Mondays suck. Everyone knows that, but the ones that feel it more are the teenagers at school, who after a weekend of fun have to wake up early and go to learn. Betty likes Mondays, because she enjoys school, however this Monday was different – better. That feeling potentially had something to do with Veronica Lodge, the new girl that Betty was falling in love with intrigued by. Regardless of the reason for the youngest Cooper's happiness, the other members of her family had much to say about the lift in her mood all of them having different ideas as to why she was so happy; except perhaps her father who was just trying to enjoy his coffee. "It's those boys isn't it" her mother says with distinct disdain towards Archie and Jughead in her tone. Chic assumed it was something darker, asking her what she did on her computer thinking she followed in his footsteps of being a cam-boy.
Unfortunately for Betty, Polly knew her better than the rest of them, making reference to a certain 'new someone' in her life, which sparked a red blush to colour her cheeks while she practically buried herself in her cereal. That comment and her reaction sparked a whole new conversation, that Betty managed to escape because Archie knocked on the front door to walk to school together, and in that moment, Betty thinks she could kiss the ginger teen for saving her from her family's onslaught of questions.
As the two made their walk to school, they spoke about anything and everything, just like they usually do; from what kind of tirade Cheryl will be on that day to how much food Jug will consume. Though the biggest question on both of their lips, how is Veronica Lodge going to take joining Riverdale High, and how is Riverdale High going to take Veronica. The issue the both of them had, was if the brunette girl would remain friends with them or be pulled in to Blossom's gaggle of minions. They continued discussing what they thought could happen until the entered school grounds, both surprised to see Jughead and Ronnie standing waiting for them. They turn to each other wondering how the brunette had managed to convince the black haired boy to not only stand amongst the other students outside but with only her no less, which in a way solidified how much the girl belonged to their group, because the only other people able to convince Jughead Jones to do something is the two watching as they approach with smiles.
As soon as the blonde and ginger reach the other half of their group, Betty is enveloped in a hug. Now something about Betty, she isn't used to physical contact, the perk of being friends with two boys for years, so when two small but strong arms wrap around her neck she immediately tenses with wide eyes before patting Veronica on the back awkwardly. In her mind – the part that isn't focused on the sweet smell of perfume – she registers the laughs of her two male friends, pulling away from the hug and pushing them grumbling under her breath. She halts at the confused and sad look on the other girls face, and feels a sudden need to explain her actions, so with a red face and guilty eyes she mumbles lowly "I'm not used to hugging, hair ruffles and being lifted are more their style" she points at the grinning boys "Sorry V."
Arms are once again around her neck but are gone almost as quickly as they appeared "No worries B, you'll get used to it soon" the brunette smiles sweetly at her before linking their arms "Boys come on. I don't want to be late on my first day" she demands as she practically drags Betty inside the building.
As they make their way through the school building, Betty very aware of all students eyes on her and Veronica, all of the residents of Riverdale having knowledge of Hiram Lodge and his potentially shady business deals that hasn't been confirmed. Veronica doesn't seem to notice the looks she is receiving, perhaps she is used to it or perhaps her attention is simply that stolen by the group of friends (blonde in particular) that she pays no mind to the rest of the student body around her until Betty's least favourite red head approaches them. A soft groan escapes Betty as they are stopped thanks to one Cheryl Blossom, as she attempts to accost them, however after registering the noise from her blonde companion, Veronica practically pushes past the red head and continues the journey she was on with determination and a smirk.
Though if she had noticed the look of complete awe on the faces of not only the students around her, she did not outwardly show, and if she had turned around to face the blonde girl rapidly falling with nothing to catch her, she would have noticed the awe and something unmistakable in her eyes, something that truly scared Betty Cooper because there was no turning back… her mother was going to murder her.
Sorry about the delay guys - been a hectic week.
Please review, I'd like to know what you all think.
Until next time
