

Against his mouth, she slides her tongue over his bottom lip, loving his taste as her hands delighted in the strong, corded muscles of his forearms, thick mass of his shoulders. At the moment, she didn't care about anything but having him here with her like this, being in his arms. She was tired of fighting, tired of wanting something and not having it. To hell with the complications. It was so much nicer to think about the big man pressing against her and how by some miracle, he made her feel delicate. Sexy. Feminine. It was something she didn't even know that she craved, until the instant Castle glared at her in the swimsuit he bought her. He slowly slid his fingers under the strap, pulling it so her shoulder was bare kissing her softly, gently being seductive making her toes curl up. "Like silk." he murmured into her throat, nipping the flesh there and then kissing it again as his hands fan over her. She barely notices as he maneuvers them farther away from the middle of the pool.

Beckett out of the corner of her eyes sees the inner tube floating by, the one that Castle was laying on earlier. What's he thinking? she asks herself. Is he thinking the same thing that I'm?

To be continued...
