A/N: Poofy skirts are the only way to go. Jerry Bruckheimer owns these characters. Not me. Not Helka. It saddens us.
Meanwhile, Kelsey by some miracle had found her way to the prison on her own. All the guards were long gone, so she just snuck inside. Jack was trying to pick the lock (unsuccessfully might I add) and Kelsey grinned at the sight of it.
He saw her and said dryly, "Your idea of going to the smithy landed me here, thank you very much."
She pouted and shuffled her skirts, "I was just trying to help you know."
"Of course, lady."
Getting a bit pissed off now, she asked him, "My name happens to be Rose, not 'lady'. And do you want to get out of there or not?"
He rolled his eyes, "How, Rose? You don't have a key, and the dog that does ran off ages ago."
She smirked, "I have a friend who's a blacksmith. He'll be coming soon, and if you play your cards right, you'll be out of here soon enough."
Jack grinned, "I like the way you think lass." She grinned back. Just then, I came in with Will. They looked at us.
"Hi Mary!" Kelsey said with a grin, "Hello Will."
"Hello, K-er, Rose!" I said, almost forgetting our little charade. Will walked over to Jack's cell while Kelsey and I lounged against the wall.
"Sparrow!" Will said quickly.
"Aye." Jack said, barely looking up from admiring his nails.
"You are familiar with the ship, The Black Pearl?"
Jack answered airily, "I've heard of it."
"Where does it make berth?" Will demanded.
"Why ask me?"
"Because you're a pirate."
"Well, obviously!" Kelsey said. I nudged her.
"Quit it, you're ruining the dialogue!" I whispered.
"And you want to turn into a pirate yourself, is that it?" Jack asked, a grin forming on his lips.
"Never!" Will spat, "They took Miss Swann!"
"So?" I muttered. Thankfully, Will didn't hear that.
"Oh, so it is that you've found a girl. I see. Well, if you're intending to brave all, hasten to her rescue and so win fair lady's heart you'll have to do it alone, mate. I see no profit in it for me."
"I can get you out of here." Will said with a smirk.
"How?"
"I helped build these cells."
"And got no credit for it." I muttered.
"They're half pin-barrel hinges. With the right leverage and the proper application of strength… the door will lift free." He said, a smug grin on his face.
"Yeah!" Kelsey and I cheered. Will smiled at us.
"What's your name?" Jack asked.
"Will Turner." Will replied.
"That will be short for William, I imagine. Good, strong name. No doubt, named for your father, eh?"
"Yes." Will said, looking confused as to why he asked such a stupid question.
"Uh-huh. Well, Mr. Turner, I've changed me mind. If you spring me from this cell I swear on pain of death I shall take you to the Black Pearl and your bonny lass. Do we have an accord?" Jack said, looking up from his nails.
"Agreed."
"Isn't that sweet? The little boys came to a truce!" Kelsey said. We all rolled our eyes. Kelsey looked around.
"What?" After Will broke open the iron cells doors, we headed back to the blacksmith shop, taking care that Jack would not steal anything on the way. Once we were back there, they sat down, and we sat down, too.
"Now, remind me why you two ladies are here?" Jack asked, his elbows splayed on the table.
"Elizabeth is our friend, and we want to make sure she gets back here safely." I snapped, not even trying to make them see the bonds of female friendship.
"Uh-huh." Jack replied skeptically.
Kelsey added, "And besides, like we'd leave you two to fend for yourselves. We're coming."
Will protested, "But Rose, Mary, the Governor will be worried sick about your disappearance too!"
I sighed, "I doubt he cares, his only daughter probably takes precedence in this situation."
Kelsey said with a smirk, "Besides, if you don't take us with you, I'll find the Commodore and get you both locked away!"
Will turned pale, but Jack scoffed, "You're bluffing!"
"Do you really want to take the chance that I'm not?" She leaned both of her elbows on the table and secretly laughed. She was pleased to see a faint blush on her pirate's face.
"Fine, lass. You know when a man's cornered." Jack said with a sigh.
