3rd POV

As Rusty struggled against Trash's overpowering stink, Boulder found himself in a not-so-great position while fighting the blue-gray she-cat. He was unable to get his claws on her for more than a moment, and never long enough to convince her to give up.

What's with this cat? He couldn't help but wonder, there's no way someone of her stature is this fast! He knew it was only a matter of time before she decided to sink her claws in his side, so he tried to remember every combat lesson Rusty had ever given him.

"Cats and dogs aren't as dissimilar as we like to think," Rusty had meowed. "It's rather easy to predict their movements by looking them in the eye. It's a dead giveaway for their next attack."

With strengthened resolve, Boulder leaped a fox-length away from the she-cat and stared directly into her eyes. He watched as they flicked toward his left forepaw, then his right shoulder. He darted under her as she leapt for her second target, raking his claws across her belly as she flew over him. The pain prevented her from landing properly, and she rolled about a tail-length away before righting herself.

"You should just sit this one out," Boulder meowed at her. "Bone and his lessers are a bit out of your league. Especially now that you're wounded like that."

"You shouldn't underestimate me, kittypet" she spat, narrowing her eyes irritably at him. "Just because you got a lucky hit in-"

"I don't doubt your ability," he meowed, cutting her lecture off before it began. "A little longer and you would've caught me. But I'm the least experienced fighter here, as far as I know."

Her widening eyes told Boulder that his bluff was working.

While it was true that he had the least experience, Boulder knew that the three elder forest cats that had attacked them could out-fight at least himself, Trash and Crunch. Rusty and Bone would give them trouble, so long as they weren't busy fighting one another. If Boulder could talk the she-cat and her friends into helping himself and Rusty, the battle might turn in their favor.

Rusty had finally pushed Trash off of him.

"Ugh, It's going to take three moons to get this stench out of my fur-" was all he had time to get out before she charged him. He jumped left and raked his claws along her right side as she rushed past him. As he turned to face her again, he saw something he never would have expected.

The first two forest cats that had attacked him and Boulder had gotten back up and tackled Trash. She was able to get them off before Rusty could join in, but quickly decided that she couldn't win now that he seemed to have help and rushed back toward Twoleg Place.

"Sorry, kitties," she meowed as she left, sending a wink in Rusty's direction that made his fur crawl. "I only play one on one."

Barely resisting the urge to vomit, the ginger tom swung his head around looking for Bone, Crunch or the other forest cats. He saw Boulder, the blue-gray she-cat , and a white tom he hadn't noticed before, convincing Crunch to leave. Deciding he didn't need to intervene, Rusty looked until he found Bone and the lion-like tom from before still grappling each other. The latter tom was, again, struggling to get a blow in on Bone. Rusty heard a gasp as the young gray tom saw them, too.

"Lionheart!" The tom shouted as he rushed forward to help his friend. Rusty and the sand-colored she-cat weren't too far behind him and caught up easily. He kept pace with the two until they all slammed into Bone's right side, knocking the black and white tom over and dazing him a bit. Bone recovered quickly, but not before Rusty and the forest cats gave him a few scratches.

The three younger cats were pushed away as Bone stood. The sand-colored she-cat jumped at him, but he dodged to his left and drew his claws along her right side. The dog teeth attached to those claws also cut deep into her and she landed poorly, rolling to a stop at the base of a tree.

Rusty's attention was drawn from the scene by Bone leaping at him.

Unprepared, Rusty barely managed to duck as the teeth on Bone's claws cut into his collar, and he released a pained yowl as they bit into his left shoulder. Rusty stumbled around to face Bone on his good legs, diving to avoid the elder tom's next pass.

He couldn't feel his left foreleg anymore.

Hey, guys! Long time no chapter, huh? Well don't worry because the next one's coming soon!
