Chapter: 4 Part 1

Emma was frustrated. Sexually, emotionally, physically. She was just frustrated. Between managing school work and a side job waitressing, she had had no time to visit home since she moved back to school. The month away from her family was hard, and it was even harder not seeing Regina. Emma felt ridiculous. She had only known the other woman for a month and she felt like she was going into withdrawals. Not only that, she hadn't heard a word from her. Not that Emma was used to women fawning over her (she was) it was just different. She had been so sure that Regina had felt the spark that she had. Especially after everything Emma told her about her personal life which she never told anyone.

"Of course Regina didn't know that." How could she? How could she understand that Emma had placed so many walls over her heart that for her to sleep over and feel safe meant the world?

Thankfully, news of Henry's apparent prowess at football had reached her and she had made an effort to make sure that she had this Friday off to watch him play, maybe even take a couple pictures. And going down to see Henry meant possibly seeing the hot art teacher next door. And she was trying not to obsess over it. And was absolutely failing.

During her push-ups at the gym: 'Maybe she's seeing someone else. Probably Jenn. That slut. She could never keep her hands to herself.''

Waitressing her tables: 'Maybe she thought I was weird. Maybe the orphan thing was too much. And of course I just haaad to lay it all out there after just meeting.'

Taking photos for her college: 'She probably isn't even that interested in me. She hasn't tried to call me. Or told Henry anything like, "Say hi to Emma for me!" Damn. Maybe the kid screwed something up in her class and now she hated Emma.'

By the time she reached the night before going home she was mentally exhausted and wanted to kick herself for being so damn paranoid. Jenn was her friend. Henry is a good kid who wouldn't cause any problems. And if Regina couldn't handle her being an orphan, well then that was that.

By the time morning rolled around, Emma was repeating the mantra, "I will be collected and cool." over and over in a hope to calm her nerves.

"Shake it off Emma. You are the woman. You are awesome. You are hella charming. And damn do you always look good." Emma told herself as she looked in the mirror. Grabbing her keys and jumping in her car, she peeled out of the parking lot, blasting music and trying not to think of what waited at the end of her drive.

{-}

It took a lot longer to get out of the house than Emma had planned. She never understood why Mary Margaret always cried when she got there and not when she left. But once she had peeled herself away, making lame excuses about going to see Henry and getting her camera ready for the game, she headed over to the school.

"How the hell is it 4:00 already?" Emma cursed as she pulled up. She probably wouldn't be able to see Henry until after the game. He was apparently very strict about when and what he did leading up to the game, claiming it gave him a better edge on his opponents. Emma had joked that if he kept it up, next he would claim it would give him superpowers. He didn't enjoy that comment. As she pulled into the parking lot, she glanced up at the top floor of west building, the art room. Bingo. A light on. Quickly sliding out of her car, she leaned over into her mirror and fluffed her hair, adjusting her sunglasses. As she stepped through the glass doors, she waved at Mindy, the secretary, and gestured to the art room with a smile.

"Good lord that is going to be a mess." Mindy said and then turned to text the other office workers her exciting new gossip about the aloof art teacher.

My dear people. I am sorry. I am aware of how long it has been. Too many painful things have happened, but I am back. I hope you all are still interested in the story. I apologize for the short chapter but I will make it up to you, I promise.