Will still didn't look to enthusiastic about our coming. "Won't those dresses make it difficult to move around quickly in?" He said hesitantly.
I smiled broadly, "Oh, don't worry about that. We'll 'borrow' some from the lovely shop next door."
Both men were defeated, and Kelsey and I gave each other our little handshake.
Getting back to business, Jack said, "Let's get planning, savvy?"
Early the next morning, we met Will and Jack by the docks. Kelsey had 'borrowed' us some breeches, boots and shirts. No more corsets! Whoo! We were now much more mobile. (And comfortable too!)
Will stared at the Dauntless and asked weakly, "We're going to steal the ship. That ship?"
Jack interrupted, "Commandeer. We're going to commandeer that ship. Nautical term. One question about your business, boy, or there's no use going. This girl – how far are you willing to go to save her?"
Will said softly, "I'd die for her." I looked at him sadly, it must have been so hard for him. I know it would have killed me to have Kelsey go missing, and I squeezed her arm with worry.
"Oh good. No worries then." Jack replied perkily.
We then grabbed a rowboat and scuttled into the water. God only knows how stupid we must have looked. It was pretty nifty though, there was a convenient air bubble thing so we could all breathe. I was walking in front of Will and Kelsey was behind Jack in case you wanted to know.
"This is either madness or brilliance." Will remarked in amazement.
Jack replied airily, "It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide." We then all shimmied up the side of the ship, and Jack yelled, "Everyone stay calm! We are taking over the ship."
Will attempted to sound like a pirate and yelled half-heartedly, "Aye! Avast!" The men then laughed their heads off. He turned red, and I sent a comforting glance to him.
The captain guy said with a laugh, "This ship cannot be crewed by two men."
"Excuse me!" Kelsey cried angrily, putting her hands on her hips.
The captain went on as if she never said anything, "You'll never make it out of the bay."
Jack pointed his pistol at the man's nose. "Son…I'm Captain Jack Sparrow. Savvy?"
Kelsey grabbed the captain's arm with a grin and proceeded to lead him to the lifeboat. Jack, Will and I did the same for other members of the crew. I laughed and waved a simpering good-bye when we cut them loose.
Then the Commodore and his lackeys ran out on the deck of the Interceptor when they heard the captain yelling. They then set their course right at us.
"Here they come." Will breathed. I sighed.
I had seen several lengths of rope before so I grabbed them and went over to Jack. "Would these be of any use?" I asked, dumping them in his arms.
He grinned, "Thank you, very much so."
After throwing the ropes over to the Interceptor when it got close to us, we all swung onto the ship and laughed heartily as the Commodore, the captain and his lackeys frantically searched for us on the Dauntless.
"Whohoo!" Kelsey and I yelled. Jack and Will ran to cut the ropes, and the ship was free.
"Oi, Commodore!" Kelsey yelled. The Commodore and all his lackeys looked over at the ship.
"Good-bye!" We all said, waving.
"Eat my bubbles!" I yelled when we were out of earshot. The Commodore looked majorly pissed off.
A few hours later…
Kelsey and I lounged around on the deck while Jack and Will did work. It was mostly because we weren't feeling well, but we didn't want to be even more of a burden to Jack and Will.
"Come on, you two wanted to come with, you should at least help out!" Jack yelled in annoyance.
"I don't know anything about commandeering a ship!" I said indignantly, standing up and feeling a bit dizzy.
"Neither does Will." Jack said, pointing his thumb at Will, who glared, "But at least he's helping!"
"Alright. We'll cook!" Kelsey said, looking eager to get out of the hot sun.
"That's not what I meant lass, but I am hungry. Go ahead and make us something." Jack said with a sigh. Kelsey and I got up, and went below deck to the galley.
"What should we make?" Kelsey asked, looking around at the barrels of fruit, biscuits and salted meat. The smells were none too pleasant.
"How about fruit salad? That requires no cooking and prevents scurvy!" I said.
Kelsey shrugged. "Alright." She replied. So, we proceeded to make the salad. After another couple of hours, Jack and Will came down to the galley.
