Thank you all for the kind reviews(: I'm not so sure about this one, so reviews would be very nice.

Castle stood in his room after the hour long shower. Who would've thought that a place like his would run out of hot water? Well, it had, and it had sort of sucked since he had just gotten out of a freezing freezer. Now he was looking for something to wear, but his mind was processing anything. All it was processing was 'I need to get to the hospital to see Kate.' That was the only thing he could think of.

Because he loved her.

Grabbing a pair of jeans and a dark blue button down shirt, he pulled them on followed by his socks and shoes before he walked out of the room and into the living room. Seeing Alexis on the couch reading a book (the old fashioned way, not with one of the new technological books), he gave her a quick, pathetic looking smile as he headed for the door.

"Dad, where are you going?" Alexis set the book down, standing up and going to her dad, looking at him. He'd just gotten out of a freezer, and that was all she knew. She didn't know anything about what was happening. Or why it was happening.

"Sweetie, I love you. I need to go make sure Kate is going to make it." Castle grabbed his daughter and encircled her with his muscular arms, squeezing her until she was begging for breath.

"Dad, what's going on?" Alexis knew that her father loved her unconditionally, but saying 'I love you' before he explained where he was going was just a bit suspicious. Even when he was being sentimental.

Castle knew his daughter wasn't stupid and she could handle things for herself. He had sworn not to tell anyone about the case, but he needed to prepare her, right? So, he was going to… maybe.

"Alexis. This case that I'm working on… well it's complicated. I tried to get you out of the city for when it happened, but you came back and now we don't have any time left. Eleven hours ago Kate and I found a dirty bomb that read '13 hours' and some odd minutes. It's been eleven hours since we saw that, and if they haven't found it, the dirty bomb is set to explode in two hours." Castle could see the fear on his daughter's face, and he instantly regretted telling her.

"I'm going to go see Kate one last time, then I'll come back before the second hour is up and you me and mother will spend the rest of that time together." The tear that rolled down the girl's cheek broke his heart, but he knew that it was better that she knew then her not knowing and then suddenly being gone. Wrapping his arms around her, his kissed the top of her head before he grabbed his jacket and ran out the door.

An hour had gone by since the first spike in her temperature. A nurse would come by regularly to make sure she was still breathing and to add another heating blanket if necessary. The only bad thing was that her body wasn't warm enough, and in turn, that caused problems. She had a machine breathing for her and she had her blood pressure, pulse and temperature checked every two minutes, so anyone who knew how to read it would know that she was very much alive. That was a step towards what they all wanted.

Lanie sat in a chair next to Kate's bed, her hand on her best friend's. She'd been there ever since they let them go into the room she was currently staying in. Lanie knew all the medical jargon they were talking about when they were speaking about Kate to others, and truthfully, Lanie hated what they were saying.

Every time they would speak, they would finish with something along the lines of 'she's a cop, we need to save her.' Well what if she wasn't a cop? What if Castle and Beckett's positions were reversed and she was the civilian and she was shadowing Castle? Would they try this hard to save her, or would they've just called the time of death when they saw her temperature? All those questions raced through the ME's head as she sat there, her eyes never leaving her friend's face.

A beep would go through the room periodically, indicating that her temperature was rising. And every time that happened, Lanie would look to see what it was. An hour later, the temperature was up 9.6 degrees. She was so close to 90 degrees, and every time that beep went through that room, hope would continue to go through Lanie's body.

Esposito walked into the room after sitting in the cafeteria for about twenty minutes as he attempted to get some food in his stomach. The look of his boss' freezing body and the color leaving her face turned it upside down, though, causing him to gag at any type of food that he saw. So he decided to get Lanie to make sure she at least moved from the position she had been in for an hour.

"Lanie. You need to eat or drink something. If not, at least move your limbs so I know you're still alive." Poor choice of words right there. Shaking his head, he looked at the ground, his eyes glancing at Lanie to see the glare she was throwing his way.

"She's almost dead, and you want to know if I'm dead? Javier, Kate might not make it! Her temp is only at…" Lanie paused and turned to look at the monitor to read the numbers. Shaking her head, she let her body go limp as she put her head in her hands.

Esposito wasn't sure why it made her so upset. Her temperature was up to 89.9, which was good. She was pulling through, she was fighting. Moving slightly, he kneeled in front of Lanie, putting his index finger under her chin and pulling her face up so she was looking at him. Her eyes were rimmed red from the crying and they were swollen. She tried to pull away, but he didn't let her. Shaking his head slightly, he took her hand in his, intertwining their fingers.

"Lanie, everything is going to be alright. You know Beckett. She's going to get through this. We haven't lost her." Esposito stood up, pulling her body up with his and wrapping his arms around her slender body. Holding her close, he felt her arms wrap around his torso and that's when the crying began again. His hands made soft circles on her back, attempting to sooth her. Lanie Parish wasn't a crier, everyone knew that. Both Beckett and Lanie were the same in that area. It was rare to see them cry, and no one knew how to make them stop.

Walking out of the room with Lanie in tow, Esposito saw Castle rushing down the hallway, his eyes frantic, most likely searching for Kate's room. First he sees Lanie and Esposito exiting what had to be Kate's room. Ryan was sitting with Jenny's head on his shoulder, then the Captain, his eyes on the ground.

His eyes went to the ground, stopping in his run as he saw Lanie in tears. She was in freakin' tears! Lanie was like Kate, and Castle knew that Kate never cried. Therefore, Lanie never cried. Unless…

Kate hadn't made it.

Shaking his head, Castle made his way towards the group, looking in the room only to see Kate on the bed, a tube down her throat and a nurse that was wrapping a blanket around her body. A sigh of relief left his lips as he made his way into the room.

"Who are you?" The nurse's voice broke through Castle's thoughts as he looked at her, giving her a small smile.

"I'm Richard Castle. This is my partner." Castle kept his eyes on the girl in the bed, fighting the temptation to touch her to make sure she's real. He took the chair that Lanie had been occupying earlier and he slowly let his hand covers her that was by her side. Feeling the coldness radiating off her hand, he took some of the blanket and put it over his hand, covering hers as well.

There were beeps in the room, causing Castle to look at the monitor. He could see her blood pressure, her pulse and her temperature on the screen. The only number that changed was her temperature.

"She knows her boyfriend's here." The nurse gave the writer a small smile, recording the temperature rise to 93 degrees. This was a definite improvement, and she knew that he would take care of her.

Castle didn't even bother to tell the nurse they were dating. All he cared about was that she was going to make it. She was alive.
