What Really Happened in Budapest
Chapter 4 Happily Never After?
Clint had spent a month and a half at Avengers Tower getting to know his daughter Clair. He found out she had quite the ability at drawing and dancing. She must have gotten the dancing from Nat, but then again, some would argue Clint did a dance on the high ropes in the circus days. He was teaching her about the bow and arrow and how to shoot and she was quite good at it, almost a natural, like he had been. She was already learning to speak Russian since Nat was Russian, and again he was amazed at how smart and talented his daughter was.
He was glad Nat had finally told him. He was enjoying being a dad. He often played games with her and he'd even read her a few bedtime stories. His spare room in his apartment had since been converted into a kids bedroom for Clair and she loved it. Of course, with Tony decorating it, it had ended up being pink and princessy but Clair didn't mind at all.
It had been a month and a half and Nat was due to get out of the hospital the following week. He and she were going to have to sit down and talk about this, but until then, he continued to visit her every day, and of course he brought Clair along with him. But today they were going to stop by the park first and then go see Nat. They had just gotten ice cream when it happened.
"Well, if it isn't Agent Barton, it's been a long time," Clint blinked in surprise. It was never good when he heard those words, but this time it was the worst thing ever.
Clint shoved Clair protectively behind him and pulled out a dagger hidden in his boot, "What do you want! Thought you were suppose to be locked up!"
"Boss" was standing in front of Clint with a smirk. Clint hadn't seen him since he had almost died because of the drug he had created. Now, of course, Shield had the antidote, because if they hadn't gotten that, Clint would already be dead.
"I must say Agent Barton, you are looking very good for someone who is suppose to be dead," Boss continued.
"Yeah, well I guess I eat right and work out enough to be alive," Clint spat back. He was now watching all corners around him and slowly backing up, always keeping Clair protected. The hospital was right across the street and there were a dozen or more Shield agents on patrol there. If he could just get Clair there, she would be safe.
"You know Barton, I never pegged you as a family man. You were always so independent," Boss said looking around him at the girl hiding behind him. "She looks to be what, six, maybe seven?"
Clint growled, his dagger poised and ready, "You are going to stay the hell away from her before I slit your throat for even daring to look at her!"
"Well, I'd say she's about the age of when we first met, wouldn't you? Could this be the love child you and Agent Romanoff sired when you were going to die," he asked smoothly as other men started to close in.
Clint kicked the man in the face and then again in the gut, knocking him backwards. The other men were still not close enough, but they were coming. Clint bent down next to Clair and looked her in the eyes.
"Clair, I need you to run to the hospital where mommy is. It's only across the street, you can see it right there. I am going to distract these guys so you can get there and then I will join you. All you have to do is get to the front door and you will be safe, okay?"
Clair looked very afraid, "B…But what about you? You need to get away too…"
"I've been trained for this Clair, I know how to defend myself, I will be fine. I took this guy down once before, I can do it again. But I can't fight him and protect you, so I need you to run, do you understand me? Tell mommy that it's daddy had to stay behind because of Budapest, she will understand…Now RUN!" Clint pushed her forward and into the road as the "Boss" was getting to his feet and the men finally arrived.
Clair had tears in her eyes as she ran, worried about her daddy. One of the men pursued her, but Clint tossed his throwing knife at the man and it hit him in the back of the neck and went all the way through and the guy dropped. Clair reached the hospital doors as Clint was taken down. Neither she nor Clint knew that the guard, dressed in Shield attire, was actually one of Boss's men in disguise. He had killed the Shield officer there and taken his uniform. However, the message had been sent. Clint was unprepared for this but he was still an Avenger and he had pressed his SOS the moment he saw the other men.
Meanwhile, Clint was taken down by five men but he still struggled. "Boss" walked up to them and looked down at Clint with a frown.
"Did you get the girl," the boss asked into his walkie talkie.
"Yeah boss, girl is secure and we're taking her in now," a voice responded and Clint's heart sank. He hadn't seen her enter the hospital because he'd been fighting too hard, trying to keep the men away.
"Well now, Agent Barton, it would seem like you are the one at the disadvantage yet again. Now, we're going home and you're coming with us, you and your girl," Clint struggled more at this.
"Leave the girl out of this! So help me if you hurt her…!"
"Enough Barton! Listen to me and listen well, I have your girl and while I don't like hurting children, I will. However, I needn't hurt her. If you do everything I say, well then, I suppose that will work as a protection, won't it? And if you are really good, I might even let you see her again." Clint growled in anger as he started to struggle, but a cry of fear over the walkie talkie caused him to still. Clair had cried out in fear! "That's right Barton, I have her and I will hurt her if you don't do what I tell you!"
Clint stopped fighting the five guys holding him down and glared up at Boss, "Yeah, and what is it you want," he spat.
"Well for starters, I want you to be my star. Clint Barton the stripper. Although, because I don't want your new friends finding you, you won't be going by 'Clint,' your name will be 'Jones' just like it was back then. You will be working for me and will do whatever I tell you!"
"This seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through just because I didn't die," Clint muttered, but he still didn't fight them as they hiked him up and into the back of an unmarked van with painted windows.
"Yeah, well, I know your lover Widow is the mother of this kid and I still haven't paid her back for killing my brother. It will either be you or the kid who pays the price, but that choice will be up to you."
Clint glared at the man as they drove off, "You won't touch our kid!"
"So once again you are volunteering to be my gunny pig? How very noble and stupid of you. Although, it makes no difference to me, if you want to take Widow's punishment then that's fine with me. I never have really cared for killing kids anyways."
Clint glared at him, "So now what?"
"Now you take a nap and when you wake up, we'll be ready for you to get dressed for your new job as a stripper," and with that said, a rag was placed over Clint's face and he could smell the chloroform but he couldn't fight it because they punched him hard in the stomach and knocked the wind out of him, so he inhaled. His last thought was that he would do whatever this man said, he'd do anything, just to protect his little princess.
Sorry, I know I kidnapped his daughter right along with him. Originally I was going to have them just take Clint and the girl get to safety but then I thought they'd find him right away. And I am sorry, I like drama, and I like a pissed off Russian red-head spy named Nat, going after anyone who dares touch her bird or her daughter. Anyways, don't fear, I will not let any harm come to Clair, and I will not kill off Clint, I love my Hawk too much to kill him. However, Clint will have to face some humiliation before he is finally freed, just a fair warning.
