*Author's note: It will be explained later on in other parts of the story why Qoacutec is in jail.*
B'alam Agab had not seen his son for some time, until one day word came to him, saying, "Your son is in jail..."
Qoacutec lay sleeping on a thin woven reed mat with his back to the door of the tiny cell, and a filthy, ratty blanket thrown over his head to block out the sunlight. Flies buzzed, slaking their thirst on the sweat of his body. Two guards approached the cell, one of them banging and rattling the door.
"Ay!" Qoacutec cried out in pain, grabbing his head. The guards laughed.
"Get up now, pirix* (*bastard/asshole)!" the one guard said to him, opening the door of the cell. "Your father has come to collect you." When he heard that, Qoacutec tore the blanket off of his head and sat up with a start. And there was his father standing with his hands on his hips.
"Tat!" Qoacutec exclaimed in surprise.
"Son," B'alam Agab said to him by way of greeting.
"But, Tat, what are you doing here?" Qoacutec asked, standing up.
"I have come to collect you and take you home," B'alam Agab replied. "Now, come out of there and let us go." But to Qoacutec it felt as if his feet were frozen to the ground and he could not move.
"That you come out, I told you, or do I have to come and get you?" B'alam Agab asked him, and the guards began to snicker. Qoacutec pierced them with a look...
They took the road home in silence, Qoacutec walking behind his father. After what seemed like an eternity to Qoacutec, they finally came upon his father's fields and hut. B'alam Agab stopped beside the fields, but Qoacutec continued walking towards the hut.
"Eh! And where do you think you are going? "B'alam Agab asked him.
"I am going to go to sleep. I am very tired. I really could not sleep well there on that mat in that damn cell," Qoacutec said. B'alam Agab pointed towards the fields.
"To work!" He commanded his son.
"But Tat-" Qoacutec began, "I am sick and my head hurts a lot," he complained.
*Author's note: I had this entire part written, but due to a failure of my flash drive, I lost a large part of it. This is all I have left of it, and later I will have to go back and try to reconstruct the parts that were lost, unfortunately.*
