The hashtag had led to a series of Instagram photos of Sheriff Dawson and his deputies pulling a newspaper reporter who'd written an article about a candidate for Sheriff who'd been rolled into a ditch out of the back of a squad car and beating him up which had been taken by the camera of a Bar patron's iPhone. Despite the fact that he ran the town and all illegal businesses in it, the Sheriff apparently hadn't learned anything from the Rodney King incident, and wasn't smart enough to remember not to beat people up in public when a few minutes drive could bring them to a place where there weren't any drunken witnesses with smartphones.
The image of the Sheriff himself whacking the newspaper reporter with a nightstick looked great on the front pages of several newspapers nationwide.
A twitter thread that used a similar hashtag was used at the Sheriff's trial.