"Hello!" I said as they sat down. They looked at the food in front of them.
"This is just cut-up pieces of fruit!" Jack said ungratefully.
"That would be the point." I said, folding my arms. Kelsey put a sad face.
"You don't like it?" she said sadly. Jack looked flustered.
"Er, uh, um…"
"And you know, fruit prevents scurvy." I said with a winning grin.
Will began to eat his fruit salad without complaint. In fact, he liked it! Jack did too, eating his portion in half the time. I didn't eat very much; it made me even more nauseous. By the green tint in Kelsey's face, I could tell she didn't feel well either.
Kelsey said weakly, "We're going to go up on deck."
"I need some fresh air." I said with a grimace. Slowly, we two made our way up the ladder onto the deck. I flopped down by the railing, just in case I was going to hurl. Kelsey did the same.
"I don't like water anymore." She whined.
"I don't like being seasick anymore." I whined too.
I heard Will coming out on deck and he knelt down beside me. He put his hand on my shoulder. "It's alright. I'm here." He murmured. If I was less nauseous, I would have appreciated this more. Then, I was totally unromantic. I hurled over the side. I came back on the ship, red-faced. Will barely managed to conceal a grin. He offered me some water, which I accepted gratefully.
"Thanks." I replied weakly, brushing hair out of my eyes.
Jack went over to Kelsey, grinning too. He said in a voice that completely said that he had no idea what he was doing, "Should I hold your hair… or something?" She tried to not roll her eyes. She knew he was trying. She was about to say something back, but then she also hurled over the side of the ship. He couldn't hold back his grin.
"What's so funny?" she asked, still nauseous.
"Nothing!" he said quickly. She giggled a bit.
"Are you feeling any better?" Will said after I drank my water.
"Just a little." I replied.
Will smiled. "That's good." Oh my god, did I feel like an idiot. I tried to think of something to make me sound less dumb.
"Um… so… this is nice weather we're having." I said, then realized how dumb and irrelevant that must have sounded. Will laughed, and I also started to laugh. I suddenly felt a lot better. Laughter really is the best medicine! Meanwhile, Kelsey was still hurling over the side. Jack looked like he didn't know what to do. After she was finished, he handed her some water since he had seen Will do the same.
"Here. This might make you feel better." He said as he offered her a cup. She drank some, and managed a weak smile at him.
"Thank you." She said.
He looked kind of embarrassed. "Well, this is sort of my fault, because I should have warned you about seasickness." He said sheepishly.
"Thanks a lot!" I yelled.
He sneered, "Although it is pretty funny, watching you two." He said with a little laugh. I was fuming, but Kelsey apparently thought that was funny, along with pretty much everything else he said.
Will turned to me. "Do you want to lie down?" he asked. I nodded. He pulled me up, and started to lead me toward the room with the hammocks.
Jack looked at us with a look of confusion. "Uh huh. Do you want, um, to lie down?" he asked Kelsey. She also nodded. He helped her up, too, and followed Will. They helped us lie down on the hammocks, after we both fell out several times.
"Tomorrow you're actually going to do something useful." Jack told us sternly, watching us swing to and fro in our hammocks.
"Cooking isn't useful?" Kelsey asked innocently.
"Dicing fruit is not my idea of being useful." He replied wryly.
"It was tasty, and you ate it with no complaints!" I said, in a scolding tone.
"While that is true, you're going to help young William and I-"
"I'm not that young! I'm 18!" Will protested.
Jack looked at him for a second. "Young." He said again. Kelsey giggled. I, on the other hand, was not amused, but I did not say anything for fear of risking Kelsey's nauseous wrath. Will kissed me goodnight on the forehead, and I almost fainted. Jack also kissed Kelsey goodnight, and she, too, almost fainted.
"See you in the morning." Will whispered. He smiled gently as he started making his way back up on deck
"We'll wake you at dawn!" Jack said with an obnoxious grin. Kelsey and I groaned. We said goodnight, and drifted off to sleep.
