Chapter 4 How do you mend...?
"Data?" Bella asked as she lay a-top his body
"Yes, darling" Data replied "What is the entrance exam like?" she said quietly. Data pulled her lips to his and she responded in kind. "It is easy and hard at the same time" he said as he twirled her curls between his fingers. "When I get back, can we get shared quarters?" Data froze and Bella stared at him "I'm sorry" she muttered and ran to the bathroom closing the door behind her. Data sat up, he was stunned then he heard her sobbing and opened the door. "Bella?" She hiccoughed as she looked at him. "It's my problem Data, when will I ever learn. I am so stupid." Data gathered her into his arms "I would be honoured to share our quarters. This is your home now. You are not stupid by any means. I was shocked that you would want to be with a man who cannot give you children."
She smiled "Look at us, arguing over the same thing that neither of us will ever achieve." Data put his finger to her lips "That is not strictly true. I was a father once, her name was Lal, she was an android." Bella stuttered "You built her, from your positronic brain, from your father's cybernetics journals." Data nodded as he pulled bella into his lap. "I believe that I have had a breakthrough in my studies. Lal will be reborn and she will be our daughter yours and mine."
Bella shrieked in delight as she kissed Data. "Oh hell, data, marry me, be my husband, be a father to our soon to be daughter. When can I meet her?" Data smiled in delight as he watched her flit to the drawers and pull on a sweater and Jeans. She turned and smiled the biggest smile he had ever seen. Her orange eyes glowed and she looked so full of life.
"Commander Data and Acting Ensign Swan, you are due on the bridge in two minutes."
"We will be there, captain" Data answered
"You had better be?" Picard answered briskly
"Was he always this 'stiff'?" Data nodded and took her hand leading her to the turbo-lift
"It is good to see you two, now ensign swan, I um... wanted to apologise for my attitude towards you, a few weeks ago I did not believe in vampires and our data-banks have no knowledge of the cold ones. We need to train you and teach you about our prime directive. The entrance exam is tomorrow and you have a full day ahead of you. We are giving Commander Data the day off. He is to prepare you for what is ahead of you tomorrow. You must work hard, study hard and pass."
Bella nodded stiffly. Data looked at her and whispered "At ease, soldier" she smiled widely again.
"I knew a soldier once" Bella and Data took the conn as they talked. "What was his name?" Data asked quietly. "Jasper Hale. He was the eldest of the four siblings in the cullen coven. I am led to believe that he was a major in the american civil war." Data gaped at her "He was sorry after he attacked me, as it turned out, edward was the real monster."
"Bella, We can find him when we are done with moving in" he whispered "He can come to terms and you can make your peace." Bella smiled gratefully at her raison d'etre. "Maybe"
"Ensign, set in a course to star-base 87, warp six" bella set in the command "Engage"
