-2,000 years later, modern day Japan-
She could hear someone calling out to her. "Lucy! Lucy!" they yelled.
The darkness that consumed her gave way to light, someone suddenly standing before her. Even though it was bright, she couldn't see his face, but she knew he was crying. She could hear the agony in his voice. "Who are you?" she asked, but he didn't seem to hear her. It was as if she was trying to speak underwater.
The boy still cried out. "Lucy, come back to me! Please!"
She could feel the wetness on her face; she was crying. The thought of him being sad for her made her heart ache. "I'm right here!" she called out to him as she reached out her hand.
Suddenly, the darkness was beginning to take her once more, the image of the boy beginning to fade. She still reached out toward him, hoping that she would somehow reach him. As she herself began to fade away, she heard him speak once more. "I will find you, no matter how long it takes," and with that, she was left in the darkness once more.
Jolting awake, Lucy panted fiercely, sweat dripping down her face. "I had that dream again," she sighed as she wiped her tears.
This dream was a common occurrence for her, each time seeming more real than the last. It was beginning to take its toll on her. Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. "Lucy, it's time to get up, you'll be late for school," the high pitched voice called.
"Mom, I'm up," Lucy groaned. She had never been a morning person. And with that, she began her day.
"Lucy!" and excited voice called out.
Just as Lucy was about to walk into the classroom she heard her best friend, Levy McGarden, call out to her. "Hey Levy, what's up?"
Levy rushed her into the room, and over to her desk. "Didn't you hear? There's a new exchange student! I heard he's supposed to be in our class!" She squealed with excitement.
"Don't let him hear you say this," Lucy smirked. "The new kid won't live to see tomorrow!"
Red in the face, Levy scowled. "Hey, I never said I liked him! It's him who walks around and acts like I belong to him!"
As the bell began to ring Lucy waved her hand. "Yeah, yeah, just go sit down."
By the time the bell had stopped their teacher, Mr. Dreyar, a short old man with white hair, and a very well groomed white mustache, was standing in front of everyone. "Alright everyone, settle down!" he commanded. "Starting today we will have a new student in the class. I ask that you please make him feel welcome." He turned toward the door. "You can come in now!"
As the door slid open, and the new student walked in, the room began to buzz. Everyone whispered to one another, already beginning to assess the new student, but there was one who was frozen in confusion.
Lucy froze in her chair, not knowing what to think. She watched as the boy introduced himself. "My name is Natsu Dragneel," he stated, his tone slightly nervous.
Her heart was racing a million miles an hour as her hands began to tremble. "It can't be," she thought frantically. "It's not possible!"
She hadn't thought anything of him until he spoke, his voice was too familiar to her. It was the same as the boy's in her dream, and as she studied him more, he seemed more and more familiar to her. Her heart ached at the sight of him, but she didn't know why. It scared her.
Lucy watched as his eyes scanned the room, and soon, they were locked on her. She watched his dark eyes as they looked her over, sadness overflowing in them. All too soon he looked away, and she was left with a million more questions floating through her head.
"Alright that's enough, we need to start class," Mr. Dreyar sighted. "Natsu, you can sit next to Levy," he pointed to the wide eyed blunette.
Levy gave a quick, excited glance back at Lucy as Natsu made his way to his seat. Even though she looked at him, wanting him to look her way, he never did. He seemed to be avoiding her gaze. With that, class began, Lucy stuck with only the sight of the pink hair on the back of his head. She was confused, confused as to why it hurt so much to look at him, and why he seemed so familiar to her. Lucy was lost.
AN: New chapter! Yay! I don't feel like this one's any good, but I tend to be too hard on myself. Anyway, please tell me what you think!
