Later that day Fairy Tail had its preliminary match. The match was supposed to be simple so that the contestants would be ready for the tournament.
"The match for today is an obstacle course" Mira announced over the system.
Everyone that wanted to participate in the tournament was gathered in the hall waiting for the match to start. Lucy still forced herself to come even though she was sick because she wanted to see who would be picked to participate in the tournament.
"An obstacle course?" someone asked.
"This should be a piece of cake!" someone else shouted.
There were at least thirty people gathered here. The rest was afraid they were going to lose.
'I wonder why' Lucy thought.
"The obstacle course will begin at the edge of the city" Mira announced."You are to follow the course and come back around to the other side of the city and make your way back to Fairy tail within the time limit. The time limit is two hours plus a countdown of five minutes."People all around nodded their heads at the news."The match will begin in twenty minutes. Please make your way over to the starting line."
The participants began the walk to the edge of the city.
"Hey Lucy!" a voice called from in the crowd.
Natsu and Gray were making there way over to Lucy, not without fighting all the way to her of course. When they finally made it to her they momentarily stopped fighting.
"What 'sup Luce" Natsu said."Are you ready for me to win that crystal for ya?"
"Hold up flame for brains" Gray interrupted."We both know that i'm going to win that crystal and kick your butt."
"Like you can Ice princess"
"I sure will Fire clown!"
"Stripper!"
"Pinkie!"
"We will have to wait and see won't we?" Lucy interrupted not wanting to go through a drawn out argument again.
"Right" Natsu and Gray replied at the same time.
"Hey you guys" Lucy started seeing the tension between the two."You do know Erza and Mira are participating right?"
"What?" the two asked.
"Erza's participating!" Natsu asked seeming a little panicked."I thought she was just going to help out."
"She finished her mission up early so she could make it back in time for the tournament" Lucy explained then sneezed."Achoo!"
"Woah you sure you alright Lucy" Gray leaned over and put a hand on her forehead."You seem kinda warm. Maybe you should head home."
"Im fine"Lucy protested."You two should head over to the starting line now."
"Not before you head home" Gray said.
"Yeah go home Lucy we'll be just fine" Natsu said.
"But" Lucy started to protest.
"They're right you should get home lucy"
The three turned to look to find who the voice belonged to. They saw Erza heading their way with a blue lacrama in her hand.
"Here" Erza handed the lacrima over to Lucy."Mira said you can watch the Preliminary match with that at home while you rest."
"Thank you" Lucy accepted the lacrima and began to turn it over.
"She said it will turn on when the Match starts" Erza continued. She then looked over at Natsu and Gray."Let's go you two."
"Yes ma'am" they said and saluted. They then began their way over to the start of the match.
"Well I guess Ill head home then" Lucy said out loud as she made her way home.
She didn't notice the figure that followed behind her.
